Chevron U.S.A. Inc., a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>), has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/03/b44576082/chevron-announces-sale-of-majority-interest-in-its-east-texas-gas-assets" rel="noreferrer noopener">finalized a deal to sell a 70% stake</a> in its East Texas natural gas assets to TG Natural Resources LLC (TGNR), an entity backed by Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. and Castleton Commodities International LLC (CCI).
The transaction, valued at $525 million, includes $75 million in cash and $450 million allocated as a capital carry to finance Haynesville development.
Following the sale, Chevron will maintain a 30% non-operating working interest in a joint venture with TGNR, along with an overriding royalty interest in the assets.

Tokyo Gas holds approximately 93% of TGNR, while CCI owns the remaining 7%.
The agreement is expected to yield over $1.2 billion in value for Chevron based on current Henry Hub prices. This estimate stems from a blend of the capital carry, retained ownership stake, and overriding royalty interest.
The deal&#8217;s structure enables Chevron to maintain future growth potential while accelerating asset development through an efficient capital approach.
The asset sale aligns with Chevron&#8217;s broader plan to streamline its global energy portfolio. The company has set a target of divesting $10-15 billion worth of assets by 2028.
Chevron focuses on producing oil and gas, refining fuels, and advancing industry technologies and aims to expand its traditional energy operations while reducing carbon emissions and investing in renewables, carbon capture, hydrogen, and emerging technologies.
Price Action: CVX shares are trading lower by 0.26% at $166.85 in premarket at last check Tuesday.

Chevron U.S.A. Inc., a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation announced that it has closed on a transaction to sell a 70% interest in its East Texas gas assets to an affiliate of TG Natural Resources LLC ("TGNR"), a company indirectly owned by Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. ("Tokyo Gas") and Castleton Commodities International LLC ("CCI"), for $525 million, with $75 million paid in cash and $450 million as a capital carry to fund Haynesville development. Chevron will retain a 30% non-operated working interest in a joint venture with TGNR and an overriding royalty interest in the assets. Tokyo Gas and CCI own an approximate 93% and 7% interest in TGNR, respectively.

The <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/s-p-500">S&amp;P 500 had</a> a rough start to 2025, sinking 6.53% over the first quarter, but not every sector suffered the same fate.

Oil and gas stocks came out swinging, with Hess Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HES#NYSE">HES</a>) leading the charge, soaring 21.34% over the past three months. EQT Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EQT#NYSE">EQT</a>) followed closely, rising 19.61%, while Devon Energy Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DVN#NYSE">DVN</a>) and Coterra Energy (CTRA) also <a href="https://www.sectorspdrs.com/sectortracker">posted</a> double-digit gains. 
The biggest energy players, Chevron Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>) and Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>), delivered solid performances as well, gaining 15.34% and 10.57%, respectively.

Auto parts retailers proved surprisingly resilient, with O'Reilly Automotive Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ORLY#NASDAQ">ORLY</a>) accelerating 17.64% and AutoZone Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AZO#NYSE">AZO</a>) climbing 16.33%. Yum! Brands Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/YUM#NYSE">YUM</a>), the parent company of Taco Bell and KFC, also managed a 15.18% gain, proving that fast food remains a winning bet even in choppy markets.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Tech's Tough Quarter—But Some Shined</h2>
Tech stocks had a miserable run, but a few managed to buck the trend. VeriSign Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VRSN#NASDAQ">VRSN</a>) surged 23.03%, leading the charge, while Intel Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>) and Roper Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ROP#NASDAQ">ROP</a>) gained 11.87% and 11.21%, respectively. IBM (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IBM#NYSE">IBM</a>) also posted a solid 9.53% gain, and Palantir Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLTR#NASDAQ">PLTR</a>) continued its momentum, adding 8.56%.

Chevron, Exxon, Hess Lead As Tech Giants Stumble In Q1 2025

President Donald Trump has expressed fury over recent remarks by Russian President Vladimir Putin suggesting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy should be replaced. 
What Happened: In a weekend interview, Trump said he was "very angry" and warned of economic retaliation if Russia fails to cooperate on halting the Ukraine war.
Putin proposed a transitional government for Ukraine, which would effectively push out Zelenskyy. Trump, in response, threatened to impose sweeping &#8220;secondary tariffs&#8221; on any country purchasing Russian oil, including a 25% to 50% tariff on Russian crude and related products.
Trump made Ukraine a centerpiece of his foreign policy agenda and has pushed for an end to the war. His team helped broker a partial ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, allowing safe passage in the Black Sea and a halt on attacks targeting energy infrastructure. But tensions with Moscow remain high.

"If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia's fault — which it might not be — but if I think it was Russia's fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia," Trump <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-angry-putin-zelenskyy-iran-sanctions-rcna198729">told </a>to NBC News.
Despite previous criticism of Zelenskyy, Trump signaled he would act against Putin if diplomacy fails. He also said he plans to speak with Putin again this week. "The anger dissipates quickly… if he does the right thing," Trump said, describing their relationship as "very good."
Trump said he also "was pissed off" about Putin's comments about temporary governance and that his anger about Putin's comments had been made known to Moscow.
Trump's tariff threats echo a similar strategy he applied to Venezuela, where countries importing oil from Caracas risked U.S. trade penalties. The same could apply to top buyers of Russian oil such as China, India, Turkey, and Brazil.

Last month, someone asked income investors on r/Dividends — a Reddit community with 690,000 members — whether it was realistic to live off dividends and how much investment is needed to reach at least $50,000 in annual dividend income. The question also asked Redditors to share how long it takes for the average investor to reach a dividend income that covers basic expenses.
The question received hundreds of comments, but one story caught our eye.
An investor said he was making $175,000 a year in dividends and retired two years ago at the age of 48.
"I'm still not touching them, especially now. I have a small passive business that generates enough to cover my expenses. I've recently gone about 1/3 short term government bonds because I'm VERY worried about a recession," he said.

Wood Mackenzie estimates total U.S. electricity consumption will soar from 4,000 TWh in 2024 to 6,000 TWh by 2050. Of that, between 395 and 660 TWh could be consumed by data centers alone by 2035—more than 10% of total power usage.
The fast pace of AI deployment is leaving little room for slow build-outs of renewable energy or long-term infrastructure upgrades. That's where natural gas steps in.
"Gas will certainly get its share of the new AI-driven power demand given its reliability, which is a must for these facilities," said Patrick Rau, senior vice president of strategy and research at Natural Gas Intelligence, according to the report.
Natural gas provides firm and flexible power, a critical advantage for hyperscale data centers that operate 24/7. Rau said the key bottleneck is how quickly new gas-fired capacity can come online.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Utilities And Oil Giants Jump In</h3>
Power producers are already rushing to meet the call. NRG Energy Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NRG#NYSE">NRG</a>) is fast-tracking 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of gas-fired projects in Texas. CEO Larry Coben said the company has signed multiple letters of intent with data center developers and is advancing 10 natural gas plants totaling about 8 GW in generation capacity.
In February, NRG also partnered with GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GEV#NYSE">GEV</a>) and construction firm Kiewit Corp. to develop up to 5.4 GW of new capacity explicitly linked to AI data centers.
Other utilities are following suit. American Electric Power Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AEP#NASDAQ">AEP</a>) is weighing $10 billion in potential investments to meet what it calls "incremental load," largely driven by AI, manufacturing reshoring and general economic development. The company already has customer commitments for 20 GW of additional load by 2030 across its 11-state footprint.
Oil giant Chevron Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>) is another unexpected entrant in the AI race. In partnership with investor Engine No. 1 and GE Vernova, the energy giant plans to build co-located power plants across the Midwest, Southeast and West to support data centers with dedicated energy generation.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Will DeepSeek Reduce AI Data Centers Demand?</h3>
Chinese AI company DeepSeek has introduced a platform that claims to rival current models in performance—at a fraction of the power cost. That innovation, while promising, may add another twist to the AI power narrative.
"DeepSeek's improved computational efficiency may provide a pathway to quell hyperscalers' power requirement," according to a recent report by Rystad Energy experts.
"But it could also escalate the AI arms race and compel companies toward more power-intensive innovation."
For now, the message from the grid is clear: keep the pipelines flowing and the turbines spinning at full throttle.

Chevron has increased its dividends consecutively for the last 37 years. In its latest dividend hike announcement on Jan. 31, its board raised the quarterly payout by 5% to $1.71 per share, which is equal to an annual figure of $6.84 per share. Currently, the dividend yield is 4.15%.
The company&#8217;s annual revenue as of Dec. 31 stood at $193.41 billion. According to its latest earnings release on Jan. 31, Chevron posted Q4 2024 revenues of $52.23 billion, above the consensus estimate of $48.41 billion, while EPS of $2.06 missed the consensus of $2.11.

How Chevron, Best Buy, And IDACORP Can Put Cash In Your Pocket

April tends to be a favorable month for U.S. equities, and history makes a compelling case for this. Over the past 95 years, the S&amp;P 500 has gained an average of 1.1% in April, finishing <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">higher 61% of the time.</a>
In April, the index notched some of its most powerful monthly rallies in history, surging 43.6% in April 1933 and 17.9% in April 2020. Yet, it&#8217;s not always been a smooth ride — the worst April returns were a 20% crash in 1932 and a 9.5% drop in 1970.
Zooming in on the past three decades, April's track record becomes even more convincing. 
The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>), the benchmark ETF tracking the S&amp;P 500, delivered an average gain of 1.9% over the last 30 Aprils, making it the second-best month of the year after November. SPY ended April in the green 77% of the time.
That said, 2025 has started on a cautious note. Through March 26, the S&amp;P 500 is down about 3% year-to-date. 
Yet history suggests a seasonal tailwind could soon be at play — especially in four specific sectors that have consistently outperformed the broader market in April.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Financials (XLF): Banks Lead The Earnings Charge</h3>
The Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLF#NYSE">XLF</a>) has historically been April&#8217;s top-performing sector. 
Since its inception in 1999, XLF has risen an average of 2.7% during the month, with gains coming in 65% of the time. The seasonal strength is largely tied to the first-quarter earnings season, which kicks off in April and is typically led by major banks. Optimism surrounding annual earnings outlooks often provides a boost.
XLF has already outperformed the broader market in 2025, gaining 4.5% year-to-date. Within the sector, JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>) stands out: Over the past 45 years, JPM shares have climbed an average of 2.6% in April, delivering positive returns 68% of the time.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Consumer Discretionary (XLY): Big Tech Retailers Deliver Spring Strength</h3>
The Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLY#NYSE">XLY</a>) also posted a strong seasonal performance, rising 2.4% on average in April over the last 26 years. It has a 65% winning rate during the month.
April is historically the best month for Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), with an average gain of 7.6% and a 70% success rate. 
Likewise, Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) tends to accelerate this time of year, with April returns averaging 5.9%, making it the second-strongest month for the electric vehicle maker, behind only November's 11.9% surge.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Materials (XLB): A Solid Spring For Commodities And Chemicals</h3>
The Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLB#NYSE">XLB</a>) also delivered strong April sector performers. XLB has risen an average of 3.1% in April over the past 26 years, with a 65% win rate. The ETF is up about 3% year-to-date, suggesting some early momentum heading into April.
One heavyweight in the materials space, Linde plc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LIN#NYSE">LIN</a>) — which represents roughly 20% of XLB's holdings — has consistently delivered in April. With 32 years of historical data, Linde has averaged a 3.5% gain in the month and ended April in positive territory 69% of the time.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Energy (XLE): The Strongest April Performer</h3>
Energy stocks have historically delivered the most robust gains in April, with the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLE#NYSE">XLE</a>) averaging a 4.1% return and closing the month higher 62% of the time. 
Yet, it&#8217;s worth noting that this impressive figure is skewed by an extraordinary rebound in April 2020, when XLE surged nearly 30% following a historic 35% plunge in March 2020 — a period marked by collapsing oil prices and pandemic-driven market chaos. 
Looking at long-term leaders within the sector, Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>) shares have gained an average of 2.7% in April over the past 40 years, while Chevron Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>) performed slightly better, rising 3.1% on average over the same period.

These 4 S&P 500 Sectors Could Outperform The Market In April, If History Has A Say

On CNBC's &#8220;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/video/2025/03/25/final-trades-chevron-wynn-resorts-and-palo-alto-networks.html">Halftime Report Final Trades</a>,&#8221; Joshua Brown of Ritholtz Wealth Management said he is staying long on Chevron Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>) and added that the stock still looks <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/02/43685595/chevron-announces-about-20-workforce-reduction-in-cost-saving-initiative-responsible-leadership-requires-taking-these-steps">good to him</a>.
On Feb. 12, Chevron announced intentions to begin major layoffs this year, aiming to complete the majority by the end of 2026. The move is part of a broader cost-cutting plan, with the company targeting a reduction of $2 billion to $3 billion by the end of 2026, reported CNBC
Jim Lebenthal of Cerity Partners named Wynn Resorts, Limited (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WYNN#NASDAQ">WYNN</a>), saying there is news that billionaire Tilman Fertitta is increasing his stake in company. There is value in the stock, just give it little more time, he added.
Adding support to his choice, Wynn Resorts, on Feb. 13, reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter financial results. Wynn Resorts posted adjusted earnings of $2.42 per share, beating market estimates of $1.22 per share. The company's sales came in at $1.840 billion versus expectations of $1.769 billion.

Stephanie Link of Hightower named Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PANW#NASDAQ">PANW</a>) her final trade.
Citigroup analyst Fatima Boolani supported her view on Feb. 25, maintaining Palo Alto Networks with a Buy rating and raising the price target from $205 to $220.

Shares of oil and gas giant Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>) are hitting 16-week highs on Tuesday as investors bet President Donald Trump's latest tariff threat could be a positive <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/03/44460897/oil-prices-rally-exxon-hits-16-week-highs-as-trump-vows-25-tariffs-on-any-country-buying-venezuelan-crude">catalyst for the stock. </a>
What To Know: Trump took to Truth Social on Monday with the <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114217914259825110">promise</a> of 25% tariffs on any country that buys oil or gas from Venezuela, set to go into effect on April 2. 
The secondary tariffs target major buyers of Venezuelan oil, including China, India, Spain, Italy and Cuba and could disrupt global oil supply chains. Exxon Mobil could potentially see new opportunities if the proposed tariff sends countries looking for alternative supply.

According to data from the Commerce Department, the U.S. bought $5.6 billion of oil and gas from Venezuela in 2024. Trump's proposed tariff could lead to a shift in U.S. oil import patterns, potentially benefiting domestic producers such as Exxon. 
Oil prices jumped after Trump proposed the tariffs Monday with WTI crude oil futures reaching $69.40 per barrel on Tuesday, the highest level in three weeks. A tighter global supply of oil would send prices higher, also benefiting major refiners who have <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44343416/oil-titan-harold-hamm-warns-drilling-could-stop-if-oil-prices-remain-low-you-cant-drill-baby-drill">recently warned</a> that low oil prices could affect their ability to remain viable. 
Oil prices remain somewhat muted for now, due in part to an extension granted to Chevron Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>), which allows the company until May 27 to exit its Venezuelan oil operations.

Trump's Tariffs On Buyers Of Venezuelan Oil Could Boost Energy Sector, Exxon Mobil Stock
