The analyst evaluated tariff impacts on Best Buy and Target under various mitigation and SG&amp;A reduction scenarios.
Without cost cuts, Best Buy would need to raise prices by zero to 5% and Target by 1%-11% to maintain profitability. To match FY2025 earnings estimates, Best Buy must raise prices by 3%-9% and Target by 6%-17%. With a 2% SG&amp;A reduction, those figures ease slightly, noted the analyst.

There are many ways to determine if a stock is oversold. The bottom part of the chart is the Relative Strength Index (RSI). If the blue line is below the horizontal red line, it indicates oversold conditions. As you can see, that's the case now.
Another way to see if something is oversold is the use of Bollinger Bands. The red line on the price chart is one of these bands. It is two standard deviations below the 20-day moving average price.
According to statistics and probability theory, 95% of trading should occur within two standard deviations of the mean. If the stock is below this threshold, it is considered to be oversold. That's the case here.
Best Buy has also dropped to a support level. You can see on the chart, there was support around $59 in late 2023. Now the stock has reached this level again.
There can be support at levels that were previously support. Some people who sold while the shares were at support regretted doing so when the price rallied after. A number of them vowed to eventually buy their shares back if they could at their selling price.
So now that the stock is back to $59, they are placing buy orders. This has created support.
The combination of being oversold while at support can result in a reversal and move higher.

On Thursday, Goldman Sachs analyst Brooke Roach discussed the impact of the U.S. reciprocal tariffs on retail companies.
On April 2, President Trump announced reciprocal tariffs, including a 10% hike on all countries except Mexico and Canada, with higher rates for select nations with trade deficits.
The most significant retail impact is expected from increased tariffs on major sourcing partners like Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Cambodia, said the analyst.
The U.S. is significantly raising tariffs on imports, with China&#8217;s tariff rate increasing to 54% (up from 20%). Other key sourcing countries like Vietnam (46%), Indonesia (32%), Bangladesh (37%), Cambodia (49%), and India (27%) will also see tariff hikes, while EU imports face a 20% tariff.
Canada and Mexico remain exempt under USMCA, though non-USMCA compliant goods will be taxed at 12%. Overall, apparel and footwear tariffs are estimated to rise to an average of 38%, noted the analyst.
Additionally, the de minimis duty-free exemption for packages under $800 from China and Hong Kong will end on May 1, 2025.
These shipments will face a 30% tariff or $25 per item, increasing to $50 per item after June 1, 2025. The Secretary of Commerce will review within 90 days whether to expand this policy to Macau.
The newly announced tariffs will pressure brands and retailers, forcing them to adjust pricing, negotiate with vendors, and optimize costs to protect margins.

While most companies will be affected, some are less exposed, including brands with lower U.S. sales exposure like Amer Sports Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AS#NYSE">AS</a>), Canada Goose Holdings Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOS#NYSE">GOOS</a>) and PVH Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PVH#NYSE">PVH</a>). Retailers with indirect sourcing, such as department stores and off-price retailers, could benefit from supply chain disruptions.
Companies that do not source their product from international markets or source from exempt regions, such as Savers Value Village Inc&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SVV#NYSE">SVV</a>) with thrift business model and Kontoor Brands Inc&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KTB#NYSE">KTB</a>) reliance on Mexico, though it also sources from Bangladesh, are less exposed.
The analyst notes that brands with momentum and strong consumer engagement are likely to have more substantial relative pricing power in the marketplace overall.
The analyst noted higher exposure to incrementally new tariffs from Vietnam and Cambodia-exposed businesses include sportswear like Lululemon Athletica Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LULU#NASDAQ">LULU</a>), Nike Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NKE#NYSE">NKE</a>) and general apparel like Torrid Holdings Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CURV#NYSE">CURV</a>), Figs Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FIGS#NYSE">FIGS</a>), Victoria&#8217;s Secret &amp; Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VSCO#NYSE">VSCO</a>), and Gap Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GAP#NYSE">GAP</a>).
The Home Furnishings industry with companies like RH (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RH#NYSE">RH</a>) and Williams-Sonoma Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WSM#NYSE">WSM</a>) faces the greatest risk from tariffs due to its high exposure to China and Vietnam and the discretionary nature of its products.
RH sources 72% of its products from Asia, including 23% from China and 35% from Vietnam, while WSM has 23% China and 14% Vietnam exposure.
Retailers Five Below Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FIVE#NASDAQ">FIVE</a>) and Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BBY#NYSE">BBY</a>) are also vulnerable, with 60% of their products sourced from China. While Vietnam exposure remains unclear for most industries, home furnishing companies have the highest risk, said the analyst.
On the other hand, Auto Parts companies like Advance Auto Parts Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAP#NYSE">AAP</a>), AutoZone Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AZO#NYSE">AZO</a>) and O&#8217;Reilly Automotive Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ORLY#NASDAQ">ORLY</a>) and Home Improvement retailers like Home Depot Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HD#NYSE">HD</a>) and Lowe&#8217;s Companies Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LOW#NYSE">LOW</a>) are better positioned, as they can pass increased costs.

Top U.S. technology multinationals, which have been the biggest beneficiaries of globalization, come to the fore as tariffs could heavily impact the cost of the goods sold by these firms.
What Happened: The data shared by Gina Martin Adams, the chief equity strategist and global director of equity strategy at Bloomberg Intelligence, shows the top tech companies in the U.S. that are likely to be impacted by <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/04/44621408/market-access-has-a-price-trump-unveils-list-of-tariffs-countries-targeted">tariffs announced</a> by President Donald Trump on Wednesday.
These firms &#8220;may suffer the most as tariffs spark trade turmoil and threaten the long-expanding margin domination of American companies,&#8221; explains Adams.
The graphic shared by her shows that <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/legal/25/04/44620411/mark-zuckerberg-led-meta-set-to-face-truth-at-senate-hearing-over-china-operations-and-communist-party-censorship-efforts">Mark Zuckerberg</a>&#8216;s Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) spends less than 10% of the total amount required for them to produce their products and services in the U.S., making it the most vulnerable to tariffs.
The top 10 firms also include Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>), Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>), and AT&amp;T Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/T#NYSE">T</a>).
Adams says that these firms could face more challenges in the wake of retaliation by other countries, further influencing the global supply chain. &#8220;White House tariffs may only be the start, as retaliations further strain global supply chains,&#8221; she adds.

Why It Matters: According to Adams, &#8220;Contrary to popular belief, mega-cap U.S. tech may be at considerable risk, with extremely high valuations and assumptions that margin moats will remain intact.
Companies with high facilities exposure and elevated cost of goods sold outside the U.S. face the greatest direct threats in the short run, while those with elevated revenue exposure are not immune.&#8221;
However, she adds, &#8220;Non-domestic stocks and defensive U.S. sectors may provide some haven as U.S. companies adjust to the new regime.&#8221;
Wedbush&#8217;s Daniel Ives adds that &#8220;Negotiations the only option at this point for White House.&#8221;

Ahead of the tariff announcements on Wednesday, the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), which track the S&amp;P 500 index and Nasdaq 100 index, respectively, rose in trade. The SPY was up 0.63% to $564.52, while the QQQ advanced 0.73% to $476.15, according to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a> data.
On Thursday, the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/04/44620686/sp-500-nasdaq-futures-plunge-over-3-as-trumps-reciprocal-tariff-plan-hits-market-confidence">futures</a> of the Dow Jones index dropped 2.25%, whereas the S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq 100 indices also slumped by 3.02% and 3.52%, respectively.
