Amazon.Com Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) nearly doubled its global workforce to 1.6 million.
Walmart aims to grow sales by 4% annually without increasing its headcount, marking a contrast in the hiring dynamics of U.S. retail trade, which employed one in 10 American workers, the Financial Times <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/5be70b28-018d-42d7-af8d-ea5a4bed4d44" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported</a> on Tuesday. Walmart&#8217;s U.S. workforce has remained at 1.6 million in the last ten years.
Wall Street analysts Neil Saunders of GlobalData and Steven Shemesh of RBC Capital highlighted to the Financial Times that Walmart&#8217;s expansion without job creation reflects the prioritization of e-commerce and automation of cumbersome tasks. Artificial intelligence will offer an additional boost to these initiatives. Paul Lewellen, senior vice president of operations at Walmart, said automation upstream has allowed the company to free up five full-time associates to work in other store areas.
Walmart CEO Doug McMillon and other executives snubbed the hiring concerns, citing that technology investments will lead to new roles for workers.
Meanwhile, critics argue that Walmart&#8217;s net sales in the U.S. have risen 36% in the past five years, while average U.S. hourly wages have increased by 28% to $18.25. Walmart stock surged over 146% in the last five years and 52% in the previous 12 months.
In April, Walmart showcased labor-saving technologies at two new warehouses outside Dallas, including a cold-storage hub for foods and a fulfillment center to enable speedy deliveries for e-commerce customers.
About 600 associates work inside the 730,000 sq ft refrigerated warehouse, implying one employee for every 1,200 sq ft. A multi-tiered geometry of lifts, conveyors and sorting machines handles perishables from suppliers and stores them in racks. Algorithms-guided robots later dispatch the foods to coolers at 175 regional stores. The centers can ship over twice the volume of traditional cold warehouses while cutting costs by 20%.
Two miles away, Walmart&#8217;s DFW-5 fulfillment center stocks items for a U.S. e-commerce business that grew by 21% in the latest quarter. The 1.5 million sq ft warehouse can hold up to two million individual products and employs 650 associates. Here, work that once took 12 steps has been reduced to five, helping to cut the cost by an expected 30% at the end of 2025.
DFW-5 replaced a Fort Worth, Texas, warehouse named DFW-1, where Walmart cut over 1,000 jobs.
According to annual reports, Walmart U.S.&#8217;s dedicated e-commerce fulfillment centers declined to 29, down from 40 in 2020.
In May, Walmart cut 1,500 global tech, U.S. operations and U.S. advertising staff.

Taiwan Semiconductor&#8217;s plan to build a second factory in Japan&#8217;s Kumamoto Prefecture remains vulnerable to the sudden inrush of workers from the contract chipmaker&#8217;s first plant, which is taking a toll on the rural infrastructure.

Constellation Energy Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CEG#NASDAQ">CEG</a>) and Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) announced on Tuesday that they had <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/06/b45742156/constellation-meta-sign-20-year-deal-for-clean-reliable-nuclear-energy-in-illinois" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">inked a 20-year</a> power purchase agreement (PPA).
The PPA will support Meta&#8217;s clean energy goals and regional operations with 1,121 megawatts of emissions-free nuclear energy. Constellation Energy stock gained after the announcement.
Beginning in June 2027, the agreement supports the relicensing and continued operations of Constellation&#8217;s high-performing Clinton nuclear facility for another two decades after the state&#8217;s ratepayer-funded zero emission credit (ZEC) program expires.

The deal will expand the output of the Clinton Clean Energy Center by 30 megawatts through plant uprates. The deal is also expected to deliver $13.5 million in annual tax revenue.
The Clinton Clean Energy Center was slated for premature closure in 2017 after years of financial losses despite being one of the best-performing nuclear plants in Illinois. However, the Future Energy Jobs Act prevented Clinton&#8217;s retirement by establishing a Zero Emission Credit program that financially supported the plant through mid-2027.
The Clinton Clean Energy Center&#8217;s economic and environmental impacts are significant. The Center employs over 530 people, contributes approximately $13.5 million in annual taxes, and generates enough carbon-free electricity to power over 800,000 homes.
An&nbsp;analysis&nbsp;by The Brattle Group found that shuttering Clinton would raise emissions by more than 34 million metric tons of carbon over 20 years, the equivalent of putting approximately 7.4 million gasoline-powered cars on the road for a year.

Ollie&#8217;s Bargain Outlet Holdings, Inc. The U.S. discount store chain reported adjusted earnings of 75 cents per share, beating the consensus of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">71 cents per share</a>.
The company reported sales of $576.77 million, beating the consensus of $565.95 million.
Net sales increased 13.4%, driven by new store unit growth and an increase in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/06/g45742869/ollies-bargain-outlet-holdings-inc-announces-first-quarter-fiscal-2025-results" rel="noreferrer noopener">comparable store sales</a>.

Adjusted EBITDA&nbsp;was $72.2 million, and adjusted EBITDA margin&nbsp;was 12.5%.

Guidance: The company is reaffirming its earnings outlook for fiscal 2025.
Ollie&#8217;s Bargain Outlet expects fiscal year 2025 adjusted earnings of $3.65-$3.75 per share compared to consensus of $3.73 per share.
The company expects a comparable store sales increase of 1.4%-2.2% compared to prior guidance of 1.0%-2.0%.
It raises 2025 sales guidance from $2.56 billion to $2.58 billion, compared to the consensus of $2.58 billion.

Ollie's Beats Q1 Expectations, Lifts Sales Outlook As Shoppers Hunt for Discounts

The king of all blockchains – Ethereum (<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/ETH-USD">ETH</a>) – was once slow and costly. It led to the quick development of rival blockchains. But now Ethereum has corrected much of its problems, developed its own layer 2 chain like Optimism, is <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/crypto/25/06/45716370/ethereums-l1-will-be-scaled-by-10x-over-the-next-year-says-vitalik-buterin">improving the capabilities of its layer 1 chain</a>, and its gas fees have fallen from a June 2020 high of around 709 Gwei (the price in blockchain lingo) to 5.08 Gwei as of May 29. <a href="https://ycharts.com/indicators/ethereum_average_gas_price">Gas fees</a> have fallen 67% from this time last year, reducing prices for complex smart contracts hundreds of dollars.&nbsp; Why bother investing in an alt-chain now?&nbsp;
"The predicted developer exodus from Ethereum never materialized," said Alex Loktev, Chief Commercial Officer at P2P.org, a blockchain infrastructure company that provides staking services primarily for institutional clients.
Ethereum consistently supports <a href="https://www.developerreport.com/ecosystems/ethereum">over 6,000 monthly active developers</a>, dwarfing the combined developer activity of layer 1 chain rivals Solana (<a href="https://www.developerreport.com/ecosystems/solana">~3,200</a>) and Avalanche (<a href="https://www.developerreport.com/ecosystems/avalanche">~406</a>). Monthly active developers numbers reflect the number of software engineers that are building applications on a particular blockchain, opposed to monthly active users, which measures things like active wallets, or trading and gaming on the blockchain. "Ethereum&#8217;s has a deep bench of talent and they are not chasing transient yield farms," Loktev said. "They are focused on building scalable infrastructure with real-world use cases."
Loktev said Ethereum still offers "unmatched benefits" for users. He named a unified security model and integrated liquidity layers. "When you&#8217;re staking (coins) or securing billions in value, architecture isn&#8217;t a footnote—it's the main story," he said. "Ethereum continues to make the right choices for long-term institutional trust."
Unfortunately investors have not done well holding ETH this year, and over the last 12 months, despite relatively strong news for Ethereum. Spot Ethereum exchange traded funds recorded cumulative net inflows of $493 million in May, with <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/crypto/cryptocurrency/25/06/45718946/ethereum-books-record-institutional-inflows-xrp-sees-outflows-what-is-going-on">a record streak</a> of 9 consecutive days of positive inflows and $321 million in just the last week of May.
Technological advancements like the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45260729/ethereums-pectra-upgrade-goes-live-reshapes-wallet-logic-and-raises-security-and-bandwidth-concerns">Pectra upgrade </a>have not helped investors here. Ethereum has experienced a significant decline of approximately 31.9% over the past year. Within its big rivals, only Avalanche (<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/avax-USD">AVAX</a>) has done worse, down around 38%.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What&#8217;s Good for Ethereum, is Good for All</h2>
Falling gas prices on Ethereum are a welcome improvement, said Shahaf Bar-Geffen, Chief Executive Officer of COTI (<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/COTI-USD">COTI</a>), a fintech platform for digital payments, "but Ethereum&#8217;s transactions per second limitations persist."&nbsp;
This and other bottlenecks keep competitive blockchains going, making it easier for them to attract developers and commercial clients. Most of them will have their own specific spin on what makes their blockchain unique. Privacy is a favorite for Coti users.
COTI developers were <a href="https://medium.com/cotinetwork/coti-joins-cbdc-project-as-pioneer-of-ecbs-digital-euro-d0083bc3806b">involved </a>in the design of the Digital Euro, and is a <a href="https://sabc.ai/">founding member </a>of the $140 billion Saudi Arabia AI &amp; Blockchain Center.&nbsp;
"Ultimately, developers need infrastructure that scales with their ambitions, so using a blockchain goes beyond just worrying about fees," he said. "Our approach isn&#8217;t just about being a cheaper option to Ethereum; it&#8217;s about creating a privacy infrastructure that is needed if you want to scale open (public) systems," he said.
The COTI token is down 39% year-to-date.
Progress in the industry is always a good thing, said John Wang, Head of Neo Ecosystem Growth and Managing Director of Neo Ecofund.&nbsp;
"Healthy competition drives innovation, and that benefits everyone," Wang said.
For Neo, a better Ethereum isn't a threat, though the NEO token has taken a hit this year worse than ETH. "It reinforces what we've believed from the start, that developers deserve performance, affordability, and a user-friendly infrastructure. Some blockchains may have gained attention purely due to Ethereum's high gas costs, but our value proposition goes beyond being an alternative," he said.&nbsp;
Falling Ethereum gas prices are not undercutting its rivals, even if their token prices are underperforming. The speculative nature of the cryptocurrency market doesn't always match the fundamentals of the company that issued the token in the first place.&nbsp;
As of now, there are 472 smart contracts built on Neo N3, and 1,842 smart contracts on Neo X — following the launch of their Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible sidechain.
Solana attracted interest from institutional investment houses lately, the Financial Times reported. Several major banks are now working with Solana to tokenize traditional financial assets like stocks and bonds; another sign that the Ethereum alternatives are viable.
BlackRock, VanEck Global and Wisdom Tree are working with the Avalanche blockchain to tokenize real world assets, Avalanche <a href="https://www.avax.network/about/blog/defi-grows-up-rwas-scalable-liquidity-and-institutional-access-on-avalanche?utm">said </a>on April 30.
"Ethereum has raised the bar now," said Wang. "We're more than ready to meet their challenge."

Still, he doesn't shy away from his losses. He once invested $5 million in a healthcare texting company that went to zero in just 18 months. And he left $2 million on the table after selling covered calls on a stock that jumped right after earnings.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Shift Away From U.S. Stocks</h2>
Galloway is now moving away from U.S. equities, citing sky-high valuations and political instability. "[If] you think you're diversified because you're in an <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/what-is-an-index-fund">index fund</a>, you're not, because I believe the U.S. is going to go flat in the next decade," he said. &#8220;I&#8217;m going to be almost entirely out of the U.S. market within three or four months.&#8221;
