"At Robinhood, our customers tier toward the younger side," Quirk said in a Friday interview, noting an average customer age in the low 30s.
Similarities exist between legacy trading firms and Robinhood, he said, but there are many differences that influence the latter&#8217;s product development.
"The technology and products we roll out cater to our customers."
On Robinhood, around 50% of the self-directed trading occurs on mobile, which means most of the trading is done on phones, Quirk said. 
With the growth of retirement accounts and more sophisticated traders joining Robinhood, Quirk said the company saw demand for web-based apps and platforms alongside mobile, which went into the company's new trading platform.
"We are attracting a lot of large customers from other brokerages."
Quirk emphasized the amount of effort Robinhood puts into researching customers to make better tools and products and also the effort made in education to make people feel comfortable switching their accounts over to Robinhood.
"Education is critical."
The HOOD Summit has helped show Quirk stories of investors changing their lives through Robinhood tools and investment platforms, he said. 
"Those stories make you motivated to continue to deliver for the customers."

Platform For Everything: Robinhood recently announced a partnership with Cboe Global Markets (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CBOE#BATS">CBOE</a>) that will bring futures trading to customers, which Quirk said is one of the platform&#8217;s most-requested features. 
"It's a natural," Quirk said.
The tax advantages of futures and the fact they operate around the clock are some of the reasons they are in demand from Robinhood customers, he said. 
With its offerings of stocks, options, futures and cryptocurrency, Quirk highlighted the uniqueness of the Robinhood platform during his interview with Benzinga's Zunaid Suleman at the HOOD Summit in Miami. 
"We're the only place in U.S. where you can do it all."
Robinhood offers the ability to make recurring investments in any asset, including cryptocurrency, Quirk said. 
"The No. 1 traded and most reoccurred investment is Bitcoin," he said, highlighting the leading cryptocurrency Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>).
Bitcoin has been Robinhood&#8217;s top recurring asset for years and it shows the platform has customers who are very passionate about cryptocurrency, the chief brokerage officer said.

EXCLUSIVE: Robinhood's Steve Quirk Says New Offerings Like Crypto, Futures Bring In Customers, Bitcoin Is 'No. 1' Most Traded Investment

CBOE (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CBOE#BATS">CBOE</a>) CEO Fred Tomczyk shared his excitement for upcoming product from Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HOOD#NASDAQ">HOOD</a>) and put an emphasis <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/retail-investors">on retail investors</a> during an exclusive interview Thursday with Benzinga.
Robinhood Growth: Since taking over the role of CEO of Cboe in September 2023, Tomczyk said not a lot has surprised him other than the impressive growth of Robinhood, a company that <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/fintech/24/10/41371235/robinhood-announces-futures-trading-index-options-trading">announced several new products Wednesday.</a>
It was the demand for technology and access to data and the growth of the retail trader that surprised him the most about the markets over the last year since stepping from the Cboe Board of Directors to the CEO role.
Cboe is the parent company of the Chicago Board Options Exchange and BATS Global Markets. The company announced Wednesday that Robinhood customers will soon be able to trade Cboe&#8217;s index options on the S&amp;P 500, Cboe Volatility, Russell 2000 and Mini S&amp;P 500 indexes. 
The Cboe CEO said he was aware of Robinhood, but was surprised by its market growth.
"I never realized they were growing so fast," Tomczyk said to Benzinga&#8217;s Zunaid Suleman. "That was an eye opener for me."
Robinhood unveiled index options, futures and the Robinhood Legend platform at the 2024 HOOD Summit, where Tomczyk spoke to Benzinga.
With the new products, Tomczyk said Robinhood is "trying to take that place as the innovator and disruptor," comparing the broker to broker of old that dominated the space.
"They're really moving into the active trader space."

Cboe CEO On Risk, Volatility: The Cboe CEO acknowledged that trading companies go through ups and downs and the importance of having products and services to help investors trade through any environment.
It&#8217;s important to be focused on the long term and the secular growth trends during constant ups and downs, he said. 
While many non-investors or new investors may think of options as a risky trade, Tomczyk reiterated their purpose.
"The roots of options are in risk management, not speculative," Tomczyk said. "It's a risk mitigation tool."
For options beginners, Tomczyk said it's important to know the differences between them and key terminology and to take education offered by brokerages. Tomczyk suggested investors could try paper money trading in options to try out strategies first.
What's Next For The Markets? Asked for an outlook on what is coming for the markets over the next 12 months, Tomczyk couldn't help but point to the importance of the 2024 election, as presidential elections often bring high volatility.
"I think this one's no different," Tomczyk said. "This one's unpredictable."
Investors will likely trade based on the uncertainty of the election and the questions about the geopolitical environment, which is why the VIX (Cboe Volatility Index) is rising, he said. 
For CBOE, Tomczyk said the focus over the next 12 months is focusing on investments in technology, investments on the retail side of products, innovation on derivatives and providing data and solutions to traders.

"Crypto has become more and more a recognized asset class," Sibbern <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/edcd0f00-71b1-4335-8eba-78c214cbc377">told</a> the Financial Times.
He explained that SIX is considering building a platform to facilitate both spot and derivatives crypto trading. 
This initiative could capitalize on Switzerland's robust regulatory framework for digital assets, positioning it as a key player in the European market.
While some traditional finance institutions have been cautious about entering the crypto space due to regulatory uncertainties and concerns about reputational risks, a few prominent firms have ventured into the sector. 
For instance, Deutsche Boerse, Nomura and Standard Chartered have launched their own crypto exchanges, often separate from their core operations.
However, not all efforts have succeeded. 
CBOE Global Markets (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CBOE#BATS">CBOE</a>) closed its spot crypto exchange earlier this year, citing unclear regulations, and CME Group explored Bitcoin trading but has since shelved those plans.
The approval of spot Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) and Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) exchange-traded funds (ETFs) by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this year has sparked increased interest from both retail and institutional investors. 
This influx has raised expectations that more investors will seek to trade cryptocurrencies directly. 
Although Bitcoin's price has dipped from its all-time high of $72,000 to around $60,000, it remains up by 40% this year, showing resilience in the market.
Switzerland has emerged as one of Europe's most crypto-friendly nations, boasting comprehensive laws around the trading and custody of digital assets. 
These regulations provide clarity on the classification of various types of tokens, something many other countries have yet to implement.

This regulatory advantage could make Switzerland an attractive hub for institutional crypto trading.
Sibbern noted that SIX is evaluating multiple avenues for growth in Europe, with crypto being a potential addition.
 "We are looking at other ways for us to expand in Europe and as a part of that, we are also looking at [whether] crypto should be a part of it," he said, emphasizing that the platform would target institutional investors, such as asset managers. He further added, "We see the trend that more and more global banks and institutions are looking at crypto."
SIX already operates a crypto derivatives platform, AsiaNext, based in Singapore in partnership with Japan's SBI Group. 
Sibbern mentioned that the company is contemplating a similar initiative in Europe, although the project is still under evaluation. 
"We are looking at should we do something similar in Europe," Sibbern said, acknowledging that the company might ultimately decide not to proceed with the venture.
In addition to exploring crypto trading, SIX operates a separate digital exchange, which has seen the listing of nine digital bonds since 2018, with issuers including UBS and the city of Lugano. 
Sibbern indicated that this digital exchange could potentially be expanded to encompass cryptocurrency trading as well, marking a significant evolution for the Swiss group.
This exploration into cryptocurrency trading comes at a time when SIX's traditional exchanges have experienced notable successes, hosting two of Europe's largest IPOs this year — Spanish beauty company Puig and dermatology firm Galderma.

After weak U.S. employment data reignited fears of a hard landing, the VIX spiked 34% to an average of 19 in August, up from 14 the previous month. This drove CME&#8217;s strongest trading volumes since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with August volumes rising 28% month-over-month, particularly in financial futures.
Consequently, CME&#8217;s stock outperformed all sectors in our coverage as well as the S&amp;P 500. While the analyst projects that volatility will stay relatively high through the U.S. election season, the analyst sees downward normalization throughout 2025, making the second half of 2024 an ideal time to consider an Underperform rating.

CME Group Downgraded: Analyst Sees Cutthroat Competition From BGC Group, Cboe Global & Intercontinental Exchange

The SEC has reportedly raised questions about whether Solana (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/sol/usd">SOL</a>) should be classified as a security, potentially leading to a halt in filings related to its exchange-traded funds.

The increased third-quarter 2024 dividend, representing a 15 percent increase from the prior quarter's dividend of $0.55 per share, is payable on September 13, 2024, to stockholders of record as of August 30, 2024.
