U.S. stock futures gained on Monday, continuing the momentum from Friday's rally. Futures of major benchmark indices were in the green in premarket trading, pointing to rising bullish sentiments among investors.
The markets will look towards the Trump administration's actions closely this week – reports suggest that the government could limit the scope of the planned tariffs.
While the Trump administration is still expected to launch reciprocal tariffs against major trading partners of the U.S., critical industries like automobile and semiconductors are no longer expected to be hit by tariffs, for the time being, according <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-03-22/trump-plans-his-tariff-liberation-day-with-more-targeted-push">to</a> a Bloomberg report.

The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF, which track the S&amp;P 500 index and Nasdaq 100 index, respectively, gained in premarket on Monday. The SPY was up 1.06% to $569.98, while the QQQ gained 1.29% to $486.32, according to<a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard"> Benzinga Pro</a> data.

U.S. stocks settled higher on Friday, with the S&amp;P 500 recording slight gains during the session. The broad-market S&amp;P 500 also reported gains last week after recording losses for four straight weeks. The Nasdaq gained 0.2%, while the Dow added 1.2% during the week.
FedEx Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FDX#NYSE">FDX</a>) shares dipped more than 6% on Friday after the company's third-quarter adjusted EPS results missed analysts&#8217; expectations.
Shares of Nike Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NKE#NYSE">NKE</a>) fell more than 5% on Friday after the company reported third-quarter financial results.
Most sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a negative note, with materials, real estate, and utilities stocks recording losses on Friday.
However, communication services and consumer discretionary stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session higher.

Insights From Analysts:
Analysts sought to brush aside concerns of a bear market, stating that it's not as much of a concern and that it is likely a rotational behavior.
"Statistically, this type of action is extreme and typically comes at the end of a bear market in a waterfall sell-off and not right after an all-time high. A simple reflexive rebound to the 20-day moving average would wipe out half the decline," said Ivan Martchev, investment strategist at Navellier &amp; Associates.
Martchev pointed to a drastic decline in VIX, also known as the fear gauge index, which fell nearly 10% and 11.72% in two sessions last week.
He added that the chances of the S&amp;P 500 making an all-time high in the second quarter this year are "better than ever," but this is contingent on President Donald Trump registering a few trade war wins.
Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at Carson Group, brushed aside bearish concerns, too.
He pointed to the sharp 34% decline in the S&amp;P 500 five years ago on this day due to the COVID-19-related shutdowns.
"The S&amp;P 500 was up nearly 200% (total return) earlier this year off those lows. Remember that the next time you hear some scary headlines," he said.

S&P 500 Ends 4-Week Losing Streak: Investor Fear Eases Slightly, But Greed Index Remains In 'Extreme Fear' Zone

Wall Street is buzzing with increasing speculation about a recession, as economists identify several indicators suggesting an <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44448437/benzinga-bulls-and-bears-tesla-nvidia-fedex-and-the-market-digests-the-feds-rate-decision">impending economic downturn</a>.
What Happened: According to a report, Goldman Sachs&nbsp;has raised its likelihood of a recession in&nbsp;the next 12 months from&nbsp;15% to 20%. A March survey by&nbsp;Bank of America&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BAC#NYSE">BAC</a>) showed that 55% of fund managers perceive&nbsp;a global recession triggered by&nbsp;a trade war as the&nbsp;primary&nbsp;tail risk for the market.
Consumer expectations of a recession in the upcoming year have also risen to a nine-month peak, according to the latest Consumer Confidence Survey by the Conference Board, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/recession-2025-warning-economy-outlook-growth-slowdown-debt-stocks-rates-2025-3">reports</a> Insider.
Economist David Rosenberg foresees a downturn in the next few months, highlighting several warning signs of a faltering economy.
Rosenberg points out several alarming signs including US households battling to keep up with inflation, an increased debt load, struggling small- and mid-cap stocks, and declining corporate earnings guidance. 
Rosenberg stated, &#8220;If the past is prescient, the recession which nobody believes will rear its ugly head will materialize as early as July.&#8221;

Households are increasingly unable to handle emergency expenses, with&nbsp;the latest Survey of Consumer&nbsp;Expectations from the New York&nbsp;Fed indicating that only 63% of US households could manage a sudden $2,000 bill. 
This is the lowest percentage since Q4 2015, as per an analysis by&nbsp;Apollo Global Management&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/APO#NYSE">APO</a>). Moreover, total household debt increased by $93 billion in Q4, hitting a record $18 trillion. 
Small- and mid-cap stocks are also struggling, with the iShares S&amp;P Small-cap 600 Value ETF down 16% from its November peak and the S&amp;P MidCap 400 down 13% from its November high.
Companies like&nbsp;Walmart&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WMT#NYSE">WMT</a>),&nbsp;Target&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TGT#NYSE">TGT</a>), and&nbsp;FedEx&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FDX#NYSE">FDX</a>) have reduced their guidance for the year, with approximately 70% of companies attributing potential negative outlooks this year to&nbsp;uncertainty around new policies and&nbsp;tariffs.
Finally, bond investors are factoring in a higher risk of companies defaulting&nbsp;in the coming years. Credit&nbsp;spreads have significantly increased in the past month, indicating investors&#8217; anticipation of a higher risk of corporate borrowers struggling to repay debt.

The U.S. dollar reversed course to notch weekly gains after two consecutive weeks of losses. Among mega-cap stocks, Boeing Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>) and Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) led the way, climbing 4.9% and 4.2%, respectively.
Boeing, up 11% for the week, is on track for its strongest weekly performance since July 2023 after securing a multibillion-dollar contract to design and build a next-generation fighter jet for the U.S. Air Force—beating out rival Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LMT#NYSE">LMT</a>), which fell 6%.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) dipped 0.4% to below $84,000 but is still holding onto weekly gains.

Wall Street Trims Losses As Boeing Eyes Best Week In Nearly 2 Years: What's Driving Markets Friday?

FedEx Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FDX#NYSE">FDX</a>) shares are trading lower Friday after the company&#8217;s third-quarter adjusted EPS results missed analysts' <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/earnings-misses/25/03/44438822/fedex-posts-2q-miss-with-continued-cost-inflation-heres-what-to-watch-next">expectations on Thursday.</a>
What To Know: FedEx reported quarterly earnings of $4.51 per share, falling short of the consensus estimate of $4.54. However, revenue for the quarter came in at $22.2 billion, surpassing expectations of $21.89 billion and marking an increase from the $21.7 billion reported in the same quarter last year.
CEO Raj Subramaniam acknowledged the challenging operating environment, citing a compressed peak season and severe weather disruptions. Despite these headwinds, he highlighted the company's efforts in improving profitability and transforming operations. Looking ahead, FedEx remains focused on navigating shifting macroeconomic conditions and supporting customers.
The company revised its fiscal 2025 revenue outlook, now expecting revenue to be flat to slightly down year-over-year. This is a downgrade from its prior forecast of approximately flat revenue. FedEx also stated that it is unable to provide an earnings per share or tax rate outlook for fiscal 2025 due to uncertainties related to mark-to-market retirement plan accounting adjustments.

JP Morgan analyst Brian Ossenbeck maintains FedEx (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FDX#NYSE">FDX</a>) with a Overweight and lowers the price target from $323 to $280.

UBS Maintains Buy on FedEx, Lowers Price Target to $331

Shares of FedEx Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FDX#NYSE">FDX</a>) tanked in early trading Friday after the company reported <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/03/44425552/fedex-shares-fall-after-q3-earnings-miss-lower-fy25-revenue-forecast">downbeat fiscal third-quarter results</a>.

Stifel On FedEx
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/5af2e4afca26bd0001e8b287/j.-bruce%20chan">Analyst Bruce Chan</a> maintained a Buy rating, reducing the price target from $364 to $354.
FedEx reported adjusted earnings of $4.51 per share, missing consensus of $4.56 per share, despite a share buyback tailwind of 12 cents per share, Chan said in a note. "Total revenues were higher than we&#8217;d anticipated, with notable upside in legacy Ground volumes," he added.
Chan stated that yields were softer than expected due to a mixed shift towards Economy products. "Management took fiscal year-end guidance down by 6% at the midpoint due to yield pressure, soft industrial, macro uncertainty, and residual inflationary cost pressure, particularly on wages and purchased transportation." 
Stephens On FedEx
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/5805f8a2846faa000106ab15/james-schneider">Analyst Daniel Imbro</a> reiterated an Overweight rating, cutting the price target from $320 to $300.
FedEx reduced its fiscal 2025 adjusted earnings guidance to $18.00-$18.60 per share due to softer revenues and continued cost inflation, Imbro said. On the positive side, the company achieved around $600 million in DRIVE savings in the fiscal third quarter and remains on track to reaching its $2.2 billion target this year, he added.
Apart from DRIVE savings, Network 2.0 should also support the company's EBIT in fiscal 2026, the analyst stated. "The LTL spin remains on track, and we expect a CEO announcement for the spin-co to be the next watch item for investors."

Goldman Sachs On FedEx
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/5e8b4e0e1e7bd60001d9d07b/jordan-alliger">Analyst Jordan Alliger</a> reaffirmed a Buy rating and price target of $314.
Although FedEx reported quarterly earnings of $4.51 per share, the figure falls to $4.32 per share when stripping off the 19 cents per share tax benefit, Alliger said "The shortfall versus our numbers was at Freight, as well as somewhat higher interest expense/lower Other income." 
On the positive side, FedEx Express recorded higher-than-expected EBIT, with some sequential margin expansion, exhibiting "counter-seasonal improvement," the analyst stated. "The underlying business fundamentals particularly around B2B/industrial volumes remains generally soft," Allinger wrote.
Oppenheimer On FedEx
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/59f2359befacff0001706997/scott-schneeberger">Analyst Scott Schneeberger</a> maintained a Perform rating on the stock.
The Express segment, which now includes Ground, generated revenue and adjusted operating income growth of 2.7% and 16.9% year-on-year, respectively, Schneeberger said. Growth was driven by "DRIVE expense reductions/higher base yield/increased US and international export volume, partly offset by higher wage and PT rates/expiration of the USPS contract," he added.
Schneeberger stated that the mid-point of management's earnings estimate, at $18.30 per share, missed consensus of $18.94 per share. "FedEx now anticipates flat to slightly down y/y FY25 revenue growth vs. ~flat y/y a quarter ago."
FDX Price Action: At the time of publication on Friday, shares of FedEx had declined by 9.01% to $224.01.
