The markets are jittery ahead of a packed earnings week, with four of the &#8220;Mag 7&#8221; — Microsoft (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>), Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>), Apple (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>), Amazon (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) — alongside several other heavy-hitters, set to release their results over the next few days.
Investors will be closely watching the results of Welltower Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WELL#NYSE">WELL</a>), Domino&#8217;s Pizza Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DPZ#NASDAQ">DPZ</a>), and NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NXPI#NASDAQ">NXPI</a>) on Monday to set the tone for the rest of this week.
U.S. 10-Year Treasuries are at 4.26%, while the 2-Year Treasuries are at 3.77%. The CME Group&#8217;s FedWatch <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool</a> shows the markets pricing a 93.1% likelihood of interest rates remaining unchanged during the FOMC meeting, the first week of May, marking a decline from Friday, at 95.3%.

Cues From Last Week:
The markets were aided by strong earnings performances by AbbVie Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ABBV#NYSE">ABBV</a>), but disappointing performances by Aon PLC (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AON#NYSE">AON</a>) and HCA Healthcare Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HCA#NYSE">HCA</a>) weighed on the rally. 
Consumer Sentiment Report (Final), released on Friday, highlighted an 8% slip in sentiments compared to the prior month, as uncertainties continue to persist, having an impact on consumer purchasing decisions.
The S&amp;P 500 capped off the week on a high note on Friday, led by communications, consumer discretionary, healthcare, and technology. Financials, consumer staples, real estate, and materials were, however, in the red during the day.
As of Friday, the Nasdaq 100 is down 12.5% from its high of 22,222.61 points, the S&amp;P 500 is down 10.1% from 6147.43 points, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 11% from 45,073.63 points.

Analysts are rather upbeat going into this earnings week, with several leading experts pointing towards optimistic consensus estimates as a sign that the markets are yet to price in a recession or even a slowdown, for that matter, according <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/4aa1d7d7-4162-4e25-a6d6-a174a9626681">to</a> a report by FT. 
According to Daniel Von Ahlen of TS Lombard, &#8220;The information derived from risk assets doesn't even suggest markets reckon a mild slowdown will take shape this year.&#8221;
Peter Berezin, a chief global strategist at BCA Research, says that &#8220;typically earnings estimates decline during even mild recessions,&#8221; but the markets are now pricing a 10% earnings growth over the next twelve months, and that&#8217;s of &#8220;last year's peak profit margins no less,&#8221; he says.

US Stock Futures Fall As Markets Brace For Earnings From Microsoft, Meta, Apple And Apple This Week: 'Earnings Estimates Don't Signal A Recession' Says Leading Analyst

Hyatt Hotels Corporation ("Hyatt" or the "Company") (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/H#NYSE">H</a>), a leading global hospitalitycompany, announced today that HI Holdings Playa B.V., an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Hyatt ("Buyer"), has extended the offering period of its previously announced cash tender offer to purchase all of the outstanding ordinary shares of Playa Hotels &amp; Resorts N.V. ("Playa") (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLYA#NASDAQ">PLYA</a>) for $13.50 per share in cash, less any applicable withholding taxes and without interest. The offer is being made pursuant to the previously announced purchase agreement, dated February 9, 2025 (the "Purchase Agreement"), among Hyatt, Buyer and Playa.
The tender offer is now scheduled to expire at 5:00 p.m., New York City time, on May 23, 2025, unless the tender offer is further extended or earlier terminated in accordance with the Purchase Agreement. The tender offer will continue to be extended until all conditions are satisfied or waived, or until the tender offer is terminated, in either case pursuant to the terms of the Purchase Agreement and as described in the Schedule TO filed by Hyatt and Buyer with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on February 24, 2025, as amended and supplemented. Concerns about the future of Social Security are prompting more Americans to claim Social Security benefits earlier than planned, even at the risk of collecting smaller monthly checks. Triggered by government cuts to welfare programs and administrative turmoil, retirement decisions are being reshaped across the country.
What Happened: Social Security claims increased to 580,887 in March from 500,527 a year before, according <a href="https://www.wsj.com/personal-finance/retirement/social-security-benefits-early-trump-changes-27ecd4ee">to</a> the Wall Street Journal. 
At a March 28 meeting, officials said that "fearmongering has driven people to claim benefits earlier." Layoffs, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/04/44707473/aprils-social-security-changes-how-new-rules-could-affect-your-check">changing rules, </a>and larger initiatives to cut government spending have <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44775706/when-i-hear-our-politicians-say-were-not-gonna-touch-social-security-i-dont-believe-them-seniors-are-worried-about-doge-changes">generated public anxiety.</a>

Why It Matters: Claiming early leads to lower lifetime payments. Boston University Economist Laurence Kotlikoff pointed out that benefits starting at 70 are "76% higher than at 62." Despite this, many do not want to wait.
"There is no confusion. Trump has been extremely clear: he promised to protect and strengthen Social Security," said White House spokeswoman Liz Huston. She also referred to causes for collecting early, like aging baby boomers and new benefit rules.

Social Security Fears Drive Americans To Claim Benefits Early, Despite Smaller Checks, As Trump's Policies Fuel 'Fearmongering'

VinFast Auto Ltd. ("VinFast" or the "Company") today announced its preliminary vehicle deliveries for the first quarter of 2025. The Company delivered 36,330 electric vehicles ("EVs")1 globally in 1Q25, representing a 296% increase year-over-year. Notably, VF 5 deliveries grew 153% year-over- year and VF 6 deliveries grew 453% year-over-year. VF 3 and VF 5 accounted for 67% of total deliveries during the quarter.

Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) could surge to a new all-time high of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/bitcoin-price-prediction">$120,000 in the second quarter</a>, according to Geoffrey Kendrick, Head of Digital Assets Research at Standard Chartered.
What Happened: In a note sent to Benzinga, Kendrick highlighted that strategic reallocation away from U.S. assets, combined with growing institutional demand, is likely to propel Bitcoin higher in the coming weeks.
Kendrick wrote in the note that, "we expect these supportive factors to push BTC to a fresh all-time high around USD 120,000 in Q2."
Kendrick pointed to several factors underpinning his bullish outlook: U.S. Treasury term premiums are at their highest in over a decade, suggesting heightened demand for non-dollar assets; whale accumulation of Bitcoin has intensified; and recent ETF flows indicate capital is shifting from gold into Bitcoin.

Standard Chartered maintains its year-end Bitcoin price forecast at $200,000, with Kendrick saying the second quarter breakout could bring that target into sharper focus.
"Timing the upswing is tricky, but we think it is imminent," Kendrick noted, emphasizing that Bitcoin historically tends to rally sharply before entering extended periods of sideways price action.
The bullish forecast comes amid rising volatility in U.S. financial markets, where concerns over inflation, trade tensions and geopolitical uncertainty are pushing investors toward non-traditional stores of value.

Provident Finl Hldgs (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PROV#NASDAQ">PROV</a>) reported quarterly earnings of $0.28 per share which missed the analyst consensus estimate of $0.29 by 3.45 percent. This is a 27.27 percent increase over earnings of $0.22 per share from the same period last year. The company reported quarterly sales of $10.51 million which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $9.86 million by 6.59 percent. This is a 11.73 percent increase over sales of $9.41 million the same period last year.

In a recent post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump called for American access to two of the world's most strategic waterways, demanding that transit fees for US ships be removed immediately.
What Happened: Trump wrote that &#8220;American ships, both military and commercial, should be allowed to travel, free of charge, through the Panama and Suez canals!&#8221; He stressed that both waterways would &#8220;not exist&#8221; without U.S. intervention and assigned Secretary of State Marco Rubio to &#8220;immediately take care of&#8221; the situation.
In response, the Guardian<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/27/trump-says-us-ships-should-have-free-use-of-panama-and-suez-canals"> reports</a>, Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino subtly noted that the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), an independent agency, controls toll policies, saying, "There is no agreement to the contrary."
Earlier this month, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth <a href="https://www.defense.gov/News/News-Stories/Article/Article/4150935/hegseth-says-us-partnering-with-panama-to-secure-canal-deter-china/">visited Panama City</a> and implied that U.S. warships should have priority and free access through the canal. He also proposed that American troops could return to secure it, but this idea was rejected by Panama.

Since January 2024, the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/asia/23/12/36415651/trade-turmoil-houthi-attacks-in-red-sea-ignite-rerouting-crisis-drive-surging-shipping-stocks">U.S. military has been attacking Houthi positions</a>, and Trump has said that strikes will continue until the rebels are <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/2025/04/text-of-a-letter-from-the-president-to-the-speaker-of-the-house-of-representatives-and-the-president-pro-tempore-of-the-senate/">no longer a threat</a> to U.S. operations in the region.

Trump's demand for free access through the Panama and Suez canals could be seen as an aggressive attempt to reassert American influence over major maritime chokepoints. According to Will Freeman of the Council of Foreign Relations, a <a href="https://www.americasquarterly.org/article/securing-the-panama-canal-requires-diplomacy/">"lighter touch"</a> is likely to yield better results.
In March, a BlackRock Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BLK#NYSE">BLK</a>) -led consortium agreed to acquire a majority stake in Panama Ports Company, which operates the Balboa and Cristóbal ports, for $22.8 billion. This deal, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/03/44135570/blackrocks-22-8-billion-port-deal-includes-key-panama-assets-as-trumps-canal-remarks-draw-attention">including 90% of the company</a>, is part of a larger sale of port operations by Hong Kong&#8217;s CK Hutchison.
