Lithium Americas

Lithium Americas is a pure-play lithium producer. The firm owns 62% of one resource, Thacker Pass, that is located in northwest Nevada, with automaker General Motors owning the remaining 38%. Thacker Pass recently began construction and is expected to begin production in the mid- to late 2020s. Thacker Pass is one of the largest known lithium resources in the world. The project would be the first clay-based asset to enter production, and we estimate it will be in bottom half of the global cost curve. Management plans to develop Thacker Pass into a fully integrated lithium production site, with downstream refining capabilities on site, and will sell into the lithium chemical market.

Shares of On Holding AG (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ONON#NYSE">ONON</a>) were climbing in early trading on Wednesday after the company reported its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/05/45397896/roger-federer-backed-on-holding-jumps-12-as-dtc-sales-soar-sneaker-price-hikes-coming-to-offset-tariffs-and-fuel-premium-growth" target="_blank" rel="noopener">first-quarter results on Tuesday</a>.

KeyBanc Capital Markets Reiterates Overweight
Analyst Ashley Owens reiterated an Overweight rating while raising the price target from $60 to $68.
On Holding delivered a strong beat, with revenue growth of 43% year-on-year, "driven by the successful launches of the Cloudsurfer 2 and Cloud 6, coupled with strong traction in apparel," Owens said in a note. The company's adjusted EBITDA margin expanded by 27 basis points to 16.5%, "driven by improved execution across the supply chain," he added.
Although management raised their full-year guidance, this only reflected the first-quarter beat and left the expectations for the rest of the year unchanged, the analyst stated. On Holding plans product launches and other initiatives, "aiming to increase its differentiation in the footwear space while helping to offset most of the active 10% tariff rates," he wrote.

Needham Comments 
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/5846ee56ee7bf6000154d12e/tom-nikic">Analyst Tom Nikic</a> maintained a Buy rating while lifting the price target from $55 to $62.
On Holding's DTC channel grew by 42% in the quarter, "driven by increased brand awareness and successful new product introductions, along with a resonating apparel offering," Nikic said. The company indicated that trends have remained strong so far in the current quarter, he added.
Management expects the second quarter to be "really strong" for DTC, the analyst stated. "Wholesale accelerated to 39% growth in Q1 (strongest constant-FX growth since 3Q23), and unlike other footwear brands that have called out incremental caution regarding the channel for 2H, ONON has not seen a change in trend in the channel," he wrote.
ONON Price Action: At the time of publication on Wednesday, shares of On Holding had risen by 2.21% to $58.68.

Smartphone makers like Apple Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) are hoping that consumers will trade in their phones for <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/25/04/44850406/apples-foldable-iphone-rumors-gain-steam-as-stock-slides-could-a-2000-device-spark-a-comeback">new ones in the next year</a>, an item that could lock in additional revenue and higher margins.
A new Benzinga poll finds that the percentage of people who have upgraded their phones in the last 12 months is below 50%.
What Happened: Analysts highlight that users upgrading their Apple iPhones could help the technology giant boost <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/05/45152493/apple-reports-strong-q2-earnings-revenue-beat-eps-beat-installed-base-hits-all-time-high-across-all-segments-100-billion-buyback-and-more">its annual revenue</a> after releasing the iPhone 16 in September 2024 and getting ready to release the iPhone 17 in the future.
Benzinga polled readers to find out where they stand in the upgrade cycle.
"Which of the following describes your smartphone currently?" Benzinga asked.
Here were the results:

<li>I own an iPhone and have not gotten a new phone in the last 12 months: 38%</li>
<li>I own an iPhone and got a new phone in the last 12 months: 22%</li>
<li>I own a different smartphone and have gotten a new phone in the last 12 months: 17%</li>
<li>I own a different smartphone and have not gotten a new phone in the last 12 months: 15%</li>
<li>I don't own a smartphone: 8%</li>
</ul>
The poll found that 53.5% of consumers have not upgraded their smartphones in more than 12 months, or an even higher percentage if stripping out the 8% who answered that they don't own a smartphone. The poll found that 38.6% of respondents have upgraded their smartphones in the last 12 months.
Another important finding in the poll was the strong brand power that Apple commands, with 60.4% of the users answering the question saying they own an iPhone.

Why It's Important: The fact that over 50% of users said they have not upgraded their smartphone in more than 12 months could bode well for Apple in the next iPhone release cycle.
Also potentially helping Apple would be the growth of AI features like Apple Intelligence with the iPhone 17. Apple Intelligence released in October 2024, a month after the iPhone 16 released.
While users could upgrade to experience Apple Intelligence, the full benefits of an upgrade cycle may not have been realized by Apple and could be hit with a new iPhone that comes standard with Apple Intelligence features.
Benzinga also asked users which feature is the most important when considering a phone upgrade.
"Which of the following is the most important reason to upgrade to a new phone?" Benzinga asked.
The results were:

<li>Artificial intelligence features: 27%</li>
<li>Better battery life: 26%</li>
<li>Batter camera: 19%</li>
</ul>
The poll found that an outdated phone, which could mean a number of things, is the most important factor when considering an upgrade. Ranking second could be the key for Apple's future success with artificial intelligence features the second-most important reason to upgrade a smartphone.
The study was conducted by Benzinga from May 5, 2025, through May 9, 2025. It included the responses of a diverse population of adults 18 or older. Opting into the survey was completely voluntary, with no incentives offered to potential respondents. The study reflects results from 316 adults.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Big Bet On AI Infrastructure</h2>
The $6 billion raise wasn&#8217;t for buzz—it powered the expansion of &#8220;Colossus,&#8221; xAI&#8217;s supercomputer in Memphis.&nbsp;
Colossus is built with 100,000 Nvidia (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) H100 GPUs and was designed to train xAI&#8217;s large language model, Grok, and is seemingly one of the most powerful AI clusters to date.
Musk&#8217;s ambitions don&#8217;t end there. As reported by the <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/53eeadd8-8fec-4f1b-991e-642e24959e02">Financial Times</a>, Musk already has plans to deploy more than 1 million GPUs, which will require scaling up Colossus. The additional capacity would give xAI a significant edge in the generative AI race, putting it in competition with established players like OpenAI and Anthropic.

Meanwhile, in March, xAI finalized a $33 billion all-stock merger with Musk&#8217;s other venture, X. The combination integrates xAI&#8217;s technology with X&#8217;s social media ecosystem. Musk said in an <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1905731750275510312?lang=en">X post</a> that the move will provide smarter, and more meaningful experiences to billions of people.
It also solidifies xAI's revenue stream, which industry intelligence platform <a href="https://sacra.com/c/xai/">Sacra</a> estimates at about $100 million annually, primarily from X Premium subscriptions and API services.

After running a public<a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1815907844434112999?s=46=PySpYjNmRDrcisnq5IFhJQ"> poll on X</a>, Musk proposed bringing a $5 billion investment from Tesla (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) into xAI to the automaker&#8217;s board.&nbsp;
The poll revealed that 67.9% of voters supported the idea of Tesla investing $5 billion in his artificial intelligence startup, xAI. The initiative could link xAI&#8217;s capabilities directly to Tesla&#8217;s self-driving software and in-vehicle AI systems.
Looking forward, Bloomberg reported that <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/04/44725803/musks-xai-aims-for-1-million-gpus-in-memphis-but-can-the-citys-grid-handle-a-27b-ai-power-surge">xAI</a> is <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-02-14/musk-s-xai-discussing-10-billion-raise-at-75-billion-valuation">seeking </a>to raise an additional $10 billion, potentially pushing its valuation to $75 billion. the funding goal in February and would place xAI in the same financial orbit as top AI labs.
