Earnings Scheduled For May 7, 2025

Rivian Automotive Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RIVN#NASDAQ">RIVN</a>) will receive $16 million in state incentives and tax breaks as the EV maker looks to expand its manufacturing unit in Illinois and build a supplier park.
What Happened: The company will receive the incentives from the local government, which includes tax breaks worth over $5 million from Illinois' REV (Reimagining Energy and Vehicles) program, according to a statement from the company on Monday.
Rivian is expected to invest $120 million to build the supplier park, which will help boost its lineup's production in the U.S. The supplier park is expected to span an area of 1.2 million square feet and will create hundreds of jobs, the company shared.
"We are excited to see this supplier park coming together so quickly. This will be a key enabler to increasing production at the plant in 2026 when we start to build R2 in addition to R1 and our commercial vans," Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said.
Why It Matters: Rivian is gearing up for<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/25/05/45205696/rivian-q1-earnings-preview-all-eyes-on-r2-launch-analyst-says-no-catalysts-in-2025"> its earnings call</a>, all set to take place on Tuesday. Analysts expect the company to share updates on the anticipated Rivian R2, which is the company's affordable 5-seater SUV.
Rivian also recently added AI expert and Coherent Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COHR#NYSE">COHR</a>) co-founder Aidan Gomez to its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44934176/rivian-taps-ai-expert-aidan-gomez-to-drive-innovation-advanced-technology-integration">board of directors</a>, in a move that could help Rivian develop newer tech for its vehicles.
Elsewhere, Scaringe shared that Rivian's <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/25/04/44836493/rivians-us-centric-supply-chain-could-offer-edge-amid-trumps-auto-tariffs-says-ceo-rj-scaringe">U.S.-centric supply chain</a> could help the company grapple with U.S. President Donald Trump&#8216;s tariffs and provide the EV maker an edge over its competitors.

Rivian To Receive $16 Million Incentive As Plans For $120 Million Illinois Supplier Park Take Shape

Jim Anderson, the freshly appointed chief executive of laser‑equipment maker Coherent Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COHR#NYSE">COHR</a>), tops the 2024 leaderboard for CEO pay with a staggering $101.5 million package — the only nine‑figure haul in a new study that looked at CEO compensation structures across American companies with a revenue of $1 billion and more.
What Happened: According to the Equilar 100 <a href="https://www.equilar.com/reports/116-highest-paid-ceos-2025-equilar-100.html">study</a>, Anderson joined the Saxonburg, Pa., firm in June 2024 with a pro‑rated cash salary of just $81,538 and a $500,000 signing bonus, but Coherent's board sweetened the pot with more than $100 million in stock awards, according to its proxy filing. 
He edges out Starbucks boss Brian Niccol, who collected $95.8 million, and eclipses marquee names such as Microsoft Corp's (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) Satya Nadella ($79.1 million), Apple's (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) Tim Cook ($74.6 million) and Disney's (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIS#NYSE">DIS</a>) Bob Iger ($40.6 million).

Equilar's snapshot, which reviews proxy statements filed through March 31, pegs median CEO compensation at $25.6 million, up 9.5% from a year earlier. Sky‑high equity grants are doing the heavy lifting: median stock awards jumped 40.5% and now account for nearly three‑quarters of total pay.
What To Know: A rather recent report from Oxfam warns that global <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/05/45127511/ceo-pay-surges-50-since-2019-as-worker-wages-stall-oxfam-calls-for-75-tax-on-super-rich-ahead-of-international-workers-day">income inequality</a> is widening. CEOs now earn 50% more in real terms than they did in 2019, while rank‑and‑file wages barely budged.
In a joint study with the International Trade Union Confederation, the charity examined nearly 2,000 firms in 35 countries and found that average chief executive pay hit $4.3 million in 2024, up from $2.9 million five years ago after inflation. 
Workers, by contrast, saw their paychecks edge up just 0.9% over the same span. The researchers pulled full compensation packages — including bonuses and stock options — from the S&amp;P Capital IQ database and called for sweeping reforms to what they deem a system "rigged for the ultra‑rich."

Highest Paid CEO In America Bagged A Nine-Figure Package Beating Tim Cook, Satya Nadella And Bob Iger

As Washington cranks up <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">the tariff pressure</a>, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) may have already played its smartest card: doubling down on India for assembly and investing deeper into U.S. component suppliers.
While the idea of building iPhones in America sounds good on paper, JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee warns it's not that simple.
&#8220;The U.S. currently grapples with infrastructure and workforce limitations,&#8221; he notes &#8211; the same key ingredients that helped China become the manufacturing powerhouse it is today. Chatterjee estimates that entirely shifting iPhone assembly to the U.S. could trigger a painful 30% price increase for consumers if a 20% tariff on China is implemented.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Apple&#8217;s Best Move: Expand In India</h2>
Rather than chasing a moonshot strategy, Chatterjee believes Apple's best move is to turbocharge what it's already doing: expand in India. &#8220;Scaling further in India to address all local U.S. demand makes the most sense,&#8221; he argues, pointing to India's large skilled workforce, favorable government policies, and the ability to scale efficiently without blowing up costs.
That doesn't mean Apple will ignore the U.S. altogether. Instead, it is expected to invest more heavily in U.S.-based component makers. According to Chatterjee, this could include processors from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co's (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSM#NYSE">TSM</a>) Arizona fabs, display glass from Corning Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLW#NYSE">GLW</a>), and optical sensors from suppliers like Coherent Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COHR#NYSE">COHR</a>) and Lumentum Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LITE#NASDAQ">LITE</a>) &#8211; allowing Apple to meet political pressure without wrecking its margins.
