AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMC#NYSE">AMC</a>) on Tuesday <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/amc" rel="noreferrer noopener">reached an agreement</a> with&nbsp;National CineMedia Inc to run more advertising in its theaters.
From July 1, AMC theater screens will feature a "platinum spot" before the start of a film, Bloomberg <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-06-03/amc-theaters-to-run-even-more-commercials-before-movies-play?srnd=phx-technology&amp;sref=TBDibEcD" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported</a> on Thursday. The theater chain will get a cut of the ad sales.
National CineMedia owns and operates an ad network in major theater chains, including AMC,&nbsp;Cinemark Holdings Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CNK#NYSE">CNK</a>), and Regal Cinemas.

AMC reported <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/25/05/45268260/amc-q1-earnings-highlights-double-beat-ceo-highlights-2025-2026-slate-as-box-office-doubles-in-april" rel="noreferrer noopener">first-quarter revenue</a> of $862.5 million, down 9.3% year-over-year. The total beat a Street consensus estimate of $837.1 million<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/register?utm_adType=bzprocontent&amp;utm_campaign=14daytrial&amp;utm_ad=0507" rel="noreferrer noopener">.</a>
The company reported an adjusted loss of 58 cents per share for the quarter, beating a Street consensus estimate of 59 cents per share.
Total attendance was 41.9 million in the first quarter, down 10.1%. U.S. attendance was 26.9 million, down 11.8%, while international attendance of 15.0 million was down 7.1%.
AMC's CEO,&nbsp;Adam Aron, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45276888/amc-ceo-says-q1-was-the-worst-domestic-box-office-since-covid-19but-expects-a-rebound-in-2025-with-barn-burners-coming-all-year" rel="noreferrer noopener">remains upbeat and has</a> a strong outlook for the rest of this year, pointing to a packed slate of major studio releases for the summer and beyond.
AMC expects the 2025 domestic box office to land at the upper end of its prior forecast, potentially $500 million to $1 billion higher than last year.
AMC <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45616728/amc-entertainment-stock-is-rising-tuesday-whats-going-on" rel="noreferrer noopener">announced that the</a> Memorial Day holiday weekend spanning Thursday through Monday was the company's third-biggest revenue total for a five-day period in over 10 years, driven by robust openings from "Lilo &amp; Stitch," as well as "Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning."
More than seven million people attended AMC locations in the&nbsp;U.S. and ODEON Cinemas internationally, which helped the company record its highest attendance on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays of the year in the U.S.
AMC&nbsp;stock declined 34% in the last 12 months as it grappled with weak box office performance since the COVID-19 pandemic.

D-Box Technologies Announces Expansion Of Its Relationship With Cinemark Holdings. Will Add Over 70 D-Box Haptic-Enabled Screens Across As Many As 25 Cinemark Theaters In United States In The Next Eighteen Months

Cineplex operator Cinemark Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CNK#NYSE">CNK</a>) presently operates under the framework of two sets of facts. Both facts can be true at the same time. Still, at a certain point, one narrative will likely become truer than the other, making <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/price-target/25/05/45209210/box-office-momentum-pushes-cinemark-past-forecasts-says-analyst">CNK stock</a> one of the most fascinating (albeit risky) ideas.
On one hand, Cinemark is a beneficiary of intense speculative fervor. Ordinarily, investors may not be so quick to overlook — let alone reward — a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/05/45169195/whats-going-on-with-cinemark-stock-today">mixed earnings performance</a>. Yet late last week, market participants ignored convention when the company disclosed a quarterly per-share loss of 32 cents in the first quarter, well off the consensus view of a 10-cent loss.
True, sales in the period of $540.7 million managed to just beat out analysts' target of $540.68 million. Nevertheless, the tally represented a 6.6% decline on a year-over-year basis. It should be noted that the slate of movies during this time were weak. Also, management stated that the business still suffered lingering effects of the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Even so, the circumstances aren't exactly encouraging for Cinemark.
For retail investors, the challenges apparently didn't matter, with CNK stock responding strongly despite the mixed numbers. After a brief selloff on Monday, shares have stormed higher, fueled potentially by <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/what-is-a-short-squeeze">short-squeeze speculation</a>.
At the moment, CNK's short interest stands at a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/CNK/short-interest">staggering 33.3% of its float</a>, while its short interest ratio is 4.99 days to cover. Therefore, it would take approximately a week (based on average trading volume) for the bears to fully unwind their short exposure.
As pet food company Freshpet Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FRPT#NASDAQ">FRPT</a>) has demonstrated, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/05/45236387/frpt-stock-short-squeeze-mixed-q1-earnings">short squeezes can extract robust performances</a> for an extended period. Therefore, CNK stock can stay elevated for quite some time.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sustainability Challenges May Eventually Weigh On CNK Stock</h2>
Adding to the remarkable rally is that this isn't Cinemark's first rodeo in terms of extended bullishness. Assuming that CNK stock can finish out this week in the black, it will have generated six straight weeks of upside. Such a streak has occurred three times over the past 10 years — and has only reversed one time.
Frankly, it's difficult to read too much into a sample size of three datapoints. Nevertheless, the available empirical data suggests that short-squeeze pressure on CNK stock can last for a while.
On the other hand, no asset continues to rise indefinitely without encountering some challenges, which raises the other set of facts: CNK stock has difficulty sustaining bullish dominance.
As circumstances stand now, CNK is printing an "8-2" sequence: eight weeks of upside (six of them consecutive) mixed with two weeks of downside. The issue, though, is that this bullish-dominant sequence has only materialized 10 times in the past decade — and seven of the cases resulted in a downcycle for the following week.

What's more, the 7-3 sequence — which has occurred 48 times — features a downside probability in the following week of 60.42%. Stated differently, as the euphoria fades, there's a greater risk that the weaker hands among the optimists get skittish about the elevated valuation.
Fundamentally, and this relates to the other truth about CNK's sustainability issue, the cineplex industry is fighting to beat expectations in a shrinking market. Going back to Cinemark's first-quarter earnings report, admissions revenue dipped 8.9% to $264.1 million, stemming from an attendance figure that declined 7.8% to 36.6 million patrons.
Granted, Cinemark performed admirably in light of the context — that cannot be ignored. But the shrinking arena also cannot be casually dismissed.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A High-Stakes Bearish Gamble</h2>
With the freight train still rolling for CNK stock, it's wise not to fight the tape. At some point, though, the fervor may eventually fade, with reality then taking the wheel. At that point, it's possible the bears could take control of the market.
For emotionally agnostic traders, then, the 31/29 bear put spread expiring June 20 appears tempting. This transaction involves buying the $31 put and simultaneously selling the $29 put, for a net debit paid of $80. Should CNK stock fall through the short strike price of $29 at expiration, the maximum reward at time of writing is $120, or a 150% payout.
Granted, CNK stock is extremely difficult to decipher because of the extremely high short interest, which usually doesn't neatly resolve linearly. However, based on prior trends — combined with some speculation to account for the short interest — CNK has an arguably solid chance of falling to the short strike price over the next several weeks.

JP Morgan analyst David Karnovsky reiterated an Overweight rating on the shares of Cinemark Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CNK#NYSE">CNK</a>) on Monday and raised the price forecast from $34.00 to $35.00.
Cinemark's <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/05/45169195/whats-going-on-with-cinemark-stock-today">first-quarter performance</a> topped expectations, delivering $541 million in revenue and $36 million in adjusted EBITDA, ahead of consensus estimates of $524 million and $34 million, respectively. 
Compared to the analyst&#8217;s forecast of $515 million in revenue and $26 million in EBITDA, the outperformance was driven across key metrics, including higher attendance, improved per-patron spending, and additional revenue streams. 
On the expense side, results were mostly aligned with forecasts, though concession costs came in above projections. Management attributed this to a higher mix of merchandise in what is typically a lighter quarter, with costs expected to normalize going forward.

Looking ahead, the company increased its 2025 wide-release film forecast to 120, up from 115, matching the analyst&#8217;s current projection. 
Cinemark also expressed greater optimism for 2026, spotlighting Amazon MGM's CinemaCon participation and its potential to debut as many as 14 films in theaters that year, compared to just four expected in 2025. 
On broader economic trends, Cinemark reiterated that box office demand had shown little historical sensitivity to economic conditions and reported no noticeable impact on per-capita spending or premium large-format attendance.
The 2025 North American box office forecast has been revised upward to $9.523 billion, marking an 11.1% year-over-year increase, driven by stronger-than-expected second-quarter projections.
Karnovsky&#8217;s projections for 2025 have been updated, with revenue now expected to reach $3.374 billion and adjusted EBITDA forecast at $674 million.
The outlook reflects a 6.4% rise in domestic theater attendance and a 3% bump in ticket prices, slightly reducing market share to 14.2%. 
Karnovsky noted that the second quarter is anticipated to see a 14.4% market share, pressured by competition from Inside Out 2 and capacity constraints, though partially offset by a strong lineup of family and horror titles.
Price Action: CNK shares traded lower by 3.53% at $29.23 at last check on Monday.

(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CNK#NYSE">CNK</a>) as the 2025 and 2026 content slate will see many blockbuster films hit theaters.

One of the likely early examples that could show how the sector will be attacked is Paramount film "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning." The film was already filmed prior to Trump's tariff threat, but counts the United Kingdom as its primary filming location.
With a May 23 opening date, the film's tariff status could be closely monitored by the sector.
Top film franchises like "Avengers" and "Avatar" have filming locations outside the U.S. Famous film franchises like "Star Wars" and "The Lord of the Rings" famously had filming locations outside the U.S.

Industry veterans warn the decision for tariffs could significantly harm the sector.
"It's insane. So U.S. companies can only make U.S. films? James Cameron can't make Avatar overseas? Who pays the tariffs? Leading independent distributors would all be out of business if it's them," a veteran U.K. producer told Deadline.
A French distributor told <a href="https://deadline.com/2025/05/trump-movie-tariffs-hollywood-independent-film-destroy-1236385169/">Deadline </a>the move could "kill the U.S. industry quicker."
While Trump is seeking to punish films not made in America, others have ideas to reward films and TV shows made in America. California Gov. Gavin Newsom is pushing for a plan to have $750 million in annual incentives for content filmed in the state, as reported by Deadline.
"We believe he has no authority to impose tariffs under the International Economic Emergency Powers Act, since tariffs are not listed as a remedy under that law," Newsom senior advisor for communications Bob Salladay told <a href="https://deadline.com/2025/05/trump-movie-tariffs-gavin-newsom-response-1236385079/">Deadline</a>.

The <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/01/36476388/from-mario-to-minecraft-jack-black-boards-new-video-game-adaptation">highly anticipated "Minecraft" movie </a>has turned into a blockbuster hit for Warner Bros. Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WBD#NASDAQ">WBD</a>) and could be a revenue generator for theater companies like AMC Entertainment (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMC#NYSE">AMC</a>) and Cinemark Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CNK#NYSE">CNK</a>).
The impressive box office numbers will also likely mean more video games getting adapted into movies and TV series as media companies look for built-in fan bases.
What Happened: Billionaire Elon Musk is well-known for many things, including <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/gaming/23/08/33610477/elon-musk-lover-of-video-games-has-praise-for-this-record-breaking-title-and-its-not-elden-ring">his love of video games</a> such as "Diablo 4" and "Elden Ring."
With the success of "Minecraft" at the box office, Musk is now hoping for one of those hit games to be made into a movie.
Musk responded to former Blizzard Entertainment executive Mark Kern, also known as Grummz, who shared a post from GamesIndustry suggesting more video game adaptations are likely coming.
"Just like comics were in the past, the rich history of video games is now the wellspring of creative storytelling," Musk <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1911978724905431227">tweeted</a>.
One X user suggested that they should make a movie based on "Elden Ring" next.
"That would be awesome," Musk <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1911979256730570887">replied</a>.
Musk has often shared his love of the 2022 video game developed by FromSoftware that counts Japanese game developer Hidetaka Miyazaki and "Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin as figures who worked on the development of the action role-playing game.
"Minecraft" <a href="https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl746096129/?ref_=bo_hm_rd">opened </a>with $162.8 million domestically and has now grossed $278.9 million domestically and $552.7 million worldwide. The film is the top-grossing film domestically in 2025 beating "Captain America: Brave New World" and is the second-highest-grossing film worldwide for the year.

What's Next: The success of "Minecraft" could lead to more video games being made into movies and shows. "Minecraft" was released in 2011 and the game's parent Mojang was later acquired by Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) for $2.5 billion in 2014.
The film came with a built-in fan base of varying ages, which could explain how it beat original estimates of $70 to $90 million for its domestic opening. As movie studios and streamers look for their next hits, games with built-in fan bases could be attractive.
"Minecraft itself is a cultural juggernaut — over 300 million copies sold, and a fanbase spanning kids to adults who've been building pixelated empires for years," Exhibitor Relations box office analyst Jeff Bock told <a href="https://www.gamesindustry.biz/video-games-franchises-are-now-ripe-for-the-picking-why-a-minecraft-movie-could-lead-to-games-taking-over-hollywood">GamesIndustry</a>.
Alinea Analytics Head of Market Analysis Rhys Elliott highlighted the timing of the film not being around other blockbusters and coming at a time when many schools were on spring break as a potential win by Warner Bros. marketing team.
Elliott said recent hits like "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" and the Sonic film franchise have shown how video game adaptations can be successful.
&#8220;The Mario movie even outperformed juggernauts like Frozen and Despicable Me. If studios weren't paying attention to games before, they certainly were after Mario. And now Minecraft is another feather in that cap," Elliott said. &nbsp;
While more announcements could be made, there are already many video games in the works of being adapted into films or shows, including "Death Stranding," which was announced as a new A24 movie after "Minecraft's" opening.
Up next for game adaptations is the April 25, 2025, release of the "Until Dawn" movie from Sony Group Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SONY#NYSE">SONY</a>), as reported by <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/upcoming-video-game-movies-and-tv-shows">IGN</a>. There are also sequels to "Mortal Kombat" and "Five Nights at Freddy's" scheduled for this year. In 2026, movies include "Street Fighter," and "The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2."
On the television side, "The Last of Us" has been a successful video game adaptation to TV for Warner Bros. Discovery with a second season recently premiering on HBO and Max. "Fallout" has also been a hit for Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), with a second season in the works and the first season leading to strong sales for the video game franchise.  
The success of the &#8220;Minecraft&#8221; movie could also be a positive for Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NFLX#NASDAQ">NFLX</a>), which is working on<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/05/39096394/minecraft-series-coming-to-major-streaming-platform-microsofts-hit-game-thrives"> a series adaptation </a>of the hit game.
While many video game adaptations have been hits, not all of them work out. The 2024 "Borderlands" film grossed less than $20 million domestically and grossed $33 million worldwide.
Speculation about the hit Epic Games "Fortnite" battle royale game being turned into a movie was quickly downplayed by Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, as <a href="https://comicbookmovie.com/video-games/epic-games-ceo-refutes-rumors-of-fortnite-movie-following-a-minecraft-movie-success-a218548">reported </a>by ComicBookMovie.com. Sweeney tweeted "false" to a fan's post that "Fortnite" would be the next game adapted for the big screen and that some studios had already passed on the film rights. Sweeney did not clarify which part or, if both, were false.

Shares of Five Below, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FIVE#NASDAQ">FIVE</a>) rose sharply during <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/FIVE">Monday's session</a>.
JP Morgan analyst Matthew Boss upgraded Five Below from Underweight to Neutral and announced a $57 price target.
Five Below shares jumped 10.5% to $62.79 on Monday.

<li>Yalla Group Limited (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/YALA#NASDAQ">YALA</a>) rose 12.1% to $5.22.</li>
<li>AleAnna, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ANNA#NASDAQ">ANNA</a>) gained 12.1% to $9.10.</li>
<li>Telix Pharmaceuticals Limited (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLX#NASDAQ">TLX</a>) gained 11.8% to $15.22. Telix named Paul Schaffer as Chief Technology Officer.</li>
<li>RH (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RH#NYSE">RH</a>) gained 10.9% to $161.61. RH issued clarifications on reciprocal tariffs and fiscal 2025 free cash flow outlook of $250 million to $350 million.</li>
<li>Golden Ocean Group Limited (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOGL#NASDAQ">GOGL</a>) climbed 10.7% to $7.18. Golden Ocean Group named Peder Simonsen as CEO and Randi Navdal Bekkelund as CFO, effective June 1.</li>
<li>Navigator Holdings Ltd. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVGS#NYSE">NVGS</a>) gained 10.5% to $12.07.</li>

Third Point held 6,000,000 shares&nbsp;of TDS as&nbsp;of the fourth quarter of 2024, which is a significant increase from 2,875,000 as of the third quarter of 2024.
Entertainment company Cinemark Holdings Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CNK#NYSE">CNK</a>) shares jumped 44.23% vs. Invesco S&amp;P Smallcap 600 Pure Growth ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RZG#NYSE">RZG</a>), which was up 2.27%, and its peer Walt Disney Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>), which dipped 16.47% in the past year.
