Universal Health Services Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UHS#NYSE">UHS</a>), one of the largest healthcare management companies in the U.S., reported second-quarter adjusted earnings of $5.35 per share on Monday.
The company, which oversees hundreds of behavioral health facilities, beat <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the consensus of $4.92</a>.
The King of Prussia, Pennsylvania-based hospital operator reported sales of $4.28 billion, up 9.6% year over year, beating the consensus estimate of $4.24 billion.

During the second quarter of 2025, at acute care hospitals owned during both periods (on the same facility basis), adjusted admissions (adjusted for outpatient activity) increased by 2.0%, while adjusted patient days <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/07/n46673559/universal-health-services-inc-announces-financial-results-for-the-three-and-six-month-periods-ende" rel="noreferrer noopener">increased by 1.1% year over year</a>.
Net revenue per adjusted admission increased by 3.8% while net revenue per adjusted patient day increased by 4.7%.
Net revenues generated from acute care services, on a same facility basis, increased by 7.9%.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Behavioral health care facilities</h2>
During the second quarter of 2025, at behavioral health care facilities on a same-facility basis, adjusted admissions increased by 0.4%, while adjusted patient days increased by 1.2%.
Net revenue per adjusted admission increased by 8.6% and net revenue per adjusted patient day increased by 7.8%.
Net revenues generated from behavioral health care services, on a same facility basis, increased by 8.9%.
Universal Health operates 29 inpatient acute care hospitals and 338 inpatient behavioral health facilities, plus 61 outpatient facilities.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Guidance</h2>
Universal Health Services raised fiscal year 2025 adjusted earnings from $18.45-$19.95&nbsp;per share to&nbsp;$20.00-$21.00, compared to the consensus of&nbsp;$19.68.
The company narrowed 2025 sales&nbsp;guidance&nbsp;from&nbsp;$17.02 billion-$17.36 billion to&nbsp;$17.09 billion-$17.31 billion, versus the consensus of&nbsp;$17.14 billion.
UHS revised its 2025 forecasted adjusted EBITDA to approximately&nbsp;$2.46 billion—$2.543 billion, compared to the prior range of $2.36 billion—$2.48 billion.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Analyst Take</h2>
Guggenheim Partners said adjusted EBITDA-NCI of $643 million beat the consensus estimate of $615 million. However, the company's underlying "core" performance was weaker than expected after removing $101 million in DPP payments not included in the original guidance and a $25 million added headwind from DC hospitals. The shortfall was mainly due to underperformance in the Behavioral segment.
Analyst Jason Cassorla writes, &#8220;However, we believe higher 2025 EBITDA and subsequently FCF likely translates into higher share repurchase, all-else equal, and that leverage at 1.9x gives the company ample flexibility to continue augmenting returns.&#8221;
Analyst Cassorla expects the stock to trade unevenly following the results, despite a ~15% drop in the past two weeks (compared to a 2% gain in the S&amp;P 500) and UHS trading at historically low valuation levels. Investors remain cautious about future growth in the behavioral health segment due to ongoing challenges in patient volumes.

Bank of America Securities analyst Lorraine Hutchinson downgraded Tapestry from Buy to Hold on Tuesday, raising the price forecast from $95 to $115.
Hutchinson observes that while the Coach brand is set to deliver several more quarters of strong growth, the stock's 66% year-to-date rally, far outpacing the S&amp;P's 9%, has brought its valuation close to fair value.

Hutchinson also anticipates a solid fourth quarter, forecasting EPS of 98 cents, matching management's guidance, and expects 5.4% sales growth and a 16.4% operating margin, while noting that a delayed Summer Sale may have boosted late-quarter sales, likely prompting an upbeat tone on the earnings call.
Hutchinson notes that fiscal year 2026 guidance will be closely watched, with expectations for mid-single-digit sales growth and stable margins, balancing tariff-related pressures with some SG&amp;A efficiency.
The analyst highlights that Coach continues to perform well, driven by successful marketing and premium product appeal, but doesn't foresee management forecasting double-digit growth for the brand this year.
While there's room for upside in fiscal year 2026 estimates, the analyst sees limited long-term margin expansion beyond Coach's already elevated 33.6% operating margin.
On tariffs, Hutchinson sees management can maintain profitability over time, though mitigation efforts will take a few quarters to ramp; the analyst projects a 60bp fiscal year 2026 gross margin decline from tariffs, with full recovery by fiscal year 2027, assuming initiatives scale and higher tariff rates accelerate those adjustments.

Why Tapestry Stock Is Cooling Off Despite Coach's Hot Streak

Bausch Health Companies Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BHC#NYSE">BHC</a>) on Tuesday agreed to indirectly acquire DURECT Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DRRX#NASDAQ">DRRX</a>), including a novel <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/health-care" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">therapeutic molecule, larsucosterol</a>.
Larsucosterol, an endogenous sulfated oxysterol and an epigenetic modulator, has demonstrated promising results for alcoholic hepatitis (AH) in Phase 2 trials.
Alcoholic hepatitis is&nbsp;a severe liver inflammation caused by excessive alcohol consumption.&nbsp;It is characterized by the rapid onset of jaundice and liver enlargement.
Bausch Health&#8217;s hepatology development and commercial capabilities are well-suited to support the clinical development and potential commercialization of larsucosterol.
The companies add that there is currently no Food and Drug Administration- or European Medicines Agency-approved treatment for AH.

Bausch Health will pay $1.75 per share in an all-cash transaction for an upfront consideration of approximately $63 million, with the potential for two additional net sales milestone payments of up to $350 million.
A registrational Phase 3 program to evaluate the safety and efficacy of larsucosterol for the treatment of patients with severe AH is being planned.
The trial will be a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multi-center study. The primary endpoint will be 90-day survival.
The trial design will incorporate feedback received from the FDA during a Type B meeting under Breakthrough Therapy Designation and learnings from the prior Phase 2b AHFIRM trial in AH.
The acquisition of the clinical development program for larsucosterol in AH complements the ongoing Bausch Health RED-C clinical program, which is designed to assess the efficacy of a next-generation therapeutic, rifaximin SSD, to delay the onset of first overt hepatic encephalopathy (OHE) hospitalization and all-cause mortality.
Patient enrollment in two global Phase 3 studies is now complete with efficacy and safety results expected to be announced in early 2026.
The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2025.
Last year, Bausch Health <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/24/10/41313679/bausch-lomb-sale-process-gains-momentum-as-tpg-and-blackstone-join-forces" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">was in talks with several</a> private equity firms about selling Bausch + Lomb Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BLCO#NYSE">BLCO</a>).
The Bausch + Lomb spin-off was part of Bausch Health's plan to alleviate its $21 billion debt, a third&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/24/09/40884021/contact-lens-supplier-bausch-lomb-eyes-sale-amid-separation-challenges-as-parent-bausch-health-fac" rel="noreferrer noopener">of which is due by 2027</a>.
