Warren Buffett Ditches Bitcoin-Linked Nu Holdings, Adds To Constellation Brands, Domino's Pizza, Pool Corp Stakes

Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) is on an upswing, now trading at approximately $2665.70, following a gain of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/how-to-buy-ethereum">over 44% in the past seven days</a>, according to CoinMarketCap. A sharp 8.42% surge in the last 24 hours further points to the strong bullish momentum towards the $3000 milestone fuelled by institutional buy-ins and network updates.
The rally has propelled Ethereum's market capitalization to around $322.23 billion, placing it ahead of global giants such as Alibaba Group Holding Ltd &#8211; ADR (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BABA#NYSE">BABA</a>), valued at $303.72 billion, and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KO#NYSE">KO</a>), at $297.17 billion.

While Ethereum's surge is a part of a broader crypto market upswing, a major driver in this positive momentum is renewed institutional interest, notably from a massive investment by a London-based asset management firm, Abraxas Capital. According to on-chain data posted by Lookonchain, the company purchased nearly $500 million worth of Ethereum as of Tuesday.
Further, in the past 12 hours, Abraxas Capital bought another 33,482 ETH, marking its total purchases at 211,030 ETH. Lookonchain also highlighted an additional $240 million borrowing by Abraxas Capital from Aave, fuelling speculation on fresh ETH investment.
This accumulation is seen as a strong vote of confidence for investors in Ethereum's long-term potential, especially when combined with last week's Pectra upgrade.&nbsp;
While institutional buying has surged, from a technical standpoint there are signs of a cooling bullish trend. The Directional Movement Index (DMI) indicator suggests a drop in its Average Directional Index (ADI), which measures the intensity of a trend.
A weakening bullish trend is being observed as the ADX fell from 61 to 47.99. Additionally, the +DI line has dropped from 47.96 to 27.2, indicating a fall in bullish sentiment. Meanwhile, bearish pressure is on the rise, with the -DI line rising from 3.39 to 13.97.
As the gap between the +DI and -DI lines is narrowing, analysts expect a short-term pullback in Ethereum's price.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) also reflects a moderate bullish momentum, as Ethereum's RSI dropped from an overbought high of 83 to 63. This dip signals a retreat from the overbought zone while maintaining an underlying bullish trend.
Interestingly, renewed buying interest is being observed as RSI bounced from 54 a few hours ago, and +DI went up and -DI went down.
Adding to the positive sentiment, a surge has also been noted in the trading volume, with a rise of 24.66% over the past 24 hours, and a 7.54% rise in its market cap. Ethereum's Exponential Moving Average (EMA) lines continue to show an uptrend, confirming the ongoing bullish pattern.
On the charts, ETH is consolidating within the range of $2425 and $2705. It is now testing key resistance levels, with analysts pointing to $2730 as a barrier, a breakout above which could open the path to the $3000 mark, and continued upward momentum.
Conversely, Ethereum needs to hold the $2320 support level to avoid price retracement to $1938, and possibly further down to $1736 due to intensified bearish momentum.
Despite some short-term resistance, the broader outlook for Ethereum remains optimistic. The combination of institutional investment, technological upgrades, and favourable macroeconomic conditions suggests a growing confidence in Ethereum hitting a key $3000 milestone.&nbsp;

According to the recent data shared by Creative Planning, Inc., the &#8216;Oracle of Omaha,&#8217; Warren Buffett earned 98% of his current net worth after turning 65 years old.
What Happened: The 94-year-old veteran investor Buffett has a net worth of $160 billion according to Bloomberg&#8217;s Billionaire Index.
Peter Mallouk, the president and CEO of Creative Planning, shared data showcasing that the ace investor&#8217;s net worth stood at $3 billion nearly 34 years ago, when he was just 65.
His wealth has compounded by nearly 5,233% since then to $160 billion as of May 14. This shows that he earned 98% of his wealth after the age of 65.
Mallouk also quoted Buffett, highlighting that the growth in his wealth was possible through the power of compounding.
&#8220;My life has been a product of compound interest,&#8221; Buffett once said.

Monster Beverage Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MNST#NASDAQ">MNST</a>) is bracing for tighter margins in the second quarter as rising aluminum costs and tariff-related premiums begin to squeeze its bottom line.
What Happened: During the company&#8217;s first quarter earnings call on Thursday, Vice Chairman and Co-CEO, Hilton Schlosberg, said that Monster&#8217;s layered hedging strategy may not be able to contain certain costs, particularly the rise in aluminum prices stemming from the tariffs.
&#8220;We use a ladder approach for hedging, and it's very difficult and somewhat expensive to hedge the Midwest premium,&#8221; he said, referring to the regional surcharge applied to aluminum deliveries in the U.S. Midwest.

Nancy Pelosi&#8216;s investments over 11 years have outperformed the &#8216;Oracle of Omaha&#8217;, Warren Buffett&#8216;s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. What Happened: According to the data <a href="https://www.quiverquant.com/congresstrading/politician/Nancy%20Pelosi-P000197">from</a> Quiver Quantitative, Pelosi&#8217;s investments have fetched her gains of 692.75% since May 16, 2014.

Legendary investor Warren Buffett announced he is stepping down as the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>) (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>) at the end of 2025, ending a run of leading the conglomerate that has often <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/education/25/01/42832123/warren-buffett-beats-sp-500-in-2024-how-oracle-of-omahas-returns-compare-over-past-20-years">outperformed the S&amp;P 500.</a>
Here's a look at how Buffett got started with Berkshire Hathaway and how much investing alongside him could have been worth.
What Happened: Buffett is one of the greatest investors of the current generation. He is known for his buy-and-hold approach to investing and has used that approach in his life, living in the same house<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/09/41095962/billionaire-warren-buffett-still-lives-in-an-old-corner-house-he-purchased-for-32k-i-couldnt-imagine" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> for the past 65 years.</a>
Before his buy-and-hold approach, which is still used today, Buffett was interested in purchasing low-priced stocks in the 1960s, including well-run companies trading at low prices.
"If (the stocks) were cheap enough, he didn't care it was a lousy company and lousy management. He knew he was going to make money anyways because of the cheapness," Berkshire Vice Chairman&nbsp;Charlie Munger&nbsp;said in the "Becoming Warren Buffett Documentary," CNBC&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/12/buffett-bought-berkshire-hathaway-shares-for-7-dollars-and-50-cents-each.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported</a>.
Buffett&nbsp;<a href="https://www.berkshirehathaway.com/SpecialLetters/WEB%20past%20present%20future%202014.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">bought&nbsp;</a>his first shares of textile company Berkshire Hathaway in December 1962 for $7.50 each.
"I bought the first shares of Berkshire in 1962 and it was a northern textile business destined to become extinct eventually," Buffett said. "It was a statistically cheap stock and a terrible business."
Buffett saw an opportunity at a low price.
"Berkshire Hathaway was closing mills, and as they close mills, it would free up some capital, and then they would re-purchase shares. So I bought some stock with the idea that there would be another tender offer at some point, and we would sell the stock at a modest profit," he said.
Buffett was right, as he <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/education/24/08/40652464/warren-buffett-celebrates-94th-birthday-with-1-trillion-market-cap-milestone-a-look-back-at-hig" target="_blank" rel="noopener">received an offer </a>from Berkshire Hathaway to buy his 7% stake in the company. When asked at what price he would sell the holdings, Buffett told Berkshire head Seabury Stanton the price would be $11.50. Stanton agreed but later sent a letter with an offer for $11.375.
The Oracle of Omaha was taken aback by the letter and offer, which led him to refuse to tender his shares.
"That was a monumentally stupid decision," Buffett said of this move.
"That made me very mad, so I just started buying more stock. I just felt that I had been double-crossed by the management."
Buffett began buying more shares and eventually took control of Berkshire Hathaway. Seabury was let go from the company.
The textile business proved okay for Buffett for a couple of years before shutting down in 1985 and becoming what Buffett has called one of his worst investments of all time.
Over the years, Berkshire Hathaway became more than just a textile business, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/22/03/26224759/warren-buffett-owns-what-10-berkshire-acquisitions-you-may-have-forgotten" target="_blank" rel="noopener">buying up companies </a>such as Geico, See's Candies, Fruit of the Loom, Dairy Queen, and others.

Berkshire Hathaway Performance: Shares of Berkshire Hathaway hit new all-time highs on Friday ahead of the annual shareholders meeting, where Buffett surprised the crowd with his stepping down announcement.
On Monday, Berkshire Hathaway stock fell over 5% as investors grasped what the company could look like without Buffett and with the company reporting lower operating profit year-over-year.
Year-to-date, Berkshire Hathaway stock is up 13.2%, outperforming the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>), which is down 3.4%. Berkshire Hathaway has also outperformed the S&amp;P 500 ETF over the one-year and five-year periods.

With a changing of CEO, there is a chance that the top 10 holdings in the Berkshire Hathaway stock portfolio look significantly different at this time next year. Although, many of these stocks have been outperforming the market and helping Berkshire Hathaway produce strong returns annually.

3 Stocks Warren Buffett First Bought 24 Years Ago (Hint: Apple's Not One Of Them)'

In a recent interview, United States Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins signaled a new wave of regulatory scrutiny headed for America&#8217;s largest food, beverage, and retail brands.
What Happened: Speaking on the All-in Podcast on Sunday, Secretary Rollins discussed the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), highlighting its $123 billion annual cost.
She noted that SNAP accounts for 70% of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's budget and roughly 2% of the entire federal budget.
Rollins further adds that roughly 10% of this budget, or $15 billion a year, is spent on soda, with 75% of the population on SNAP being clinically obese. &#8220;Taxpayer dollars be[ing] spent on sugary drinks and junk food that&#8217;s making our kids sick? Absolutely not,&#8221; she says.

She blames this squarely on the lobbyists, saying that &#8220;the amount of money that is at stake is reflected in the amount of lobbyists that are out and about,&#8221; but adds that the program will not be eliminated, and will instead be realigned to &#8220;make America healthy again.&#8221;
Why It Matters: SNAP benefits have been in focus ever since the new administration took over, with <a href="https://benzinga.com/news/25/02/43901558/snap-benefits-in-focus-trump-admin-targets-bidens-food-assistance-policies">plenty of pushback</a> against potential cuts, coming from the likes of Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), who called it &#8220;slashing benefits for working-class Americans to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-rich.&#8221; 
Several leading food, beverage, and retail brands too face a top-line hit if these changes come into effect, with a substantial portion of their revenues coming from purchases made using SNAP.
According to analyst Alexia Howard from Bernstein, a wide-scale cut to SNAP could hit General Mills Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GIS#NYSE">GIS</a>) the hardest, given its cereal line-up.
Besides this, there are beverage stocks such as Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KO#NYSE">KO</a>), PepsiCo Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PEP#NASDAQ">PEP</a>), and Monster Beverage Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MNST#NASDAQ">MNST</a>), which are likely to be hit hard, according to a Citi Research note.
Among retailers, dollar stores such as Dollar General Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DG#NYSE">DG</a>) and Dollar Tree Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DLTR#NASDAQ">DLTR</a>) are the most likely to be impacted by cuts to the SNAP program, according to Bernstein analyst Zhihan Ma. &#8220;If you're a dollar store, your full value proposition is predicated on servicing the lower-income consumers,&#8221; Ma said, in a report <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/16/proposed-snap-cuts-pressure-low-income-shoppers-retailers.html">by</a> CNBC.

SNAP Spending Shift Could Hit General Mills, PepsiCo Hard, Warns Analyst

What began quietly years ago has grown into a defining long-term play for Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>) (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>), as the company signals no intention of slowing down or reassessing its $20 billion bet on Japanese trading companies, amid a changing macro climate. 
What Happened: On Saturday, during Berkshire&#8217;s annual shareholder meeting, Warren Buffett addressed a question from the audience regarding the company's investments in Japan and his outlook on the same in light of a potential interest rate hike by the Bank of Japan.
Buffett said he was unfazed by the macro backdrop, stating, &#8220;I'll let the people of Japan determine their best course of action in terms of economics.&#8221;

Buffett noted that when he first acquired stakes in these trading houses six years ago, they were &#8220;selling at ridiculously low prices.&#8221; His conviction deepened over time, he added, as he got to know the companies and their leadership teams better.
&#8220;Japan's record has been extraordinary,&#8221; he said, pointing to the strong presence of several major American companies in the region, including several Berkshire holdings like Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>), Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KO#NYSE">KO</a>), and American Express Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AXP#NYSE">AXP</a>).
Buffett added that &#8220;in the next 50 years, we won't give a thought to selling those [Japanese trading houses] positions,&#8221; underscoring not only his own long-term conviction but also that of Berkshire Vice Chairman, and his newly appointed successor, Greg Abel.
Abel followed up by saying, &#8220;It's been a very good investment, but we really envision holding the investment for 50 years or forever,&#8221; adding that he hopes to &#8220;do big things with them globally.&#8221;
Why It Matters: Early last month, Berkshire was preparing another round of yen-denominated bond issuance, reportedly aimed at <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/25/04/44601574/warren-doubles-down-on-japan-another-yen-bond-blitz-amid-growing-us-market-volatility">refinancing maturing debt</a> and increasing its stakes in its Japanese plays.
Former Vice Chairman Charlie Munger had described the investment as a &#8220;no-brainer,&#8221; pointing to Japan's <a href="https://benzinga.com/25/02/43441032/charlie-munger-praised-buffetts-20b-no-brainer-investment-in-japan-like-having-god-just-opening-a-chest-and-pouring-money-into-it">ultra-low borrowing rates</a>, around 0.50%, and the attractive dividend yields of over 5% offered by the trading houses. 
The company reported its first-quarter results on Saturday, with operating earnings falling 14% year-over-year to $9.6 billion. The decline was primarily due to a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/05/45183890/berkshire-hathaways-q1-2025-earnings-plunge-amid-tariff-concerns-operating-profit-fell-14-cash-hit-a-record">$1.1 billion hit</a> to underwriting profits from wildfires in Southern California during the quarter.

The Berkshire Hathaway portfolio includes positions in many stocks and one of the top performers year-to-date and over the last several years is Chinese automaker BYD Company ADR (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BYDDY#OTC">BYDDY</a>).
The stock is up 49.1% year-to-date, up 69.3% over the last year and up 733.9% over the past five years. Along with beating Apple year-to-date, the five-year returns of the electric vehicle company also outpace Apple.
Buffett currently <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/berkshire-hathaway-portfolio/">owns </a>over 54 million shares of BYD valued at $2.7 billion. The stock represents around 1% of the Berkshire Hathaway portfolio with the conglomerate owning over 4% of the automaker.
While Buffett has <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/06/39481191/warren-buffets-berkshire-drops-byd-stake-despite-ev-leader-seeing-record-sales">trimmed the position</a> in BYD in recent years, he remains a key shareholder and the stock's gains are helping Berkshire Hathaway and the wealth of Buffett.
Berkshire Hathaway stock is up 19.3% year-to-date, outpacing the -3.0% performance of the SPY. Berkshire Hathaway has also outperformed the SPY on a one-year and five-year basis.
Buffett is now the sixth richest person in the world with a wealth of $166 billion, according to <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/billionaires/?sref=TBDibEcD">Bloomberg</a>. Buffett has gained $23.6 billion in wealth and is the top gainer year-to-date among the world's billionaires.
Only three of the top 10 richest people in the world have added to their wealth in 2025, with six of the top 10 each losing $20 billion or more to their wealth totals.

The growth may not be done for BYD as the company continues to expand in Europe and parts of Asia and is among the world's leaders in electric vehicle sales.
In March, BYD <a href="https://cnevpost.com/2025/04/10/automakers-share-of-china-nev-market-mar-2025/">was </a>number one in new electric vehicles sales in China, with 29.3% market share, outpacing Geely (11.2%) and Tesla (7.5%). In the first quarter of 2025, BYD had 28.8% market share for new electric vehicle sales in China.
A<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/45097773/satellite-images-put-tesla-rival-byds-hungarian-factory-capable-of-producing-200k-units-annually-in-the-spotlight"> new production facility</a> in Hungary is expected to produce 200,000 units a year and help BYD's expansion in Europe. The company is also considering another factory in the region, according to reports.
BYD sold 37,000 units in Europe in the first quarter of 2025, up from 8,500 units in the previous year.
In Japan and Australia, BYD is launching <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/management/25/01/42901570/warren-buffett-backed-byd-launches-australias-first-ev-under-30k-how-the-move-could-strengthen-fight-against-elon-musks-tesla">more affordable models</a> that could help expand its market share.

Warren Buffett's Compounders Crush Cathie Wood's Disruptors Over The Long Haul

Investors are turning to dividend stocks to guard their portfolios against market volatility amid trade wars and recession risks. Data from <a href="https://www.spglobal.com/spdji/en/documents/research/research-sp500-dividend-aristocrats.pdf">S&amp;P Global </a>shows that from Dec. 29, 1989, through the end of February, the S&amp;P 500 Dividend Aristocrats outperformed the S&amp;P 500 in 66.67% of the months when the broader index posted a loss.
A few days ago, a dividend investor <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/dividends/comments/1jxqcdg/finally_reached_1m_4km_income_update_on_the_story/">shared</a> his income report and investing journey on r/Dividends, a Reddit community with over 700,000 followers. The portfolio screenshots shared by the investor on the social platform showed his monthly dividend income was roughly $3,960. The investor, around 40, said he started investing at the age of 20.

&nbsp;"At the time I never took it seriously and just putting in like 20-50$ a month," he said. "I ‘seriously' started at around 23-24 when I was putting in approx, 300$ on average (that was a huge for me back then), and now averaging at around 2-2.5k per month."
The investor said while it's difficult to see his portfolio suffering declines amid the current market environment, he's playing the "long game" and believes stocks will eventually go in a positive territory.&nbsp;
The investor said he's never been a "big spender" and has expenses of about €700 a month. He lives in Europe where cost of living is not "that high," he wrote.
"Other than that we have two old cars (20 and 15 years) &#8211; included in above expenses. We don't wear fancy clothes or spend money on impressing others (this can cost you a fortune)," he added.&nbsp;

Cues From Last Session:
Wednesday was a mixed bag for S&amp;P 500 sectors, with healthcare, industrials, and consumer staples posting good gains, while the energy segment dropped 2.70% on dropping crude oil prices and growing concerns of a recession following the latest GDP figures.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.35% during the day, while the Nasdaq Composite Index was down marginally, by 0.086%.
The markets were rattled by disappointing economic data during the session, particularly the GDP figures at -0.3%, down from 2.4% last year, and against a consensus estimate of 0.4%. Besides this, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index came in at 2.3%, ahead of estimates at 2.2%, thwarting any possibility of a rate cut in May.
As of Tuesday, the Nasdaq 100 index was down 11.93% from its previous high of 22,222.61 points. The S&amp;P 500 index was 9.40% lower, as compared to the last record high of 6,147.43 points. On the other hand, Dow Jones was down 9.77% from its 52-week high of 45,073.63 points.
The Dow Jones index jumped 141 points or 0.35% to 40,669.36, whereas the S&amp;P 500 index surged 0.15% to 5,569.06. Nasdaq Composite ended 0.086% lower at 17,446.34, and the small-cap gauge, Russell 2000, was down 0.63%, trading at 1,964.12.

Gold Spot US Dollar is down yet again, by 2.56%, hovering around 3,223.74 per ounce, down from its record high of $3,500.33 per ounce last week. The U.S. Dollar Index is up 0.39%, trading at the 99.8543 level.
Asian markets are mixed on Thursday, with Japan&#8217;s Nikkei, India&#8217;s Nifty 50, and the Hang Seng Index ending the day in the green, while South Korea&#8217;s KOSPI and China&#8217;s Shanghai index are down for the day. Australia&#8217;s ASX 200 is up, along with New Zealand&#8217;s NZX 50.
