CNBC Halftime Report Final Trades: Novartis, Amazon, iShares U.S. Financial ETF, Sixth Street Specialty Lending

On CNBC's &#8220;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/video/2025/05/07/final-trades-shake-shack-wynn-resorts-spotify-and-the-iyf.html">Halftime Report Final Trades</a>,&#8221; Joshua Brown, CEO of Ritholtz Wealth Management, said he is bullish on Shake Shack Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SHAK#NYSE">SHAK</a>), which reported quarterly earnings last week. The company will open 40 to 50 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/SHAK/earnings">new company-operated stores this year, he noted.</a>
On May 1, the company reported quarterly adjusted earnings per share of 14 cents, missing the street view of 16 cents. Quarterly sales of $320.90 million (up 10.5%) missed the analyst consensus estimate of $328.08 million.
Jim Lebenthal of Cerity Partners said the international expansion makes Wynn Resorts, Limited (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WYNN#NASDAQ">WYNN</a>) a growth stock.
On the earnings front, Wynn Resorts reported quarterly earnings of $1.07 per share on May 6, which missed the analyst consensus estimate of $1.19 per share. The company also reported quarterly sales of $1.70 billion, which missed the analyst consensus estimate of $1.74 billion.

Shannon Saccocia, chief investment officer of NB Private Wealth, named iShares U.S. Financials ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IYF#NYSE">IYF</a>) as her final trade, saying lack of new regulation is a driver here.

That makes fintech-focused ETFs worth watching, such as:

It has also <a href="https://www.consumerreports.org/consumer-protection/how-cfpb-changes-could-impact-consumers-a2527371632/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">established</a> rules to limit overdraft fees and reduce credit card late fees, aiming to protect consumers from excessive charges.

Regulatory Freeze At CFPB: These ETFs Could Gain As Oversight Weakens

JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>) shares are trading nearly flat premarket after it reported <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/01/b42997622/jpmorganchase-reports-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-2024-financial-results" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">fourth-quarter FY24 results</a>.
Reported revenue&nbsp;rose&nbsp;11% year-on-year to&nbsp;$42.8&nbsp;billion. Net revenue (<a target="_blank" href="https://jpmorganchaseco.gcs-web.com/node/723716/html#a4q24erfexhibit991narrative.htm" rel="noreferrer noopener">managed</a>) was&nbsp;$43.7 billion&nbsp;(+10%&nbsp;Y/Y), beating the&nbsp;consensus of&nbsp;$41.707 billion.
Consumer &amp; Community Banking (CCB) revenue rose 1%&nbsp;Y/Y to&nbsp;$18.362&nbsp;billion, and Commercial &amp; Investment Bank revenue was&nbsp;$17.598&nbsp;billion&nbsp;(+18% Y/Y) in the quarter.
Investment Banking revenue was&nbsp;$2.6&nbsp;billion, up&nbsp;46% Y/Y, in the quarter. Investment Banking fees rose 49% Y/Y, led by higher fees across all products.
Asset and Wealth Management revenue was&nbsp;$5.8&nbsp;billion&nbsp;(+13%&nbsp;Y/Y), and Corporate revenue stood at&nbsp;$2.00&nbsp;billion&nbsp;(+13%&nbsp;Y/Y) in the quarter.
In AWM,&nbsp;Assets under management stood at&nbsp;$4.0&nbsp;trillion, and client assets stood at&nbsp;$5.9&nbsp;trillion&nbsp;(up&nbsp;18%), driven by higher market levels and continued net inflows.
Net interest income fell 3% Y/Y to $23.5 billion in the quarter. Net interest income excluding Markets&nbsp;stood at $23.0 billion, down 2% Y/Y, due to lower rates and deposit margin compression along with lower deposit balances in CCB.&nbsp;
Noninterest revenue was&nbsp;$20.3 billion, up&nbsp;29%&nbsp;Y/Y, in the quarter. Noninterest revenue, excluding Markets,&nbsp;increased 30% Y/Y to $13.7 billion, led by higher asset management fees in AWM and CCB, increased investment banking fees and lower net investment securities losses.
Noninterest expense decreased&nbsp;7%&nbsp;Y/Y to&nbsp;$22.8&nbsp;billion in the quarter. Average loans rose&nbsp;2%&nbsp;Y/Y and up 1% quarter-over-quarter; average deposits were up&nbsp;2%&nbsp;Y/Y and 1% Q/Q.
In CCB, Debit and credit card sales volume increased by&nbsp;8% Y/Y, and active mobile customers were up&nbsp;7%&nbsp;Y/Y.&nbsp;
In CIB, Market revenue rose&nbsp;21% Y/Y, with Fixed Income Markets increasing 20% and Equity Markets up&nbsp;22% in the quarter.
JPM&#8217;s provision for credit losses was&nbsp;$2.6 billion&nbsp;(-5%&nbsp;Y/Y), including net charge-offs of&nbsp;$2.4&nbsp;billion&nbsp;and a net reserve build of&nbsp;$267 million.&nbsp;
Net income rose 50% Y/Y to&nbsp;$14.0&nbsp;billion&nbsp;in the quarter. EPS of&nbsp;$4.81 exceeded&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">the consensus of&nbsp;$4.11</a>.
The CET1 capital ratio stood at&nbsp;15.7%, and the advanced CET1 capital ratio was&nbsp;15.8%. The bank&#8217;s capital distributions included a dividend per share of&nbsp;$1.25&nbsp;and $4.0 billion of common stock net repurchases.
<a target="_blank" href="https://www.jpmorganchase.com/content/dam/jpmc/jpmorgan-chase-and-co/investor-relations/documents/quarterly-earnings/2024/4th-quarter/9aff0e71-2b8c-4f41-ac93-8da74c263894.pdf" rel="noreferrer noopener">Outlook</a>: JPMorgan expects FY25 net interest income,&nbsp;excluding Markets, of ~$90 billion and project card&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">services NCO rate of ~3.60%.</a>
Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO, said, &#8220;The U.S. economy has been resilient. Unemployment remains relatively low, and consumer spending stayed healthy, including during the holiday season. Businesses are more optimistic about the economy, and they are encouraged by expectations for a more pro-growth agenda and improved collaboration between government and business.&#8221;
&#8220;However, two significant risks remain. Ongoing and future spending requirements will likely be inflationary, and therefore, inflation may persist for some time. Additionally, geopolitical conditions remain the most dangerous and complicated since World War II.&#8221;

JPMorgan Chase Q4 Earnings: Investment Banking Revenue Jumps 46%, CEO Jamie Dimon Says 'Inflation May Persist For Some Time'

<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/airlines" rel="noreferrer noopener">Earlier this week</a> at CES 2025, Delta Air Lines, Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DAL#NYSE">DAL</a>) demonstrated Delta Concierge, an AI-powered digital tool that will add advanced capabilities to its Fly Delta app <a target="_blank" href="https://news.delta.com/delta-unveils-ai-powered-travel-journey-new-multi-modal-transportation-options" rel="noreferrer noopener">beginning in 2025</a>.
The airline also announced &#8216;multi-modal&#8217; transportation options offered through Delta partners Uber Technologies, Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UBER#NYSE">UBER</a>) and Joby Aviation, Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JOBY#NYSE">JOBY</a>).&nbsp;
The airline added Delta Concierge to the Fly Delta app for a seamless, personalized travel experience that leverages generative AI.&nbsp;

At CES in 2020, Delta previewed its &#8216;concierge&#8217; concept. Delta also previewed new partnerships with&nbsp;Uber and&nbsp;Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOG#NASDAQ">GOOG</a>) (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOGL#NASDAQ">GOOGL</a>) YouTube, including its expectations from its&nbsp;Joby partnership.&nbsp;
Delta is striving to build customer loyalty using data and AI. The AI assistant will work to create time-saving efficiencies, including notifying customers about passport expiration, visa requirements, weather updates, and wayfinding at unfamiliar airports.
In the future, Delta Concierge will enable customers to automatically connect to Delta Sync Wi-Fi and Delta Sync seatback, the airline&#8217;s personalized in-flight entertainment experience.
Delta also outlined a multimodal future of travel in which a single customer itinerary will be connected from start to finish through deep partner integrations. The Delta-Uber partnership will allow customers to earn miles for eligible rides and deliveries.
Delta Concierge will also connect with Joby&#8217;s&nbsp;electric air taxi&nbsp;service. Delta and Joby announced their alliance in 2022 and expect to begin operating in Delta&#8217;s New York and Los Angeles hubs.
B Of A Securities&#8217; Andrew G. Didora <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42824930/bofa-expects-deltato-maintain-10-eps-growth-in-2025-sees-strong-q4-result" rel="noreferrer noopener">raised estimates for</a> Delta ahead of its fourth-quarter print. Didora raised the quarterly revenue growth estimate to 4.3% (prior 3.6%), versus the 2%-4% outlook. He expects EPS of $1.78 versus the guidance of $1.60-$1.85.
Morgan Stanley&#8217;s Ravi Shankar maintained&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/travel/24/12/42450095/us-airlines-set-to-fly-high-in-2025-analyst-says-perfect-storm-of-tailwinds-will-propel-industry-gains" rel="noreferrer noopener">a bullish outlook</a> on the airline industry. The analyst flagged how airlines like Delta reaped the benefits of &#8220;the premiumization trend,&#8221; backed by loyalty programs, credit cards, and brand partnerships. Goldman Sachs&#8217; Catherine O&#8217;Brien <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/11/42119662/goldman-sachs-analyst-sees-delta-eps-soaring-to-950-by-fy26-details" rel="noreferrer noopener">also voiced similar</a> sentiments.
Delta chief Ed Bastian&nbsp;had signaled <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/24/11/42106369/delta-chief-says-trump-could-be-a-breath-of-fresh-air-for-aviation-industry" rel="noreferrer noopener">positive regulatory changes</a> for the industry under Donald Trump&#8217;s presidency.
Delta stock surged over 45% in the last 12 months. One of the most critical tailwinds was the de-inversion of the U.S. yield curve. Other sectors that Georgiou prefers, include energy. According to him &#8220;deregulation supporting oil production and geopolitical risks could sustain elevated oil prices and relative valuations are attractive.&#8221;
Even though the energy sector has underperformed the broader markets in 2024, &#8220;fundamentally, companies are shareholder friendly with 8-12% shareholder yields, have strong balance sheets with low net debt to EBITDA ratios and high free cash flow yields of 6.50% and above,&#8221; he adds.
Invesco S&amp;P 500 Equal Weight ETF (ACRA: RSP), iShares Russell 1000 Value ETF (ACRA: IWD), Vanguard High Dividend Yield Index ETF (ACRA: VYM) and ProShares S&amp;P 500 Ex-Energy ETF (ACRA: SPXE) have all underperformed the S&amp;P 500 on a year-to-date basis.

"Markets initially got this wrong, driving stocks up sharply right after Nov. 5,&#8221; he added.
However, Georgiou is &#8220;cautiously optimistic&#8221; about the markets, he said &#8220;a neutral to fully invested equity allocation is warranted, with a focus on sectors benefiting from Trump's policies, whilst always maintaining our core investment principles, which is a focus on fundamentals, quality, and risk management.&#8221;

The U.S. Justice Department's Antitrust Division and the Department of Transportation announced on Thursday they have opened a broad public inquiry into the state of competition in air travel on topics including previous airline mergers, aircraft manufacturing, airline ticket sales, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/24/09/40745931/delta-southwest-and-other-airlines-in-hot-waters-with-us-transportation-department-for-unfair-reward">pricing and rewards practices</a>.
The Details: The agencies <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-and-department-transportation-launch-broad-public-inquiry-state">have issued</a> a Request for Information (RFI) and seek the public's input on anticompetitive conduct, consolidation and issues affecting the availability and affordability of air travel options.&nbsp;
"Competition in air travel is a vehicle for better quality, better fares and better choices for Americans," said Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter of the Justice Department's Antitrust Division.
"With this inquiry, we hope to learn more from the businesses and travelers at the center of this essential industry. Their feedback will ensure the Justice Department can continue to build on its historic efforts to protect competition in air travel," Kanter added.&nbsp;

The U.S. Travel Association reacted to the DOJ's public inquiry into competition in air travel, which it sees as politically motivated.&nbsp;
"Today's announcement by the Departments of Transportation and Justice that they will launch ‘broad inquiries' into airline business practices is another in a long line of disappointing political stunts," the U.S. Travel Association said <a href="https://www.ustravel.org/press/us-travel-reacts-doj-dot-inquiry-air-travel-competition">in a statement</a>.
DOJ Cracks Down: Under the Biden administration, the DOJ has cracked down on industry consolidation and mergers and successfully blocked <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/03/37455281/jetblue-spirit-airlines-shares-are-moving-monday-whats-going-on">the merger</a> of JetBlue Airways Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JBLU#NASDAQ">JBLU</a>) and Spirit Airlines, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SAVE#NASDAQ">SAVE</a>) earlier this year.  
Spirit Airlines continues to face financial trouble and a potential bankruptcy after the deal with JetBlue fell through. Earlier this week, it was reported the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/m-a/24/10/41496171/whats-going-on-with-spirit-airlines-stock-wednesday"> airline had resumed</a> preliminary merger discussions with Frontier Group Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ULCC#NASDAQ">ULCC</a>). The potential merger of the two airlines would likely coincide with Spirit's restructuring of its debt and other liabilities in bankruptcy and could be affected by actions resulting from the DOJ's latest inquiry. 
Last month, the DOT launched an inquiry into whether the loyalty programs of the four largest U.S. airlines have engaged in unfair, deceptive or noncompetitive practices. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg sent a letter to American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DAL#NYSE">DAL</a>), United Airlines and Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LUV#NYSE">LUV</a>) requesting records and reports related to the airlines&#8217; loyalty programs, practices and policies.
Federal agencies did allow a merger between Hawaiian Holdings, Inc. and Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ALK#NYSE">ALK</a>) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/24/08/40455513/alaska-airlines-hawaiian-airlines-1-9b-merger-gets-doj-green-light-awaits-transportation-department">to be completed</a> in September. However, the DOT required the companies to agree to a set of consumer protections before giving the deal the green light. 
Why It Matters: Other companies in the airline industry may be affected by the joint inquiry announced Thursday, including planemaker Boeing Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>) and parts supplier Spirit Aerosystems Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPR#NYSE">SPR</a>). Investors can monitor the effects on the industry through airline-focused ETFs, including the U.S. Global Jets ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JETS#NYSE">JETS</a>) and the iShares Trust iShares U.S. Transportation ETF (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IYT#BATS">IYT</a>).
