What To Know: The latest <a href="https://www.fitchratings.com/structured-finance/abs/auto-indices">report from</a> Fitch Ratings showed a growing number of people are unable to keep up with their car loan payments with 6.6% of subprime auto borrowers more than 60 days behind, marking the highest level since the data began being tracked in 1994. 
Additionally, a recent report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York revealed <a href="https://www.newyorkfed.org/newsevents/news/research/2025/20250213">the number</a> of auto loans moving into serious delinquency — defined as being 90 days or more past due — increased to 3%, marking the highest level since 2010.

Another indicator is the Consumer Confidence Board Consumer Confidence Index <a href="https://www.conference-board.org/topics/consumer-confidence">which fell</a> sharply by seven points in February, indicating pessimism about current and future economic conditions. 
"In February, consumer confidence registered the largest monthly decline since August 2021," said Stephanie Guichard, senior economist, Global Indicators at The Conference Board.

American households are running out of emergency funds which could be contributing to the bleaker financial outlooks. Data from the Federal Reserve shows that households' ability to come up with $2,000 for an emergency expense within the next month is at the lowest level since the survey started in 2015.
"Taking into account that the CPI level today is 35% higher than in 2015, the situation is even worse," said Dr. Torsten Slok, chief economist for Apollo Global Management.&nbsp;
What Else: Retailers are reporting demand is slowing, with Kohl's Corp. Are US Consumers Starting To Crack? Pessimism, Loan Defaults, Bargain-Hunting Rise

Five Below (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FIVE#NASDAQ">FIVE</a>) could highlight strong 2024 holiday sales and the impact of potential tariffs when the discount retailer reports fourth-quarter financial results after <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings">market close Wednesday.</a>
Here's a look at the earnings estimates, analyst commentary and key items for investors to watch.
Earnings Estimates: Analysts expect Nvidia to report fourth-quarter revenue of $1.39 billion. That&#8217;s up from $1.34 billion in last year's fourth quarter according to data<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/?utm_source=BZprocontent&amp;t=be2bearmibe3na1"> from Benzinga Pro.</a>
The company has beaten analyst estimates for revenue in two straight quarters and six of the last 10 quarters overall.
Analysts expect Nvidia to report fourth-quarter earnings per share of $3.38, down from $3.65 in last year's fourth quarter. The company beat analyst estimates in the third quarter, while beating estimates in five of the last 10 quarters overall.
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/management/24/12/42327598/five-below-stock-climbs-after-better-than-expected-q3-results-strong-fy24-guidance-new-ceo">Company guidance</a> calls for Q4 revenue in a range of $1.35 billion to $1.38 billion and earnings per share in a range of $3.15 to $3.33.
What Analysts Are Saying: Ahead of the report, Telsey analyst Joseph Feldman cut the price target, citing difficult macro and consumer spending trends, and a shorter holiday season.
The analyst maintained a Market Perform rating and lowered the price target from $115 to $85.
"In 2025, we expect Five Below to focus on back to basics after gravitating away from its core trendy, value-focused assortment in the past few years due to missteps in merchandising and operations," Feldman said.
Five Below is focused on its core teen and pre-teen customers, the analyst says. The company is also &#8220;reducing SKUs to allow newness&#8221; to emphasize value of products and take advantage of emerging trends.
Lastly, the company lowered its new store target for 2025.
"We believe these are steps in the right direction and should help to revive the business,&#8221; Feldman said.
Feldman said some of the company's changes could take time. The addition of a new CEO in December also remains a wildcard for the company's forward strategic plan, the analyst added.
"Taking it all together, we are encouraged by the progress on the turnaround but wait to see improvement in sales and profits."

Key Items to Watch: One of the largest items to watch when Five Below reports will be any commentary about tariffs.
Five Below gets a large amount of goods imported from China, which could make tariffs a contributing factor to lower profits or the need to pass on <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/24/12/42402629/trump-to-change-dollar-stores-for-good-dollar-tree-exec-says-prepared-to-act">higher costs to consumers.</a>
The discount retailer already shared that net sales during the 2024 holiday period were $1.19 billion from Nov. 3 through Jan. 4, up 8.7% year-over-year.
Data <a href="https://www.placer.ai/blog/discount-and-dollar-stores-in-a-strong-position-to-start-2025">from </a>Placer.ai showed visits to Five Below stores up 13.8% year-over-year in November. That&#8217;s up 3.3% year-over-year in December and up 14.5% year-over-year in January.
With most of November and December reported, January could be a key catalyst for the fourth-quarter results.
Five Below's fourth quarter began on Nov. 3 and will include November, December and January.
The retailer's financial results come shortly after results from discount retailers Dollar General (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DG#NYSE">DG</a>) and Dollar Tree (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DLTR#NASDAQ">DLTR</a>). Both of those retailers have stock that is down over 40% in the last year. Dollar General stock is positive by 7.6% year-to-date in 2025 with Dollar Tree stock down 14.8% year-to-date in 2025.
Price Action: Five stock is down 0.7% to $73.84 on Tuesday versus a 52-week trading range of $64.87 to $209.77. Five Below shares are down 25.5% year-to-date in 2025 and down 64.1% over the last year.

Additionally, DoorDash is offering a discounted DashPass plan for SNAP/EBT recipients, providing benefits like $0 delivery fees and exclusive offers for just $4.99/month.
This collaboration helps strengthen DoorDash&#8217;s position as one of the largest online marketplaces offering SNAP/EBT payment options for grocery delivery across the country.
Earlier this month, DoorDash <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/03/44218794/doordash-stock-is-rising-monday-whats-driving-the-action" rel="noreferrer noopener">joined the&nbsp;S&amp;P Dow Jones Indices.</a>

DoorDash Partners With Dollar General To Bring Food Access To SNAP Customers

Dollar General Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DG#NYSE">DG</a>) reported<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44300130/dollar-general-q4-revenue-crushes-estimate-as-sales-in-new-stores-pick-up" rel="noreferrer noopener"> better-than expected fourth-quarter</a> earnings. The following are the comments from analysts for the same.
Piper Sandler analyst Peter Keith reiterated a Neutral rating on the shares and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/dg/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">raised the price target from $79 to $81.</a>
DG reported fourth-quarter earnings per share of $0.87, which included a charge of $0.81 related to its store portfolio review and closures. Excluding these charges, the company would have exceeded consensus expectations of $1.51, said the analyst.
The company posted a 1.2% comp growth, above the 0.9% consensus, driving revenues up 4.5% year-over-year to $10.30 billion, surpassing the expected $10.26 billion.
Gross margin of 29.4% was slightly above expectations, though SG&amp;A expenses rose due to the portfolio review. Inventories were down 4% overall, and 6.5% on a per-store basis.
For 2025, DG guided an EPS range of $5.10 to $5.80, slightly below consensus of $5.83. The company expects flat EPS growth in 2025 due to increased real estate projects, store closures, and sales challenges in the first quarter.
Positive factors include increased sales from upper-income consumers and plan to expand the same-day delivery partnership with DoorDash to 10,000 stores.
Meanwhile, sluggish comp growth, unclear EPS growth trajectory, and potential tariff impacts on lower-income customers are concerns, concluded the analyst.

Telsey Advisory Group analyst Joseph Feldman reiterated a Market Perform rating on the shares with a price target of $85.00.
According to the analyst, Dollar General is transitioning from a growth retailer to a more mature one, focusing on slower unit growth and enhancing in-store operations.
This shift, led by CEO Todd Vasos, aims to boost operating profit and EPS growth (10%+ by 2026) while generating healthy cash flow for dividends and share buybacks.
The company is progressing with key initiatives like remodels, merchandising, and its Back to Basics strategy. While, challenges such as macro trends, higher labor costs, and operational inconsistencies persist.
Dollar General sees 2025 EPS of $5.10 &#8211; $5.80, below the FactSet consensus of $5.83.
Profitability will face challenges from promotions, a shift towards consumables, and higher costs, including wages, incentive compensation, and utility expenses, opined the analyst.
Price Action: DG shares traded lower by 0.86% at $79.26 at last check Friday.

Dollar General Shifts Focus To Stability, But Analysts Flag Profitability Pressures

Dollar General Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DG#NYSE">DG</a>) reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter sales results on Thursday.
The company reported fourth-quarter sales growth of 4.5% year-on-year to $10.304 billion, beating the analyst consensus estimate of $10.264 billion. EPS of $0.87 missed the consensus estimate of $1.51.
"We were pleased with the underlying performance of the business in the fourth quarter, including improved execution and solid top-line results," said CEO Todd Vasos.
As a result of store portfolio optimization review during the quarter, the company plans to close 96 Dollar General stores and 45 pOpshelf stores, and convert an additional six pOpshelf stores to Dollar General stores in the first quarter of fiscal 2025.
Dollar General expects FY25 sales growth of 3.4% – 4.4% and same-store sales growth of 1.2% – 2.2%. The company anticipates FY25 EPS of $5.10 – $5.80 versus an estimate of $5.85. Capital expenditure of $1.3 billion – $1.4 billion.
Dollar General shares gained 6.8% to close at $79.95 on Thursday.
These analysts made changes to their price targets on Dollar General following earnings announcement.
