Blockchain security firm PeckShield initially <a href="https://x.com/PeckShieldAlert/status/1727286692489679360?s=20">raised </a>the alarm by identifying a transaction in which approximately $19 million worth of 10,145 Ether was moved from the bridge.
This was followed by several other transactions involving digital currencies like USD Coin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/">USDC</a>), Chainlink (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/link/usd">LINK</a>), Shiba Inu (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/">SHIB</a>), and others, being redirected to various addresses.
The HECO Chain, also known as HTX Eco Chain, was established on Dec. 21, 2020.
It emerged from a collaboration between Tron and BitTorrent&rsquo;s bridge ecosystem, aiming to offer a cross-chain platform with reduced gas fees.
In 2022, Sun integrated these two ecosystems into the HECO framework.
This recent security breach in the HECO Chain marks the second major exploit of a Sun-affiliated project in a short period.
Previously, on Nov. 10, Poloniex, an exchange Sun acquired in 2018, was hit by a $100 million exploit. Security experts speculate that this incident could have stemmed from<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/23/11/35723700/poloniexs-120m-heist-justin-sun-vows-action-in-crypto-hack-fallout"> compromised private keys.</a>

HECO Breach Sees $86M In Ether, Shiba Inu Vanish: Tron Will Cover Losses, CEO Says

That&#39;s the case in at least one jurisdiction.
In South Korea, DeSpread Research <a href="https://research.despread.io/di-01/">shows</a> that centralized exchanges&nbsp;&mdash; Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone, and Korbit&nbsp;&mdash; sparked this trend.
Upbit, for example, accounts for about 80% of the Korean crypto exchange market. While globally recognized cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum have vast trading volumes worldwide, they surprisingly have low trading volumes on Upbit.
Instead, the majority of individual investors on Upbit are showing a strong inclination towards altcoins that offer high-profit potential, embracing the associated high risks.
Such coins are often referred to as &quot;Kimchi Coins,&quot; which are predominantly traded by Korean investors and have a niche market within the Upbit platform.
Upbit users also use Tron over Ethereum for deposits and withdrawals, the research shows. Transactions on the Tron network are outpacing those on Ethereum by a factor of 5 due to lower fees and rapid transaction processing.

Daily (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/">USDT</a>) transactions via the Tron network reach up to 2 million, in stark contrast to Ethereum&#39;s roughly 100,000 transactions.
It seems that South Korean investors primarily use the exchanges for crypto trading, accessing products offered by overseas exchanges that are unavailable on Korean centralized platforms, such as futures markets and margin trading.
While the Ethereum network boasts the highest TVL and the most on-chain protocols, Korean investors are more interested in transferring funds between centralized exchanges and local ones <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/23/10/35446939/casa-ceo-warns-of-binances-abnormal-activities-urges-users-to-withdraw-funds">rather than using on-chain products.</a>
The number of crypto investors in South Korea was projected to reach 6 million in the first half of 2023, accounting for over 10% of the nation&#39;s total population.

FTX Liquidations Loom, But Justin Sun Has A Plan

There was a serious security flaw in the TRON (CRYPTO: TRON) blockchain network, according to dWallet Labs&#39; cybersecurity research team, 0d.
The issue, reported on Feb.&nbsp;19, has since been resolved.
What Happened: The vulnerability could have bypassed the multisig security protocols of TRON. As a result, more than $500 million in digital assets held in TRON multisig accounts were threatened.

Why It Matters: TRON is a significant player in the global blockchain arena. It boasts over 144 million users and ranks second to Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) in terms of Total Value Locked (TVL) and stablecoin circulation.
The blockchain network utilizes multisig or Multi-Party Computation (MPC) for creating joint accounts.
In this setup, a threshold of signers is required to approve a transaction, effectively providing enhanced security.
The recently discovered vulnerability exploited an assumption in TRON&#39;s multisig transaction verification process: that there cannot be two different valid signatures for the same message by the same individual. This was proven false in light of TRON&#39;s ECDSA signature scheme.
This flaw could allow the generation of multiple valid signatures for the same message using the same private key.
<h3>0d Suggests Two Attack Scenarios</h3>
<ol>
<li>An attacker with at least one weight permission could execute transactions in every multisig wallet, regardless of the threshold.</li>
<li>An attacker could exploit a transaction partially signed by someone with permissions, but without reaching the threshold.</li>
</ol>
The vulnerability has been addressed by TRON after the report from 0d.
The solution was simple: Checking the signed address against the list of addresses instead of matching the signature against the list of signatures.
This fix effectively secures the TRON blockchain network, protecting the assets of its vast user base.
Meanwhile, a TRON representative <a href="https://www.theblock.co/post/232671/tron-vulnerability-500-million-resolved">told</a> The Block that they indeed received a bug report from HackerOne. The team sprung into action to rectify the issue and implemented the needed fixes to prevent any possible exploitation of the vulnerability.
The detected problem has been successfully dealt with, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/23/05/32401223/tron-cardano-and-sandbox-surge-as-investors-dump-bitcoin">thus reinstating the security of the system</a>.
