<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Do You Really Need The Truck?</h2>
Sethi angled some of the discussion specifically to people who buy trucks. He mentioned someone who earns $65,000 per year and bought a $90,000 truck with a loan. Sethi said that the person can't afford the truck even though the monthly loan payments fit in the budget.
The issue with using monthly loan payments in this way is that it takes up space in your monthly budget for multiple years. That's several years of not being able to invest that money or use it to cover expenses. Sethi explained that he's had many conversations with people who are in financial trouble because of their trucks and SUVs, but he then pondered if those individuals really need those vehicles.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Interest Will Accumulate In Long-Term Loans</h2>
Most people need loans to buy homes and cars, but considering how interest accumulates in lengthy loans can make you think twice before buying something that you can't afford. All loans are amortized so that the bulk of your initial payments go toward interest.
Sethi explains that you can end up paying thousands of additional dollars by taking out a lengthy auto loan. While 30-year mortgages are the norm for homes, most people shouldn't be taking out seven-year auto loans.
You can find more affordable cars in the used car market and end up with a loan that has fewer years on it. Car dealers want you to think about covering something within your monthly budget because they can then have you commit to a long-term loan that has lower monthly payments. Strategy Launches $4.2 Billion Offering To Fuel Further Bitcoin Accumulation

President Donald Trump sent markets into a tailspin Monday after officially announcing sweeping 25% tariffs on all imports from Japan and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">South Korea, starting Aug. 1. </a>
The new tariffs apply to all goods from the two Asian economies and are in addition to any existing sector-specific duties.
The new 25% tariffs follow earlier duties set on April 2 — 24% for Japan and 25% for South Korea — after the U.S. claimed trade barriers and currency practices raised effective rates to 46% and 50%, respectively. The hike comes after a 90-day negotiation window, announced April 9, which expired without deals.
In official letters sent to both governments, Trump said the tariffs are necessary to correct "unsustainable trade deficits" caused by "years of tariff and non-tariff policies and trade barriers." He added that any goods transshipped to evade the duties will be charged the higher rate.
Trump emphasized the measure was moderate, saying the 25% rate is "far less than what is needed to eliminate the trade deficit disparity." He also invited Japanese and South Korean firms to move production to the U.S., promising quick and professional regulatory approvals.
Trump stated that if trading partners were to raise their own tariffs, the U.S. would match that increase by adding the same percentage to its newly announced 25% tariff rate.
Earlier in the week, U.S. officials a separate deadline for reaching a deal with the European Union — before EU goods are subjected to duties of up to 50% — was set for Wednesday.

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Stocks Slip, Dollar Rallies After Sweeping Tariffs</h1>
By midday trading in New York, the S&amp;P 500 dropped 0.9% to 6,220 points, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled 1.1%, losing more than 450 points to 44,320.
The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) — also known as the market&#8217;s fear gauge — rallied 11%. Each S&amp;P 500 sector traded in the red with cyclical stocks underperforming. Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) was the worst performer in both the S&amp;P 500 and the Nasdaq 100.
The EV giant sank 7.4% after Elon Musk announced the launch of the America Party, a new political movement aimed at challenging both Democrats and Republicans over federal spending in Washington. 
In currency markets, the U.S. dollar index surged 0.6%, marking its strongest session in nearly three weeks, as investors fled to the greenback amid rising global uncertainty.
The greenback jumped over 1% against the Japanese yen and gained 1.2% against the South Korean won.
U.S. Treasury yields moved higher, with the 10-year bond yield climbing four basis points to 4.39%. Higher tariffs typically stoke inflation fears, which in turn can pressure bond prices and lift yields.
Gold pared earlier losses, buoyed by demand for safe-haven assets in the face of rising trade tensions.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) edged down 0.7% to $108,000, extending its streak to 46 consecutive sessions without breaking its all-time high of $112,000.

This significant drop is accompanied by an exceptionally high trading volume of 9.9 million shares, vastly exceeding its average daily volume of 251.9K, according to data from <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/feature/newsfeed">Benzinga Pro</a>.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Happened?</h2>
The company reported updated data from the BEACON Phase 1b/2a study of subcutaneous briquilimab in adult chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) participants and provided an update on the program. Primary measurements used to assess clinical activity were the sum of the Hives Severity Score and the daily Itch Severity Score (ISS), as measured via the Urticaria Activity Score over 7 days (UAS7) on a 0 to 42-point scale.
Briquilimab administration resulted in disease control in the 240mg and 360mg single-dose cohorts.
Eight of nine (89%) participants enrolled across both cohorts achieved a complete response, and seven of nine (78%) achieved a clinical response by week 2.
Reductions in UAS7 scores were reported with a mean change from baseline at 4 weeks of 28.3 points in the 240mg single-dose cohort and 22.9 points in the 360mg single-dose cohort.
In addition, BEACON participants who rolled over into the open-label extension study dosing at 180mg Q8W demonstrated clinical efficacy with 8 of 11 (73%) participants achieving a complete response at 12 weeks.
Results from the 240mg Q8W and the 240mg followed by 180mg Q8W dose cohorts appear to be confounded by an issue with one drug product lot used in those cohorts, with 10 of the 13 patients dosed with drug from the lot in question.
The company is investigating the drug product lot in question. It expects to have the investigation results in the coming weeks.
Key observations noted in those 10 patients were lower than expected drops in mean tryptase levels and no discernable impact on UAS7 scores. The 2 participants enrolled in the cohorts that have been confirmed as being dosed with drug product from a different lot both achieved complete response.
The company also plans to enroll an additional 10-12 patients across the 240mg Q8W and the 240mg followed by 180mg Q8W cohorts to ensure a robust data set to inform the Phase 2b CSU study.
Data from the additional BEACON patients is expected in the fourth quarter of 2025, and commencement of the Phase 2b study is now expected in mid-2026.
The company has also determined that the drug product lot in question was used to treat participants enrolled in the ETESIAN trial evaluating briquilimab in asthma.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why It Matters?</h2>
To focus resources on advancing briquilimab in CSU, the company is halting the asthma study and pausing development.
In addition, the company is halting development in SCID and will implement several other cost-cutting measures, including a potential restructuring, to extend the runway and reduce expenses.
Briquilimab treatment also resulted in deep and durable disease control in the open-label extension study evaluating briquilimab at 180mg Q8W, with 8 of 11 participants (73%) achieving a complete response at the week 12 assessment.
Substantial reductions in tryptase were observed as early as the week 1 assessment and were correlated with the onset of clinical responses. Tryptase levels below the lower limit of quantification were reported for 8 of 10 (80%) participants across the 240mg and 360mg single-dose cohorts.
Briquilimab was tolerated well in the BEACON study and the open-label extension, with no dose-limiting toxicities observed.

We&#8217;ll dive into how this technical analysis tool works and how it can be applied to identify opportunities in systematic trading. Specifically, we&#8217;ll focus on the energy futures sector, looking at Crude Oil (CL), Heating Oil (HO), Natural Gas (NG), and RBOB Gasoline (RB). These financial instruments are listed on the NYMEX (New York Mercantile Exchange) and are known for their trend-following behavior. <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Building a Trend-Following Strategy with the Price Channel</h2>
Let&#8217;s start by testing a trend-following strategy, which intuitively aligns well with this type of channel: we&#8217;ll buy when the price hits the upper band and sell when it hits the lower band, expecting the price to continue moving in the same direction. Furthermore, once these levels are reached, the position will be reversed, from long to short and vice versa.
This strategy will be applied to a portfolio composed of the previously listed energy futures, using a 60-minute timeframe. For the calculation of the indicator, we&#8217;ll use the default setting found on most platforms: 20 bars. To run the backtest and ensure the platform functions correctly, we&#8217; ll set an initial portfolio capital of $1,000,000 for academic purposes only.
Backtest Results: Price Channel Trend-Following Strategy on Energy Futures
Analyzing the backtest results from January 1, 2010, we observe, as shown in Figure 2, an excellent initial performance, particularly considering the consistency of the equity curve. Despite the simplicity of the strategy, it has generated a net profit of just over $1,000,000 over the years, with a relatively low drawdown of only $96,000.

Figure 4 shows that this strategy produced profits across all four futures included in the test. The results were especially strong on Heating Oil and RBOB Gasoline futures, though the other two also delivered positive returns, confirming the trend-following nature of these instruments.

However, looking at the Total Trade Analysis (Figure 5), and more specifically at the average trade of the strategy applied to the portfolio, we find a value of just $89. This is clearly insufficient to cover the commission costs and slippage associated with trading these instruments.

Optimizing Price Channel Settings for Best Performance
We initially used a 20-period setting to calculate the upper and lower bands of the Price Channel, as this is the default value on most trading platforms. Now, let&#8217;s evaluate through an optimization process whether 20 is truly the most effective setting, or if other values could yield better results.
As shown in Figure 6, which illustrates the results of optimizations ranging from 10 to 50 periods in steps of 5, we can observe a decline in net profit as the Price Channel period increases across this basket of futures.

This decline is at least partially due to the reduced number of trades executed with longer periods. However, when using values up to 40, the results remain satisfactory overall. Period settings of 10 and 25 seem to offer viable alternatives, but they don&#8217;t outperform the 20-period setting used in the earlier backtest, which shows the best net profit of all.
How to Improve Strategy Performance Using the ADX Filter
At this stage of development, we&#8217;ll try adding an operational filter to improve the strategy&#8217;s average trade value, which, as noted earlier, is currently too low to make the strategy viable for live trading.
The idea is to introduce a condition that allows trades only during phases when breakouts are likely to be more effective, thus reducing the number of false signals. To do this, we&#8217;ll use the ADX (Average Directional Index), one of the most well-known indicators for measuring trend strength.
The ADX is a technical analysis indicator that estimates the strength of a market&#8217;s directionality, regardless of whether it&#8217;s bullish or bearish. It ranges from 0 to 100: lower values indicate a non-directional (sideways) market, while higher values suggest a strong trend.
In this case, we'll use the ADX calculated over 5 daily bars, equivalent to one trading week, and we&#8217;ll only open new positions if the ADX is below 30. This helps us target periods where the market hasn&#8217;t shown strong directional movement recently. The absence of a clear trend could indicate that a new directional phase is about to begin, which our system will attempt to capture with a breakout-based entry.
It&#8217;s important to note that this condition will be applied only at the entry of a trade, not at the exit. That&#8217;s because the strategy is designed to use breakout levels as the sole exit criteria, to avoid getting stuck in unprofitable trades due to overly restrictive filters.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Performance of the Trend-Following Strategy on Energy Futures with the Addition of a Filter</h2>
After introducing the ADX as an operational filter, we observe a clear improvement in the strategy, as evidenced by the equity line in Figure 7, which appears more stable and linear, particularly in the latter part of the backtest.

As shown in the report in Figure 8, the total net profit comes in at around $541,000, lower than the version without the operational filter. However, the maximum drawdown is also lower, at approximately $64,500.

Looking at the average trade in Figure 9, we see a significant improvement: the average trade value rises to around $134, compared to $89 in the previous version. This is a very encouraging figure, as it indicates that using the ADX as a filter helps avoid many false signals and allows the system to focus on conditions more favorable for breakouts.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Is the Price Channel Effective for Energy Futures? Key Takeaways</h2>
At this point, there are several ways to further improve the strategy. One option could be to introduce a stop loss to enhance risk management. Although the Price Channel levels are already used as exit points, they can sometimes be quite far from the trade&#8217;s entry price, potentially leading to excessive losses. These could be better managed by applying a stop loss. Alternatively, one could optimize the ADX threshold used as a filter.
In any case, the Price Channel proves to be a valuable tool for building automated trading strategies. While the average trade value is still at the edge of what's acceptable for a complete strategy, we&#8217;ve seen that with the right adjustments, this indicator can be used effectively, especially in certain markets.
