Boosting domestic consumption has become a critical focus for Beijing lately as Donald Trump's tariff bombs make export-reliant economies, like China's, more vulnerable than ever to big swings in external demand. That could translate to big business for Chinese companies tied to the domestic retail economy, at least in theory.
One potential beneficiary of such a boom, if it comes, could be&nbsp;Shanghai Fuiou Payment Service Corp. Ltd., which operates digital payment services. That makes the company well-positioned to capitalize on China's efforts to entice consumers into opening their wallets as Fuiou seeks to attract investors to its plan to list in Hong Kong.
Fuiou made a new&nbsp;<a href="https://www1.hkexnews.hk/app/sehk/2025/107352/documents/sehk25050901426.pdf">public filing</a>, its third, for the IPO last Friday, painting itself as a pioneer in integrated digital payment services with "recognized brand dominance and a prominent market position." Citing third-party research, the company, founded in 2011, says it was among the first in China to offer multichannel digital payment software and additional services for e-commerce enterprises.
The Chinese government has rolled out a series of measures since last year to drive the country's economic growth through domestic consumption, as its traditional reliance on exports has left it exposed to growing protectionism across the globe. While China's exports continue to grow despite the pressures, foreign direct investment – another important economic engine that's also dependent on external factors – has already begun to shrink.
Government programs to boost consumer spending range from rebates for trade-ins of old home appliances and smartphones for new ones, to a grand initiative dubbed a "Special Action Plan to Boost Consumption." Against this backdrop, Citibank analysts this week upgraded China's overall consumer sector to "overweight," while also saying technology is one of the sectors that can benefit from Beijing's new policy focus.
As a provider of technology-based services that are directly tied to consumption, Fuiou appears to be in a sweet spot in China's current dull economy.
The company's recent financial performance looks decent enough, especially considering its position in China's fiercely competitive payment services sector. In the last two years, the company's revenue grew at an average annual rate of nearly 20% to 1.6 billion yuan ($221 million) in 2024. And it's stably profitable, although not hugely. It made a net profit of 84 million yuan last year, giving it a net profit margin of about 5%.
Fuiou gets more than 80% of its revenue from "acquiring" services, which help merchants, both online and traditional brick-and-mortar shop operators, collect funds from their customers. The company has processed more than 54 billion transactions worth 15.1 trillion yuan in total payment value (TPV) since its inception, the most among independent providers of integrated digital payment services in China, Fuiou said in its IPO document, citing third-party data.
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">High-margin services</h4>
Apart from its main transaction-processing services, "digital commerce-enabling solutions" are an emerging income source for the company. Such solutions include software as a service (SaaS), digital marketing services, account operations and invoicing for merchants. This business accounted for 7% of Fuiou's revenue last year, up from 5.3% in 2023. Margins on these services are also relatively high, so Fuiou is looking to expand them to boost its profitability.
The company has also been successful in controlling costs. Its operating expenses amounted to 22% of its revenue in 2022, and it managed to reduce that ratio to 19% last year.
While the company's story sounds good on the whole, there are also some red flags. While the recent 20% average annual revenue growth looks solid, a closer look shows that Fuiou's growth slowed sharply last year. Its revenue increased by nearly a third in 2023, but then rose just about 8.5% last year.
The jump in 2023 probably owed mostly to the lifting of China's strict Covid-19 restrictions at the end of the previous year, which resulted in a wave of "revenge spending" as shops reopened and consumption returned to more normal levels. So, that kind of growth isn't likely to be repeated any time soon. Last year's more tepid growth is more likely to represent the norm going forward, as China's economy slows after the brief post-pandemic rally.
China intensified its efforts to stimulate domestic consumption only late last year, so it may take some time before notable results start to become evident, as the domestic economy remains on a weak footing amid the ongoing real estate slump, on top of global trade tensions. Retail sales increased a modest 4% year-on-year in the first two months of this year, slightly faster than 3.5% in 2024. In releasing the March figure, the National Bureau of Statistics said that "the foundation for sustained economic recovery and growth" is not solid enough.
Retail sales growth accelerated to 6% in March, but it remains to be seen whether that pace is sustainable. Fundamentally, low levels of household income and uneven wealth distribution in general are restraining consumption in China, Rhodium Group said in a report last July. That means that without significant changes in fiscal policy, household consumption growth in the country is likely to stay at 3%-4% in real terms in the next five to 10 years, the researcher said.
Fuiou also operates in a highly competitive industry that is dominated by giants like Alipay and WeChat, which are both part of much larger companies. Fuiou had a market share of just 0.8% in terms of total payment volume last year, so it may inevitably need to sacrifice its margins to gain share.
Shares of another payment services provider,&nbsp;Lianlian DigiTech&nbsp;(2598.HK), have fallen about 35% since the company's Hong Kong IPO last year. While it remains well in the red, unlike Fuiou, Lianlian trades at a relatively respectable price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of 4.5 – a multiple that would value Fuiou at 7.2 billion yuan, or roughly $1 billion, based on its 2024 revenue.
Given that Fuiou is profitable, investors may be more interested in its potential, seeing it as a fresh opportunity to buy into China's consumption growth story. But it may also face a fair amount of skepticism and caution in the absence of evidence that China's consumption-boosting measures are having the desired effect.

Super Micro shares continued to rise on Tuesday amid positive analyst coverage. The company also announced the shipping&nbsp;launch of new micro cloud servers powered by AMD EPYC 4005 Series processors, optimized to balance performance density, scalability and affordability.
&#8220;These servers offer up to 2080 cores on a standard 42U rack, greatly reducing data center rack space and overall TCO for enterprise and small and medium businesses,&#8221; said Mory Lin, vice president, IoT/Embedded &amp; Edge Computing at Super Micro.
Raymond James analyst Simon Leopold initiated coverage on Super Micro with an <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings">Outperform rating</a> and set a price target of&nbsp;$41, which helped fuel continued momentum in the name. 
The analyst firm said the company is in a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/05/45399438/smci-rated-outperform-by-raymond-james-amid-dominance-in-branded-ai-server-market">&#8220;sweet spot"</a> between traditional IT vendors and contract manufacturers. Analysts at Raymond James highlighted the company&#8217;s strong growth, which has been overshadowed by internal financing controls, which came under scrutiny after Super Micro&#8217;s independent auditor&nbsp;resigned last October over&nbsp;governance and transparency concerns, which led the company to delay the filing of its quarterly and full-year results.
Super Micro last reported quarterly results on May 6. The company reported adjusted earnings of 31 cents per share, missing analyst estimates of 50 cents per share, and revenue of $4.6 billion, below forecasts of $5.42 billion.

The company preannounced results in late April, citing delayed customer platform decisions that moved sales into the fourth quarter.

Several tech stocks are getting a boost after signing deals in Saudi Arabia this week. Saudi Arabian data center company DataVolt <a href="https://data-volt.com/media/breaking-news/datavolt-announces-landmark-deal-with-supermicro-to-accelerate-adoption-of-rack-scale-total-liquid-cooling-it-solutions-for-future-ready-ai-data-centers/">announced</a> a new deal with Super Micro after the market close on Tuesday, which appears to be helping drive momentum on Wednesday.
The companies signed a multi-year partnership agreement to fast-track the delivery of ultra-dense GPU platforms and rack systems for DataVolt's hyperscale AI locations.
&#8220;We are excited to partner with DataVolt and continue expanding our manufacturing efforts in the United States. By working together, we will bring cutting-edge AI and compute infrastructure, enabling the Kingdom's vision of becoming a global hub for technology and innovation,&#8221; Liang said in a statement.

Efimosfermin is a phase 3-ready, investigational specialty medicine for treating and preventing the progression of steatotic liver disease (SLD).
Efimosfermin is a novel, once-monthly fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) analog therapeutic in clinical development for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), including cirrhosis, and future development in alcohol-related liver disease (ALD), both forms of SLD.
SLD affects approximately 5% of the global population with limited therapeutic options.
ALD affects about 26 million patients globally. Together with MASH, it is the leading cause of liver transplants in the U.S.

Treatment with efimosfermin led to significant improvements in fibrosis ≥1 stage without worsening of MASH, and MASH resolution without worsening of fibrosis over 24 weeks.

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) recalls nearly 274,000 SUVs in the U.S. due to a brake line defect.
The <a href="https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCLRPT-25V314-7594.PDF" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">recall</a> affects certain Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models built between 2022 and 2024.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, front brake lines in some vehicles may have been bent during assembly. This could cause them to contact the engine air cleaner outlet pipe and increase the crash risk. 
Of the 273,789 affected vehicles, about 223,315 are Expeditions and 50,474 are Navigators. Ford traced the issue to its Kentucky Truck Plant, where a revised radiator hose stowage procedure was introduced in November 2024.

Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct them to bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to inspect the front brake line.

Tilray Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLRY#NASDAQ">TLRY</a>) shares are trading relatively flat in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/movers" rel="noreferrer noopener">the premarket session on Wednesday</a>.
The firm has announced a product line expansion through its subsidiary, High Park Holdings Ltd., entering deeper into <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/05/g45402188/tilray-brands-announces-the-launch-of-xmg-atomic-sours-new-thc-beverages-and-edibles" rel="noreferrer noopener">Canada's cannabis-infused consumer market.</a>
The launch of XMG Atomic Sours, a new lineup of sour-flavored cannabis drinks and gummies, is the latest move in Tilray's bid to diversify its product portfolio and tap into emerging customer preferences.
Tilray said that the XMG Atomic Sours beverages is available nationwide via select retailers.

It includes the flavors Cherry Blasted Lime and Foggy Peaches. Each 355ml drink includes 10mg of THC, 10mg of CBG, and a caffeine content of 30mg sourced from guarana extract.
According to the company, the beverages utilize nano-emulsified THCA diamonds to speed up onset time, aligning with demand for fast-acting cannabis products.
The XMG Atomic Sours Gummies represent High Park's entry into the cannabis edibles space.
Plant-based pectin is used in place of gelatin, and the gummies are shaped like keys—a nostalgic nod aimed at invoking flavor memories. The company describes the flavor experience as "intensely sour."
This apart, the company continues to grow its cannabis and beverage offerings in North America and recently saw the return of its Blue Point Brewing Co. Delayed Pilsner—targeted at the New York commuting crowd—<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45233132/whats-going-on-with-tilray-brands-stock-on-tuesday]" rel="noreferrer noopener">back on shelves earlier this month</a>.

SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (SPY)
SPY is currently trading near the 587.31 zone. If buyers can gain traction above this level, we'll be watching for a quick move toward 589.71. A sustained hold above 589.71 could open the door for a continued move higher into 592.00. Should that level find buyers, we'd anticipate upward continuation targeting 593.73. If bullish momentum persists throughout the session, the final upside target for the day sits at 595.14.&nbsp;
Should SPY struggle to maintain 587.31 as support, the next area to watch on the downside is 585.75. If this level is breached, expect sellers to try to press the auction lower into 584.68. A breakdown through that level with strong downside momentum could drag price down to 583.18. If the market turns particularly heavy, the lowest downside level we&#8217;re monitoring today is 581.97.
Invesco QQQ Trust Series 1 (QQQ)
QQQ is holding near the 515.00 level as the session begins. Bulls need to step in here to defend this spot, and if successful, we're looking for a move toward 516.58. Continued strength could carry the auction through to 517.97. Should buyers remain in charge, a break toward 518.65 is on the table. The highest upside marker we&#8217;re tracking today is 519.87.&nbsp;
If 515.00 fails to hold as support, we're watching for sellers to push the price down toward 513.64. If the downside intensifies, further targets include 511.53, with a heavier liquidation possibly taking the Q's into 509.87. If sellers remain in control deep into the session, the final downside target for the day is 508.22.
Apple Inc. (AAPL)
Apple is currently rotating around 212.44. For bullish momentum to continue, this level needs to act as a base for a push into 214.07. If that level clears with strength, 215.25 is the next objective. With continued interest from buyers, the market could drive toward 216.70, which is our high bull target on the day.&nbsp;
Should 212.44 break down early in the session, the first downside area of interest is 211.12. If that fails to catch a bid, we anticipate bears pressing the action toward 209.81. Continued weakness could take Apple into 208.81, and if that can't hold, our lowest support level for the day is down at 207.93.
Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>)
Microsoft is hovering near 446.33 as the day gets started. If bulls can defend this area and push the price higher, look for a test of 448.18. Holding above that zone could ignite further upside momentum toward 450.26. Should that level be converted into solid support, the high-side target for the session is 453.02.&nbsp;
If 446.33 does not hold during regular hours, expect bears to push the price into 444.95. If continued weakness follows, 442.95 is the next support area on watch. Should that give way, 441.34 is the next key level, with the low bear target sitting all the way down at 438.72.
NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA)
NVIDIA is hovering around 132.19 to start the session. If bulls can reclaim control, look for a move into 133.31. If this level sees strong participation from buyers, the next target to the upside is 134.56. With momentum, bulls could look to extend the auction up into 135.64, with 136.98 as the upside cap for today.&nbsp;
If 132.19 gives way to downside pressure, 131.42 becomes the next support to monitor. Should sellers push further, the auction could fall into 129.53. If downward momentum continues to build, we're watching 128.10, with a potential extension into the low bear target of 126.84.
Alphabet Inc Class A (GOOGL)
GOOGL is trading near 160.36. If bulls can stabilize the tape here, a move toward 161.79 is likely. Should that area be claimed and defended, there is potential for an advance into the high bull target of 163.79 before the close.&nbsp;
If price fails to hold above 160.36, the next level lower is 158.54. If that support doesn't hold up, expect bears to push toward 157.41. On continued weakness and heavy volume, the final downside target of interest is 156.61.
Meta Platforms Inc ( META)
Meta is positioned around 655.54 as the session begins. Bulls need to hold this level and push toward 658.86 for confirmation of strength. If that level is surpassed, 663.33 is the next major upside level. Continued buying pressure could push price action up to the high bull target of 667.99.&nbsp;
If Meta slips below 655.54, look for bears to attempt to break price down into 650.56. Should the selling persist, expect further movement toward 646.48. If this weakness continues into the session, a final flush to 642.59 is on the radar.
Tesla Inc. (TSLA)
Tesla is floating around the key 340.97 area. If bulls are able to step in and push price upward, we could see a move to 346.64. Sustained upside momentum would bring 350.87 into play. If the broader market supports it, Tesla could climb to 356.80, with the high bull target at 363.84 in play.&nbsp;
On the flip side, if 340.97 cannot support price action, Tesla could slide to 333.93. Should sellers stay in control, the next level lower is 327.59. If that fails, the final bear target for today is 322.52.
Final Word:&nbsp;
With no major data prints scheduled today, the market will likely take cues from Fed speak and headline-driven momentum. Jefferson's remarks at 9:10AM ET could provide subtle policy clues, but the bigger context remains yesterday's softer-than-expected CPI data. Traders may continue to weigh the implications of that inflation report on interest rate expectations and broader risk appetite.&nbsp;
