Last week, instant Experts of the Internet took a few minutes off their duties as Global Trade and Monetary Policy Experts to share their insights on the information gleaned from the latest round of 13F filings at the SEC.
The Clickbait Delivery Vehicles masquerading as financial media took a hot second to refrain from delivering forecasts of the financial collapse of the Western world and almost guaranteed strategies for becoming fabulously wealthy by next Tuesday to do the same.
Although more than 6,000 or so money managers, institutions, and hedge funds have over $100 million in assets and are required to file a list of their holdings at the end of every quarter, the media and the Instant Experts will focus on about ten of the best-known investors to deliver their life-changing advice.
I will read the filings from Warren Buffett, Carl Ichan, Seth Klarman and other well-known and ridiculously successful investors to see what they are up to.
I might even build a watch list of a few ideas to put on a market crash watch list.
However, making a practice to steal the same ideas that a few million other people will also be buying creates no edge and little chance of the ever-elusive excess profits which we seek.
I have been perusing 13F filings since the late 1980s. Back in the pre-Internet days, we had to wait until the end of the day (or the weekend) and use the Quotron machine and print the filings out on the dot matrix printers in the back room of the office.
Using them during the day was out of the question as they took forever to print.
We would then go through the filings and compare them to last quarter, using a yellow highlighter to mark changes.
It was a tad tedious but very few people were doing it, and it was wildly profitable to steal ideas from the best investors on the planet.
As time went on, it became easier to access and compare the information and develop ideas.
While one would think that would mean it became more difficult to profit from stock piracy, that never happened.
The same technology that made accessing information easier led to the rise of the instant expert and the soundbite.
You could have made a lot of money over the last couple of decades tracking the holdings of Donald Smith and Company.
The firm is way off the radar screen but has used a deep value investment approach to soundly beat the indexes.
It took more work than logging onto social media or watching market wrap soundbites, but it has paid off with market-beating returns.

Under the Radar: Quiet Portfolios, Loud Returns

Tower Semiconductor Ltd (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSEM#NASDAQ">TSEM</a>) on Wednesday reported <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/05/45408724/tower-semiconductor-stock-dips-despite-q1-revenue-growth-as-margins-squeeze">mixed results for the first quarter</a>.
The company's RF Infrastructure business continued to deliver strong growth driven by dataceter and AI expansions, according to Benchmark.
The Tower Semiconductor Analyst: <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/5e2ae9e3430dee0001c80e0c/cody-acree">Analyst Cody Acree</a> maintained a Buy rating and price target of $60.
The Tower Semiconductor Thesis: The RF Infrastructure business grew from accounting for 14% of the company's revenues last year to 22% in the first quarter, Acree said in the note.

Tower Semiconductor's first-quarter revenues grew to $358.2 million, up 9% year-on-year and 6% sequentially, he added.
The revenues came in-line with expectations due to the high degree of visibility afforded by "virtually 100% of any given quarter booked in the prior periods," the analyst stated. The company's earnings came in at 45 cents per share, beating consensus by 7 cents per share, he said.
"With a high degree of management's enthusiasm regarding its expected continued business momentum, we believe Tower is well positioned to capitalize on what we see as the early days of the next industry upcycle," Acree further wrote.
TSEM Price Action: Shares of Tower Semiconductor had declined by 0.58% to $41.90 at the time of publication on Thursday.

Tower Semiconductor reported a quarterly revenue growth of 9% year-on-year to $358.17 million, compared to the analyst consensus estimate of $358.15 million. The Israel-based contract chipmaker's adjusted EPS of 45 cents beat the analyst consensus estimate of 38 cents.
Tower Semiconductor shares jumped 6.7% to $42.76 on Wednesday.

During the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/02/43593383/tower-semiconductor-q4-earnings-beats-eps-estimates-expands-ai-chip-production-for-2025-growth" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">fourth quarter of 2024</a>, the company discontinued the lower margin legacy of 150mm flows in Fab1, with the last Fab-outs occurring in January 2025.
During the quarter, the company generated $93.92 million in operating cash flow and held $1.18 billion in cash and equivalents.
CEO Russell Ellwanger said, &#8220;Tower Semiconductor delivered continued record revenue in RF infrastructure, including SiPho and SiGe. Throughout the year, it targeted further revenue growth of these technologies, increases in its high-voltage 200mm power management business, and higher revenue levels in its sensors business. Additionally, it entered a new market for Tower, namely envelope trackers, using its 300mm technology platform.&#8221;

Shares of chip stocks are trading higher amid overall market volatility. Stocks across sectors have been volatile on Monday, with tech stocks rebounding following earlier weakness.

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci probably <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/04/44608167/liberation-day-is-liquidation-day-says-anthony-scaramucci-heres-how-it-could-hit-your-wallet">said it the best</a>: "Liberation Day is Liquidation Day." Describing the sweeping wave of new tariffs announced on Wednesday by President Donald Trump, the reciprocal levies are designed to help American workers and revive U.S. manufacturing. 
Unfortunately, the move is creating a ripple effect on pricing implications, badly hurting technology specialists, including integrated circuits manufacturer Tower Semiconductor Ltd (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSEM#NASDAQ">TSEM</a>).
At first glance, Tower doesn't particularly stand out as a tariff-vulnerable candidate. Although based in Israel, the U.S. has a close relationship with the country. According to the New York Times, the two allies have had a free-trade <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/02/us/politics/israel-tariffs-us-imports-trump.html#:~:text=Israel%20and%20the%20United%20States%2C%20two%20close%20allies%2C%20have%20had,American%20products%20from%20Israeli%20tariffs.">agreement</a> since 1985. However, the core issue centers on the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44613907/tariff-shock-incoming-as-trump-prepares-sweeping-trade-duties-what-traders-need-to-know">stability of the global supply chain</a>.
Modern businesses — especially within the advanced semiconductor industry — require specialized parts and materials that are secured months in advance. Further, the research and development of advanced components can take years, requiring significant investments and partnerships across multiple entities. Plus, with so much of the tech ecosystem dependent on Asia, Trump's tariffs darken forward visibility.
More broadly, TSEM stock is also struggling from competitive threats. Earlier this year, China's DeepSeek rattled the tech sector, delivering an artificial intelligence model that could <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43259545/deepseeks-r1-is-impressive-but-openai-ceo-sam-altman-says-they-will-crush-it-with-much-better-models-looking-forward-to-bringing-you-all-agi-and-beyond">compete with western counterparts at a much lower cost</a>. First, Benchmark analyst Cody Acree stated that TSEM stock was one of the names to pick up following January's DeepSeek-inspired rout. The expert noted the company's <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/01/43285482/tower-semiconductor-analyst-sees-attractive-buying-opportunity-following-deepseek-selloff">resilience and growth potential</a>, specifically highlighting its leadership in radio frequency (RF) infrastructure technologies. This innovation is especially critical to applications involving the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Tower's key specialty. Second, while TSEM stock printed the dreaded death cross earlier this week, this technical pattern — where the 50-day moving average slips below the 200 DMA — has historically served as a contrarian indicator. Between August 2015 and October 2022, there have been seven death crosses, with five of the incidences (or 71.4%) resolving to the upside one month later.
To be sure, the sample size is very small, so the implication needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, it's remarkable that even one year removed from the death cross flashing, the contrarian success ratio of 71.4% still stands.

The above transaction involves buying the $30 call (at a time-of-writing ask) of $330 and simultaneously selling the $35 call (at a bid of $45), resulting in a net cash outlay of $285. Should TSEM stock hit or exceed the short strike price at expiration, the maximum reward is the difference between the strike prices (multiplied by 100 shares) minus the cash outlay or $215. This translates to a payout of 75.44%.
For speculators who want to play the death cross, they may consider buying the 35/37 bull spread for the options chain expiring May 16. This options chain provides more time for the market to bake in the negativity before hopefully rising. In the ensuing bounce back, strong double-digit-percentage moves are not unusual; hence, the ambitious but realistic $37 target.
Those who want to roll the dice on the above trade will need to spend $65. On the plus side, if TSEM stock cooperates, the maximum reward is $135 or a payout of nearly 208%.
