President Donald Trump has set up a new body within the Commerce Department to manage the CHIPS and Science Act, 2022. 
What Happened: A new entity, the United States Investment Accelerator within the Commerce Department, will now oversee the CHIPS Act program, as established by an executive order signed by Trump on Monday.
Despite Trump&#8217;s past criticism of the bipartisan legislation, the White House said in its fact sheet that the new office will focus on &#8220;negotiating much better CHIPS Act deals&#8221; and streamlining investment processes through reduced regulatory burdens and faster permitting.
According to the <a href="https://www.semiconductors.org/chip-supply-chain-investments/">Semiconductor Industry Association</a>, the CHIPS Program has granted awards worth $32.5417 billion and provided loans up to $5.85 billion to 32 companies across 23 states. 
However, the new entity — Investment Accelerator that will be controlling the CHIPS Act, not only plans to expedite corporate investments but promises to deliver &#8221; the benefit of the bargain for taxpayers,&#8221; as per the Whit House fact sheet.
Other primary goals of the body include;

Why It Matters: Trump has been vocal about his criticism of the CHIPS Act. On March 4, during his joint address to Congress, he said, &#8220;Your Chips Act is a horrible, horrible thing.&#8221;
He also urged U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson to &#8220;get rid&#8221; of it and use &#8220;whatever is left over&#8221; to &#8220;reduce debt or any other reason you want to.&#8221;
However, the White House&#8217;s new plan has passed on the management of the act to the new entity. Since his time in office, Trump has been able to convince companies to invest in the U.S.
In early March, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (NYSE: TSM revealed its plans to inject another $100 billion into U.S. advanced semiconductor manufacturing, significantly expanding its ongoing $65 billion Arizona initiative and bringing total investment to $165 billion.
Similarly, the Magnificent 7 companies are widely expected to spend more than $330 billion on capex in 2025. While the chipmaker Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) hasn't explicitly mentioned a target during its earnings call, the iPhone maker Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) broadly expects to spend $500 billion over the next four years. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CAT#NYSE">CAT</a>) up 0.70%, and Visa Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/V#NYSE">V</a>) which report after closing bell was up 0.91%.</li>

Commodities, Gold And Global Equity Markets:
Crude oil futures were trading lower in the early New York session by 0.67% to hover around $72.13 per barrel.
The gold spot index was up by 0.64% to $2,777.47 per ounce. The Dollar Index was down 0.01% at 107.989 level.
Asian markets were higher on Thursday as Australia's ASX 200, Japan's Nikkei 225, South Korea's Kospi, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose. European markets were also higher in trade.

US Stocks Set For Gains Ahead Of Q1 GDP, Apple Earnings: Expert Says 'Higher January' Bodes Well For The Rest Of The Year

The CNN Money Fear and Greed index showed a decline in the overall market sentiment, while the index remained in the &#8220;Neutral&#8221; zone on Wednesday.
U.S. stocks settled lower on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged at its recent policy meeting.
NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) shares fell over 4% on Wednesday amid reports indicating Trump officials have discussed further curbing China sales.
General Dynamics Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GD#NYSE">GD</a>) reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter fiscal 2024 results. Corning Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLW#NYSE">GLW</a>) posted better-than-expected fourth-quarter financial results and also issued first-quarter core EPS guidance with a midpoint above estimates.
On the economic data front, the U.S. trade deficit in goods increased to a record $122.11 billion in December versus a revised $103.5 billion gap in the prior month. U.S. wholesale inventories declined by 0.5% month-over-month to $898 billion in December following a revised 0.1% fall in the previous month and versus market estimates of a 0.2% gain.
Most sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a negative note, with information technology, real estate, and healthcare stocks recording losses on Wednesday. However, consumer staples and communication services stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session higher.
The Dow Jones closed lower by around 137 points to 44,713.52 on Wednesday. The S&amp;P 500 fell 0.47% to 6,039.31, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.51% at 19,632.32 during Wednesday's session.
