Michael Kors, Capri's largest brand, offers handbags, footwear, and apparel through more than 700 company-owned stores, wholesale, and e-commerce. Versace (acquired in 2018) is known for its ready-to-wear luxury fashion, while Jimmy Choo (acquired in 2017) is best known for women's luxury footwear. In April 2025, Capri agreed to sell Versace to Prada. John Idol has served as Capri's CEO since 2003.

The popularity of Elon Musk has seen a significant downturn, as per a new tracker initiated by polling data analyst Nate Silver.
What Happened: The tracker, which was launched on Friday, indicates that a mere 39.6% of Americans hold&nbsp;a favorable view of Musk,&nbsp;while a majority of 53.5% view him unfavorably.
The tracker has been gathering data since January 2024 and shows a marked decrease in Musk&#8217;s popularity following his endorsement of President Donald Trump in July of the preceding year. Musk&#8217;s popularity suffered another blow after Trump assumed office and Musk launched DOGE, a move perceived as disruptive to American governmental institutions.
Responding to Silver's post on X announcing the tracker, Musk wrote, "The inevitable outcome of having a political propaganda war waged against me while I have almost no countervailing campaign.&#8221;

Bill Ackman, the CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management, who <a href="https://x.com/BillAckman/status/1812308245194682749">endorsed</a> Trump in July, is one of the latest billionaires to express his disagreement with the president over his levies. Ackman on Sunday made a lengthy post on <a href="https://x.com/BillAckman/status/1908992002366292286">X</a>, writing that, thanks to Trump's plan, "we are heading for a self-induced, economic nuclear winter, and we should start hunkering down."

"Business is a confidence game. The president is losing the confidence of business leaders around the globe. The consequences for our country and the millions of our citizens who have supported the president — in particular low-income consumers who are already under a huge amount of economic stress — are going to be severely negative. This is not what we voted for," he continued.&nbsp;
Ackman isn't the only wealthy businessman to express displeasure with Trump's new tariffs that range from 10% on all countries to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/08/business/trump-china-tariff/index.html">104% on big trading partners like China</a>.&nbsp;
Stanley Druckenmiller, the billionaire founder of the Duquesne Family Office, also took to <a href="https://x.com/StanleyDruckenm/status/1909154734751035410">X</a> on Monday to express his thoughts on the tariffs. In one of only about two dozen posts to his account, he wrote, "I do not support tariffs exceeding 10%."

Hours later, Ken Fisher, the founder and executive chairman of Fisher Investments, <a href="https://x.com/KennethLFisher/status/1909271920513605773">wrote on X</a>, "What Trump unveiled Wednesday is stupid, wrong, arrogantly extreme, ignorant trade-wise and addressing a non-problem with misguided tools.&nbsp; Yet, as near as I can tell it will fade and fail and the fear is bigger than the problem, which from here is bullish." He followed the initial post with: "I was not much vocal on Biden's errors or Trump's in first term &amp; don't usually go there with any POTUS but on tariffs Trump is beyond the pale by a long shot."
Even Elon Musk, the world's richest man, Tesla (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) CEO, seems to be opposed to the president's tariff agenda. He told Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini on Saturday in a video-link interview during the far-right League party in Florence that he hoped for a "zero-tariff situation" between the U.S. and the E.U. "At the end of the day, I hope it's agreed that both Europe and the United States should move ideally, in my view, to a zero-tariff situation, effectively creating a free-trade zone between Europe and North America," he said.&nbsp;
Historically, Trump has relied on the support of billionaires like Ackman, who publicly endorsed him throughout the last election cycle, and Musk, who spent an estimated $200 million to help elect him in November. But it remains to be seen whether their displeasure with the decision and their advice against it will sway Trump's decision-making going forward.&nbsp;

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Tariffs Could Hurt, Not Help</h2>
In a series of posts on April 7, Gerber argued that Trump's aggressive tariff strategy is pushing the economy in the wrong direction.
&#8220;There is no way these tariffs can go into effect without serious damage to the US economy,&#8221; he <a href="https://x.com/GerberKawasaki/status/1909367262747980074">wrote</a>. &#8220;This is basically a crappy way to negotiate. We moved from a position of strength to weakness. Whatever &#8216;deals&#8217; we make would be worse than if this was handled by a professional.&#8221;
Gerber also predicted that the administration will eventually be forced to soften its approach. &#8220;Just a matter of time till we see all the &#8216;exceptions&#8217; and &#8216;deals&#8217; being made to lessen this disaster in 3rd grade Econ,&#8221; he <a href="https://x.com/GerberKawasaki/status/1909366239098814578">added</a>.

Gerber&#8217;s criticism didn't stop with Trump. On April 3, he <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44643409/ross-gerber-and-gary-kasparov-slam-bill-ackmans-defense-of-trumps-trade-war-tactics-this-is-garbage-policy">responded directly to hedge fund manager</a> Bill Ackman, who had defended Trump&#8217;s negotiation tactics by suggesting that appearing &#8220;crazy&#8221; could be strategic.
&#8220;Bill please. Enough excuses. You&#8217;re a smart man. This is garbage policy,&#8221; Gerber replied.
Chess grandmaster and a prominent critic of authoritarianism, Gary Kasparov, also weighed in, saying, &#8220;That only works if you're not actually crazy, I'm afraid,&#8221; in a clear jab at Trump's leadership style.

Ackman later suggested that foreign leaders should reach out to Trump directly, calling him a dealmaker who sees the world as transactional. But Gerber wasn't buying it. Responding to Fox Business senior correspondent Charles Gasparino, who said that the goal of the new tariff policy is to negotiate reciprocal agreements to reduce tariffs with trading partners, Gerber <a href="https://x.com/GerberKawasaki/status/1907786058106069309">said</a>, &#8220;This is a bad way to do business.&#8221;
At the core of Gerber's argument is a belief that Trump's approach to trade is creating more instability than strength. For Gerber, the fastest way to calm markets and restore confidence is to undo what's been done.
&#8220;Even a rumor&#8221; of change, he said, was enough to send markets higher. That alone, he believes, says everything.

Arthur Hayes Forecasts Bitcoin Boom Amid US Tariff Policies

Aetherflux, the space-based solar energy startup founded by <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44599184/cathie-woods-tuesday-bet-ark-loads-up-on-more-robinhood-stock-amid-platform-expansion">Robinhood</a> billionaire Baiju Bhatt, has secured $50 million in a Series A funding round to push forward its vision of transmitting power from orbit to Earth, writes<a href="https://techcrunch.com/2025/04/02/space-solar-startup-aetherflux-raises-50m-to-launch-first-space-demo-in-2026/"> TechCrunch</a>. The raise comes as the company prepares to launch its first satellite demonstration mission in 2026.
The new <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/04/44630762/mark-cuban-says-black-women-entrepreneurs-should-stop-looking-for-funding-heres-the-surprising-reason-why">funding</a> brings Aetherflux's total capital to $60 million, bolstered by Bhatt's own $10 million contribution. <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Key Investors and the Road Ahead for Aetherflux</h2>
The company, based in San Carlos, California, came out of stealth mode in late 2023 and is working to build satellites that will generate solar power in orbit and beam it back down to ground stations using electricity-powered laser technology. It's a science fiction-inspired futuristic pitch, specifically from Isaac Asimov's 1941 short story Reason, but one Bhatt is determined to make real.
Speaking with TechCrunch, Bhatt said they want to &#8220;demonstrate that we have made this transformative progress of going from humans not having power from space to, for the very first time, there being power from space for humans.&#8221;
The first step is placing an operational satellite into low Earth orbit, which is built on a bus platform based on Apex Space's Aries design. The payload riding on top will harness energy captured by solar panels and convert it to a laser beam that can deliver about one kilowatt of energy back to the surface of the Earth.

On the ground, special photovoltaic arrays will receive and store that energy. These so-called "ground stations" are still in development, with Aetherflux determined to consider military sites as possible locations because of the controlled airspace in these areas. Ultimately, the company intends to miniaturize the stations into mobile units that can deliver electricity to remote or energy-insecure areas.
Bhatt emphasized the importance of providing "end-to-end power linking" in the upcoming demo, saying the plan is to light up an installation or run simple electronics on the ground using energy transmitted from space.
The company's team includes engineers from NASA, SpaceX, Lockheed Martin (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LMT#NYSE">LMT</a>), Anduril and the U.S. Navy, showcasing the technical strength behind this bold initiative.
So far, very few have managed to transfer solar energy from space wirelessly. According to TechCrunch, Caltech's 2023 microwave beaming experiment is still the most famous example but Aetherflux is aiming higher with a scalable system.

President Donald Trump&#8216;s escalation of his tariff war with China has significantly disturbed the global economy.
What Happened: This week, Trump announced a 90-day pause on tariffs against most multiple countries, but simultaneously ramped up import taxes on China to a whopping 145 percent. In a countermove, China raised its own tariffs to 125 percent on Friday.
While Trump insists that China is keen to negotiate a deal, he remains uncertain about the process. On the other hand, Chinese leaders have put a cap on their latest tariff hikes, cautioning that the ongoing conflict could turn into a global economic farce.
The U.S. President&#8217;s strategy has raised questions about his ultimate goal and the potential economic repercussions of this escalating trade war. Trump is of the belief that the&nbsp;tariffs will reduce the trade&nbsp;deficit and bring back manufacturing jobs to the U.S.
"What's the endgame here? Are we really going to reshore manufacturing based in China? And if we're hitting every country on earth with additional tariffs, where are we going to see companies flee China to?" Marc Busch, a professor of international business diplomacy at Georgetown University <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5245475-trump-tariff-battle-china/">told</a> The Hill. "They're not coming back to the United States, so what is the endgame here?"

On Wednesday,&nbsp;Trump announced the latest tariff&nbsp;hike on China, increasing it after imposing a&nbsp;104 percent rate that day.&nbsp;A White House official confirmed on Thursday that&nbsp;the rate is now 145&nbsp;percent on China, factoring in&nbsp;an additional 20 percent that&nbsp;includes sectors the reciprocal tariffs&nbsp;do not cover.
Trump also&nbsp;implemented a 90-day reprieve from&nbsp;the &#8220;Liberation Day&#8221;&nbsp;tariffs against all other trading&nbsp;partners, which brought immediate relief to the stock market. He attributed this decision to China&#8217;s disrespect towards the World&#8217;s Markets.
In response, China&#8217;s Ministry of Finance accused the U.S. of violating&nbsp;international economic and trade rules,&nbsp;and disregarding&nbsp;the post-World War II global&nbsp;economic order. Beijing then increased tariffs on U.S. goods to 125 percent on Friday and declared it would cease participating in the tariff hike exchange.
Why It Matters: Despite the ongoing conflict, the U.S. and China continue to be significant trading partners. In 2024, the&nbsp;two countries traded an estimated&nbsp;$582.4 billion,&nbsp;according to data from the&nbsp;U.S. trade representative&#8217;s&nbsp;office. 
The trade deficit with&nbsp;China was at $295.4 billion,&nbsp;up 5.8 percent from the&nbsp;previous year. This escalating trade war could have far-reaching implications for both economies and the global market at large.

The exclusions apply to smartphones,&nbsp;laptop computers, hard drives,&nbsp;and computer processors and memory&nbsp;chips, shielding them&nbsp;from Trump's 125% China tariff&nbsp;and his baseline 10% global&nbsp;tariff on nearly all other&nbsp;countries.

Bitcoin is currently trading at $80,200 as of Tuesday, which is a crucial level to hold. This level represents the 50% retracement of $79,500 from the previous swing low to the all-time high. It serves as a natural support level where, as an investor or trader, you'd want to see demand.

Zooming in a little closer to the weekly timeframe, we can see more detail regarding the structure that formed the monthly swings.&nbsp;
As of the current price action, BTC is holding well above the 50 EMA, which aligns with the 50% retracement level of the overall trading range.

Areas to watch on the weekly chart include the 50 EMA and the strength around the current swing. For any continuation in the short to mid-term, price would need to form a higher low here.

Since mid-January, Bitcoin has been in a bearish market—characterized by the market attacking lows and leaving behind protected highs, which are lower highs. On Sunday, Bitcoin made a run toward the swing low around $76,500 but failed to close below it, which could be a potential sign of strength or demand.

What is key to watch here on the daily chart?&nbsp;
Since the trend is still bearish, the first detail to look for is a break above a lower high to indicate a potential shift in trend. That level is currently at $88,000. You would want to see price move above the range highs and not reject, as the market did during the inauguration.
The potential bull case still stands in my view as long as Bitcoin continues to show relative strength above the Election/November low. However, as mentioned, if the price breaks below the 50 EMA on the weekly, I'd expect that to be the next downside target before any sort of high-time-frame bounce.

The most popular dollar ETF is UUP, which provides exposure to the greenback versus a basket of currencies including the euro, yen, and pound. It&#8217;s constructed to profit when the dollar rises — but has underperformed in recent days as bearishness sets in, dipping 3% in the past month.
For those investors seeking to benefit from a falling dollar, the UDN provides inverse exposure to the same basket. UDN benefits when the dollar falls, and recent price action indicates that the tide may be shifting in its direction. The fund has gained 3.8% in the past month.
At the same time, the USDU offers a wider, more dynamic exposure, such as the Chinese yuan, Mexican peso, and South Korean won. This may interest investors looking for more diversified currency exposure as the global trade environment evolves. However, the fund has lost about 2% in the past four weeks as currencies across the world remained volatile.
These ETFs are being used more and more to take views on the dollar&#8217;s path — and for good reason.
The greenback is no longer on a high horse. A Bloomberg dollar <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-04-11/dollar-emerges-as-latest-victim-of-this-week-s-markets-mayhem?sref=TBDibEcD">gauge </a>plunged to a new six-month low on Friday after China struck back in the trade war, hiking levies on all U.S. imports from 84% to 125% from April 12. That news alone would be sufficient to spook markets — but it was followed by figures that the U.S. wholesale prices declined by the largest amount since 2023, indicating that inflation is still muted at the very moment that tariffs are poised to push prices higher.
The spillover was prompt. Options investors went short on the dollar for the first time in half a decade, while a Z-score measure — tracking how far the current positioning departs from historic standards — marked the steepest shift in sentiment ever recorded, according to Bloomberg. One-month risk reversals inverted in favor of downside protection in the dollar, confirming the narrative that investors are dumping ingrained perceptions about the greenback as a refuge asset.

Markets across the board are getting hit. The S&amp;P 500 dropped 3.5% on Thursday, long-term Treasuries declined, and traders are now pricing in almost 90 basis points of Fed rate reductions for the year. Although the S&amp;P 500 closed 1.8% higher on Friday, the heat is building in the market with pressure on the Federal Reserve to respond to tariffs compressing growth and inflation cooling. Policymakers may have no other choice but to loosen.
The dollar&#8217;s largest decline in over two years highlights just how rapidly investor attitude can change — and for those who want to hedge currency exposure or bet on additional swings, dollar ETFs are becoming more and more the instrument of choice.

Rudy Giuliani has expressed dissatisfaction with the FBI and the Justice Department even under President Donald Trump.

Bill Ackman has outperformed the stock market over the past five years with Pershing Square Capital Management. The hedge fund chief was an advocate for Donald Trump during the campaign but doesn't agree with the president's stance on tariffs.
Stock market participants have been fleeing the market amid tariffs. The president's reciprocal tariffs scared investors the most, causing the Nasdaq Composite to plunge by more than 10% from between April 2 and Friday.&nbsp;
"When markets crash, new investments stop, [and] consumers stop spending money," Ackman said in an <a href="https://x.com/BillAckman/status/1908992002366292286">X post</a>.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Country Has Been Disadvantaged For Too Long&nbsp;</h2>
Ackman started his X post by asserting that the U.S. has been taken advantage of for too long. He is a fan of tariffs and likes that Trump elevated the issue. He also wrote that other nations have used tariffs to protect their home industries at the cost of American jobs.
The U.S. has used tariffs before Trump, and some of them are recent. For instance, the Biden administration imposed a <a href="https://www.utilitydive.com/news/joe-biden-china-tariff-hikes-ev-battery-semiconductor-final/727014/">100% tariff on electric vehicles</a> and a 25% tariff on lithium-ion batteries.&nbsp;
Tariffs can protect certain industries and workers. Ackman believes that leveraging tariffs can strengthen the country and likes a moderate approach.

Ackman changed his tune when he saw the blanket reciprocal tariff rates spread across allies and adversaries. He believes tariffing every country can make the U.S. a less reliable trading partner and prompt international businesses to avoid the U.S. He proposed that Trump call a 90-day timeout to avoid economic carnage.&nbsp;
"Business investments will grind to a halt, consumers will close their wallets and pocketbooks, and we will severely damage our reputation with the rest of the world that will take years and potentially decades to rehabilitate," Ackman explained.&nbsp;

Trump has moved swiftly since reclaiming the Oval Office. He isn't taking a gradual approach and has filled the stock market with uncertainty. While Ackman is worried about high tariffs, some of the people who replied to his X post didn't feel the same way.
"Over 50 countries have requested to speak to Pres Trump about lowering or eliminating their tariffs on the USA. It's working. He knows what he's doing," one user replied.
"The vast majority of Americans – especially the 90% who aren't invested in the stock market – aren't concerned with the temporary discomfort your elite class might experience," another user replied.
However, some users were quick to criticize Trump and Ackman.
"Trump is doing what Trump promised to do. You and others supported him all the way. It's too late to jump out of the moving train now," one X user replied to the post.
"Not getting around that one. Go look in the mirror and realize what you have done," another X user replied, referencing Ackman's enthusiasm toward Trump during the campaign.

An entity partly controlled by Eric may be selling its Ethereum holdings despite his infamous buy the dip post in February.
On Wednesday, crypto smart money tracker Lookonchain <a href="https://x.com/lookonchain/status/1909782070618210423?t=RXunFUn_fdUrt7EU8T6Vxw&amp;s=19">flagged</a> a transaction from an address <a href="https://intel.arkm.com/explorer/address/0x77a56647fba0eb60abb7395574Cded565F6F94F6">labeled</a> World Liberty Financial on Arkham Intelligence. It suggested that the decentralized finance project taken over by a Trump family firm partly controlled by Eric was dumping its Ethereum holdings at a loss.
Specifically, the address sold nearly 5,500 ETH for $8 million at an average price of $1,465 per coin. The reported sale comes at a potential 55% loss to World Liberty Financial, which accumulated 67,498 coins for $210 million at an average price of $3,259, a stash now $125 million in the red.

A 52-year-old man recently called into "The Ramsey Show" to discuss the $12,000 in credit card debt that he has accumulated on 27 credit cards. Host Dave Ramsey specializes in helping people get out of debt, and he told the caller to take <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PqkWwmPQTI">drastic action</a>.
"Chop them all up. Every one of them," Ramsey said of the credit cards. Ramsey explained that the caller should cut up his credit cards.&nbsp;
It may sound dramatic, but the caller has to get focused like his life depends on it. That's how Ramsey sees it. Getting your finances right creates more opportunities, but being in credit card debt for too long makes it much harder to invest money and build the long-term wealth that you need to retire when you are ready.

Ramsey also shared some strategies for getting out of credit card debt. While these suggestions specifically cater to the caller, anyone can use these tactics to trim their credit card balances.&nbsp;
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Stop The Bleeding</h2>
Ramsey first recommends that the caller stop the bleeding by not using his credit cards anymore. Ramsey believes that the caller can get out of debt in a few months, and it is plausible. The caller has $12,000 in credit card debt and earns $200,000 per year.&nbsp;
Ramsey tried to pinpoint if the caller had any vices that resulted in the debt despite having a high salary. The caller mentioned a $4,000 electric lawn mower but was reluctant to give any information. It came out later in the call that the 52-year-old man provides financial support for his ex. The caller said he gives $15,000 in support to his ex each year, but Ramsey assumed it was more. He told the caller to stop giving money to the ex and focus exclusively on the children.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Write A Detailed Budget</h2>
Ramsey also told the caller to write a detailed budget. This advice was especially useful since the caller had a fuzzy idea of how he was spending his money. It's possible that the caller knows how he is allocating money but wants to keep some of that information private.
A clear budget defines how you will spend your money. However, it also establishes how you will not spend money. Ramsey said that if it's not on your budget, you can't spend money on it. While sticking to a budget requires discipline, it's very rewarding. The caller should be able to pay off $12,000 quickly if he minimizes expenses and maintains a $200,000 annual salary.&nbsp;
Ramsey alluded to this by saying that the real problem is that the caller has no idea where the money is going. Knowing how you spend money can give you the necessary clarity to make key changes in your finances that translate into lower debt.

JAN3 CEO Samson Mow believes that Tether is set to surpass Ethereum in market capitalization.

On Wednesday, he shared this view again, <a href="https://x.com/Excellion/status/1909851227820523922?t=s-hbvCr_O9FjHNac4q06Pg&amp;s=19">adding</a> &#8220;Getting closer,&#8221; as he showed a screenshot of market capitalization rankings that showed only a $32 billion gap between Ethereum and Tether, with market capitalizations of $175.62 billion and $143.91 billion, respectively planets away from Bitcoin&#8217;s $1.52 trillion.

While Mow&#8217;s prediction of Tether overtaking Ethereum in the cryptocurrency asset rankings is likely driven by some level of schadenfreude as a Bitcoin maximalist, he is not the only one considering the possibility. The idea has taken root in the cryptocurrency subreddit.
One Redditor <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/s/443y5hxzwh">stressed</a> the possibility by highlighting the decline in several key Ethereum metrics even as USDT adoption grows.
&#8220;ETH dominance is near multi-year lows. DeFi TVL is stagnating, NFT volumes are down, and gas fees are no longer a meaningful moat. Tether, ironically, has become the most used asset across chains. If ETH can&#8217;t reclaim narrative dominance soon, a USDT flippening could signal a deeper shift in crypto capital flows-away from smart contract risk and toward dollar-denominated stability,&#8221; the Redditor wrote.
Another Redditor, in a more highly engaged <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/s/fql9GfWHDu">post</a>, highlighted the narrowing gap between Ethereum and Tether, describing it as &#8220;The Flippening nobody wanted to see.&#8221;
But Tether may not be the only asset in the running to flip Ethereum.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Standard Chartered Backs XRP</h2>
On Tuesday, Standard Chartered Head of Digital Assets Research Geoffrey Kendrick backed XRP, the native token of the XRP Ledger associated with blockchain payments firm Ripple, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/04/44708153/xrp-will-overtake-ethereum-by-2028-standard-chartered">to eventually surpass Ethereum</a>.
&#8220;By the end of 2028 we see XRP&#8217;s market cap overtaking Ethereum&#8217;s. That will make XRP the second largest (non-stablecoin) Digital Asset at that time,&#8221; Kendrick wrote.
The view comes from the firm expecting XRP to benefit from an anticipated rise in the adoption of cryptocurrencies for cross-border payments and a potential tokenization push from Ripple. On the other hand, the firm has tipped Ethereum to continue to underperform the market amid perceived value extraction by Layer 2 chains.&nbsp;
At the time, Kendrick argued that a reversal in Ethereum&#8217;s outlook would require a shift in policy from the Ethereum Foundation.
&#8220;Only a proactive change of commercial direction from the Ethereum Foundation &#8211; such as taxing layer 2s &#8211; could achieve that now, in our view. We see this as unlikely,&#8221; he wrote.

At 35, Aubrey Bertram was looking forward to a major financial milestone: erasing more than $247,000 in student loan debt. But with just 29 months left until forgiveness, her progress has come to a halt.
According to <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/business/personal-finance/35-year-old-was-29-months-away-getting-247804-student-debt-forgiven-no-rcna199358">NBC News</a>, Bertram, a staff attorney at nonprofit land conservation organization Wild Montana, was working toward loan cancellation through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. She had carefully mapped out her career to qualify for the program, which forgives remaining federal student loan balances for government and nonprofit workers after 10 years of qualifying payments.
Now, like millions of other borrowers, she's stuck in limbo.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Loan Forgiveness Timeline Put on Pause</h2>
Bertram had enrolled in the Biden-era SAVE plan — Saving on a Valuable Education — which was designed to lower monthly payments and offer a clearer path to forgiveness. But legal challenges led by Republican states resulted in a federal court <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/24/07/39849095/appeals-court-blocks-bidens-save-student-loan-debt-relief-plan">blocking the SAVE plan</a> last year.&nbsp;
Unlike the pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, this current forbearance doesn't count toward forgiveness under PSLF or other income-driven repayment plans. That means time is passing, but Bertram and others like her aren't getting any closer to their debt being wiped away.
"In the end, we may see borrowers lose over a year of monthly payments to count toward forgiveness," said Elaine Rubin of Edvisors, an organization that helps students understand college financing.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Borrowers Can Do Now</h2>
While SAVE is frozen, the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/education/25/03/44444175/trump-orders-steps-to-dismantle-department-of-education-what-it-means-for-student-loans">U.S. Department of Education</a> has reopened applications for several older IDR plans. These include:

<li>Income-Based Repayment, IBR </li>
<li>Pay As You Earn, PAYE</li>
<li>Income-Contingent Repayment, ICR</li>

</ul>
However, there's a catch. Scott Buchanan, executive director of the Student Loan Servicing Alliance, told NBC News that automatic forgiveness after 20 or 25 years may not apply to these plans under current legal interpretations. Still, borrowers in these plans can continue to make progress toward PSLF if they qualify.
Additionally, past payments made under one IDR plan can count toward forgiveness in another — for example, switching from ICR to IBR — as long as eligibility criteria are met.

Bertram has chosen to stay in the SAVE forbearance for now, despite the fact that it isn't helping her move toward forgiveness. She's concerned that switching to another plan could result in even more uncertainty.
"You're constantly being jerked around by political rhetoric," Bertram said. "I just hope I'm student-debt free before I'm 40."
