Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) unveiled Monday an extensive lineup of next-generation processors and gaming products ahead of Consumer Electronics Show 2025 in Las Vegas, targeting the growing demand for high-performance AI-enabled PCs, gaming <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/25/01/42822846/nvidia-5000-series-product-updates-make-it-top-semiconductor-pick-ahead-of-jensen-huangs-ces-keynote-analyst">systems, and mobile devices.</a>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Next-Gen Processors: AI PCs And Enterprise Innovation</h3>



AMD introduced the Ryzen AI Max Series, Ryzen AI 300 Series, and Ryzen AI 200 Series processors, built on AMD's Zen 5 and Zen 4 architectures. These processors cater to a variety of users, from premium thin-and-light notebooks to everyday productivity tasks. 



For enterprise users, AMD expanded its Ryzen PRO Series lineup, integrating advanced AMD PRO Technologies for security and IT manageability.



"With the next generation of AI-enabled processors, we are proliferating AI to devices everywhere, bringing the power of a workstation to thin and light laptops," said Jack Huynh, AMD's senior vice president and general manager of Computing and Graphics.



The flagship Ryzen AI Max processors boast up to 16 Zen 5 CPU cores, 40 AMD RDNA 3.5 graphics compute units, and an AMD XDNA 2 Neural Processing Unit capable of 50 trillion operations per second. Systems powered by these processors will be available starting in the first quarter 2025.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Gaming: Pushing Desktop And Mobile Performance Limits</h3>



AMD's gaming announcements were headlined by the new Ryzen 9950X3D and Ryzen 9900X3D desktop processors, featuring 2nd-generation 3D V-Cache technology for unprecedented gaming and content-creation performance. Both processors are based on AMD's Zen 5 cores and optimized for high clock speeds and lower temperatures.



For handheld gaming enthusiasts, AMD launched the Ryzen Z2 Series processors, promising AAA gaming experiences on portable devices with up to 8 cores and AMD RDNA 3.5 architecture. These systems are also slated for release in the first quarter of the year.



&#8220;Gaming has become one of the biggest forms of entertainment worldwide,&#8221; Huynh stated, adding, &#8220;Today's announcements underscore our commitment to delivering hardware that eliminates performance bottlenecks for gamers."

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Collaboration With Dell</h3>



AMD also announced its Ryzen AI PRO processors will power Dell Technologies Inc.&#8216;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DELL#NYSE">DELL</a>) new commercial PC lineup.



These devices mark Dell's first use of AMD's AI-focused silicon in enterprise PCs, a milestone in their long-standing partnership.



"We're incredibly proud to collaborate with Dell on the next generation of commercial PCs," Huynh said. 



Sam Burd, President of the Client Solutions Group at Dell Technologies, highlighted the importance of AI innovation, stating, "AI PCs represent the next frontier in computing, transforming how we work, create and connect."



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Market Reactions</h3>



Minutes after the product announcements, AMD shares briefly dipped before rebounding, supported by optimistic projections for its AI and gaming processors. 



At the time of writing, AMD stock was up 3.8% intraday, though still down over 7% year-over-year.



Shares of Dell Technologies were also 3.8% higher by 3:40 p.m. ET, holding session gains.

Berkshire Hathaway beat the S&amp;P 500 in 2024, but significantly underperformed in 2023.



The last down year for the S&amp;P 500 came in 2022 with the SPY down 17.5% for the year. For Berkshire Hathaway, the last down year was in 2015, with a 12.1% decline.



Over the last 20 years, the best return for the SPY was +32.3% in 2013, just outperforming Berkshire Hathaway at +32.2% in the same year.



A look at the worst year also sees SPY win with a 36.8% decline in 2008 compared to a 32.1% decline for Berkshire Hathaway in the same year.



Overall, in the last 20 years, Buffett has won the head-to-head battle 11 times with SPY winning nine times. 



Taking the average return of the last 20 years, Berkshire Hathaway leads at 12.1% to 11.5%.



More importantly, the 20-year return is +669% for Berkshire Hathaway compared to a 20-year return of +621.2% for SPY, adjusted for dividends.



When it comes to investing in the SPY vs. Berkshire Hathaway, the Oracle of Omaha leads the battle across many metrics over the last 20 years, including overall returns.

A new Benzinga poll shows one stock could be among the highest-growth names in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/space-stocks">the space sector for 2025.</a>



What Happened: Investors expressed high interest in the space sector throughout 2024. Last year, Elon Musk-led SpaceX hit a new valuation<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42453807/spacex-hits-350-billion-valuation-in-insider-share-sale-ceo-elon-musk-says-no-investors-wanted-to-sell-shares"> of $350 billion.</a>



SpaceX is privately owned and harder for investors to get exposure to. But there are several space stocks that are readily available for investors. Benzinga recently asked readers:

Rocket Lab, a rival of SpaceX, won the poll with 33% of the vote. Ranking second was the answer of none of the four space stocks selected for the poll. Intuitive Machines received 24% of the vote as the second most-picked stock in the poll.

Why It's Important: The industry could benefit from a new White House administration and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/24/12/42323934/shift4-payments-stock-drops-after-ceo-jared-isaacmans-nasa-nomination-whats-going-on">expected new NASA leader</a> Jared Isaacman.



However, given that 26% of readers didn&#8217;t select any of the space stocks could suggest declining interest in the sector. Or, perhaps, valuations are high after 2024 which saw many of the stocks climb.

All four companies went public via SPAC merger in recent years. They also had milestones that could show their strength in the space sector along with future growth initiatives.



Redwire <a href="https://redwirespace.com/newsroom/reaching-new-heights-redwires-top-five-moments-from-2024/">shared </a>that bioprinting human heart tissue onboard the International Space Station, a study of the sun launched in November 2024 and the acquisition of spacecraft developer Hera Systems were highlights from 2024.



In February, Intuitive made headlines for helping the U.S. achieve its first soft landing on the Moon since 1972. The feat was a first for the private sector and Intuitive Machines has lunar missions planned for 2024 with the IM-2 having a launch window that could be around February.



Rocket Lab had <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/24/12/42646240/rocket-lab-ends-2024-with-16th-launch-stock-gains">16 Electron rocket launches</a> in 2024, setting a new annual record and beating the 10 achieved in 2023. The company has future NASA missions to the Moon and Mars and a private commercial mission to Venus among its pipeline rocket deals.



AST SpaceMobile deployed its first five BlueBird satellites as it works to bring space-based broadband to people around the world. The company also <a href="https://x.com/AST_SpaceMobile/status/1871530794076004768">announced </a>Google and Verizon as strategic partners and signed commercial agreements with AT&amp;T and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42390726/ast-spacemobile-secures-long-term-vodafone-deal-to-boost-global-coverage">Vodafone in 2024.</a>

The Federal Reserve announced the vice chair for supervision Michael Barr, a strong advocate for tighter banking regulations, will step down from his role in February but will retain his seat on the Board of Governors.



&#8220;The risk of a dispute over the position could be a distraction from our mission,&#8221; Barr stated, alluding to potential clashes with the incoming administration&#8217;s inclination toward looser banking regulations. Wall Street Rallies, Chipmakers Soar Ahead Of Nvidia's Huang Speech, Bitcoin Reclaims $100,000: What's Driving Markets Monday?

NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) stock hit new all-time highs Monday as investors and analysts size up the company's new products and growth opportunities that will be key storylines at <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42775636/ces-2025-preview-nvidia-amd-in-spotlight-other-trends-and-stocks-to-watch">this year's CES conference.</a>



The NVDA Analyst: Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya reiterated a Buy rating on Nvidia with a $190 price target.



The NVDATakeaways: Nvidia updates on its AI and robotics growth and the unveiling of the new Nvidia 5000 series graphics cards are among the key catalysts for the stock after CES, Arya said in a new investor note.



The analyst named Nvidia the top sector pick ahead of a keynote presentation by CEO Jensen Huang <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/24/10/41234323/jensen-huang-to-keynote-ces-2025-as-true-visionary-in-the-tech-industry-how-much-did-nvidia-stock-ri">on Monday night.</a>



The keynote and other presentations could highlight Nvidia's presence in many of the CES trending topic areas including robotics, gaming, PC and artificial intelligence, the analyst said. &nbsp;



Arya said the key question is how quickly the new products will help shareholders.



"The challenge in our view is however making the products reliable enough, cheap enough and pervasive enough to spawn credible business models," Arya said.



The analyst said robotics could be a "cool but niche opportunity" similar to the metaverse and autonomous cars that could take time to reward shareholders.



"While we don't doubt NVDA's capabilities, we are unsure as to when and how fast they can influence NVDA's financials." &nbsp;



The analyst said CES remains a "positive catalyst" for Nvidia that can show the company's dominance and opportunity in growth markets.



Arya said Nvidia's new products could help the company continue its strong pace of year-over-year sales growth.



"NVDA's 50%+ YoY sales growth in CY25E YoY could be the fastest in the S&amp;P 500 index, based on current consensus."



The analyst said Nvidia trades at around 30 times its forward price-to-earnings ratio, compared to a historical trading range of 25x to 35x, making the stock attractive while trading in the middle of the range.



NVDA Price Action: Nvidia stock is up 4.49% to $150.96 on Monday versus a 52-week trading range of $49.48 to $152.89. Nvidia shares hit new all-time highs earlier Monday morning and are up over 190% over the last year.

Biden will use powers given under the 1953 Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act which allows the president to indefinitely withdraw unleased lands from the outer continental shelf.&nbsp; The withdrawal of the lands has no expiration date and President-elect Donald Trump will likely not be able to reverse the protections without an act of Congress.&nbsp;



Trump pledged to increase domestic energy and fossil fuel production during his campaign and Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the Trump Vance transition team, took to social media to speak out against President Biden's decision.&nbsp;



"This is a disgraceful decision designed to exact political revenge on the American people who gave President Trump a mandate to increase drilling and lower gas prices. Rest assured, Joe Biden will fail, and we will drill, baby, drill," Leavitt posted on X.&nbsp;

The U.S. Treasury has unveiled its final guidance on the 45V Production Tax Credit, setting the stage for a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/hydrogen">greener hydrogen future</a>. 



According to JPMorgan analyst Bill Peterson, these long-awaited rules could unlock stalled projects and reinvigorate the hydrogen industry, with Plug Power Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLUG#NASDAQ">PLUG</a>) among the companies standing to benefit.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Flexibility To Fuel Growth</h2>



The Treasury's revisions address three critical pillars of green hydrogen: additionality, time matching and deliverability. Projects now have a three-year window to connect clean energy sources to hydrogen plants, providing much-needed flexibility. Clean energy definitions have also expanded and now include select nuclear reactors and renewable methane pathways.



Crucially, the inclusion of retired-but-revived nuclear reactors aligns with Plug Power's advocacy during the public comment period.



In a significant shift, hydrogen producers have been granted an additional two years before strict hourly time matching rules take effect in 2030. This phased approach reflects the challenges of integrating nascent renewable infrastructure and offers producers a smoother transition.

Hydrogen's Green Light Moment: Will PLUG Power Up?

President-elect Donald Trump's transition team is reworking his universal tariff proposal, signaling potential upheaval in global trade as markets brace for his inauguration on Jan. 20.



According to an <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2025/01/06/trump-tariff-economy-trade/">exclusive report</a> by The Washington Post published Monday, the new approach focuses on specific sectors deemed critical to U.S. economic and national security, marking a watered-down version of his 2024 campaign pledge for blanket duties on all imports.



While the plan's final structure remains undecided, early discussions suggest tariffs could target industries such as defense materials, medical supplies and energy production.



If enacted, these tariffs could still significantly disrupt global trade, elevate consumer prices and potentially produce wide-ranging impacts on the U.S. dollar.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Trump&#8217;s Tariff Playbook: Targeted But Aggressive</h3>



Instead of implementing a sweeping tax on all imports, discussions among Trump aides suggest that tariffs could be limited to specific sectors. Industries under consideration reportedly include:

<li>Defense materials: steel, aluminum, copper</li>



<li>Medical supplies: syringes, vials, pharmaceutical components</li>



<li>Energy production: batteries, rare earth minerals, solar panels</li>

The plan appears designed to avoid widespread consumer price shocks that would accompany a blanket tariff on all imports. Still, the policy is being framed as an aggressive move to incentivize domestic manufacturing, a central goal of Trump's trade agenda.



A member of Trump's team described the approach to The Washington Post as a more politically viable way to kick off the administration&#8217;s trade agenda.



"The sector-based universal tariff is a little bit easier for everybody to stomach out the gate," the source said. "And it would still give CEOs a massive incentive to start making their products here."



While the revised strategy may appear more focused, it is no less ambitious. 



Trump's advisers view these measures as a cornerstone of their efforts to bring manufacturing jobs back to U.S. soil. 



Yet, the economic fallout could be significant. Liberal and conservative critics argue that the plan could still raise costs for domestic producers reliant on imported components, driving up prices for consumers and businesses alike.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Will Tariffs Hit In Trump's First 48 Hours?</h3>



Markets are closely watching how quickly Trump will move to implement his tariff strategy once inaugurated. CFTC-regulated Kalshi markets estimate a 49% chance that global tariffs will be announced within the first 48 hours of his presidency, by January 23.



Kalshi data also breaks down the likelihood of tariffs targeting specific trade partners. China leads the list at 45%, followed by Canada at 32%, Brazil at 29% and Mexico at 25%.



China is no stranger to Trump's tariff agenda. During his first term, Trump imposed duties on more than $360 billion worth of Chinese goods, citing trade imbalances and intellectual property concerns. 



Trump's new focus on critical sectors may still escalate tensions with America's largest trade partner.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Goldman Sachs Sees Tariffs Boosting The Dollar</h3>



Goldman Sachs analysts suggest new tariffs could strengthen the U.S. dollar throughout 2025.



"We expect the Dollar to be ‘stronger for longer' in 2025. Tariff risks and divergent growth prospects will eventually allow the Dollar to strengthen," Kamakshya Trivedi, forex strategist at Goldman said in a recent note.



Trivedi indicated that tariffs directly influence exchange rates by altering the cost of international production.



Historically, Goldman's data shows the U.S. dollar index – as tracked by the  Invesco DB USD Index Bullish Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UUP#NYSE">UUP</a>) – has appreciated 2.5% for every unexpected $100 billion in U.S. tariff revenue from China, equivalent to a 20 percentage point tariff increase.



The analyst highlighted that foreign exchange markets often struggle to fully price in tariff risks ahead of time due to uncertainty over policy implementation and potential retaliation.

Trump's Universal Tariff Plans Take Shape, Analysts Expect 'Stronger For Longer' Greenback

On Monday, Uber Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UBER#NYSE">UBER</a>) announced it has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/01/b42810225/uber-announces-1-5-billion-accelerated-share-repurchase-program." rel="noreferrer noopener">entered into an accelerated share repurchase</a> (ASR) agreement with Bank of America to repurchase $1.5 billion worth of stock as part of its previously authorized $7 billion share repurchase program, initially approved in February 2024.



Under the agreement, Uber will receive approximately 18.6 million shares, representing about 80% of the expected total repurchase.



The final number of shares to be retired will be determined based on the volume-weighted average price during the agreement&#8217;s term. The transaction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.

CFO Prashanth Mahendra-Rajah emphasized that Uber&#8217;s stock is undervalued relative to its business performance and described the ASR as a strategic move to enhance shareholder value.



&#8220;We are entering 2025 with considerable momentum and expect to continue scaling our free cash flows significantly, enabling us to return meaningful capital to shareholders while still investing in growth,&#8221; stated Prashanth Mahendra-Rajah.

In October, Uber reported fiscal third-quarter 2024 revenue growth of 20% year-on-year to $11.188 billion, beating the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/10/b41648557/uber-announces-results-for-third-quarter-2024" rel="noreferrer noopener">analyst consensus of $10.97 billion</a>. It clocked a GAAP EPS of 46 cents and an adjusted EPS of 46 cents, which beat the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">analyst consensus of 41 cents</a>.



Its Gross Bookings grew 16% year-over-year&nbsp;to $40.97 billion. Mobility Gross Bookings were $21.00 billion, up 17% year-over-year; Delivery Gross Bookings were $18.66 billion, up 16%; and Freight Gross Bookings were $1.31 billion, up 2% year-over-year.



Trips grew 17% year-over-year to 2.9 billion, or 31 million per day. Uber&#8217;s Monthly Active Platform Consumers reached 161 million, up 13% year-over-year.

U.S. stock futures advanced on Monday after ending their <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/01/42796485/goodbye-santa-rally-tesla-falters-on-deliveries-investors-flee-bonds-ahead-of-trumps-second-term-this-week-in-the-market">losing </a>streak on Friday. Futures of all four major indices rose in premarket trade.



This is yet another truncated week as the U.S. stock markets will remain closed for former President Jimmy Carter&#8217;s &#8220;National Day of Mourning&#8221; on Thursday, Jan. 9.



The 10-year and two-year Treasury notes yielded 4.61% and 4.27%, respectively. The economic week ahead is chockful of labor market indicators for November and December. Ed Yardeni of Yardeni Research said, &#8220;We&#8217;re expecting them to beat expectations. As long as corporate earnings continue to reach new record highs, companies are likely to hire more workers and increase real wages.&#8221;



&#8220;The Q4-2024 earnings reporting season is about to start, led by the big banks. We expect that during their conference calls, company managements will discuss how AI may be starting to boost their productivity. In effect, they&#8217;ll be trying to convince investors that every company is now a technology company either producing AI hardware and software or using them,&#8221; added Yardeni.



Talking further about earnings, Louis Navellier of Navellier and Associates said, &#8220;Stocks, thankfully, trade on earnings prospects, and those remain solid. The tech giants steering the market generate massive cash flows and are affected little by interest rate levels.&#8221;



&#8220;The AI potential is very real in terms of promising major productivity gains, though that may come from meaningful reductions in employment needed to get the same functions accomplished,&#8221; he added.

On Sunday, Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) backed OpenAI CEO Sam Altman disclosed that the company is currently operating at a loss on its $200 per month ChatGPT Pro plan.



Although the plan was designed to generate revenue, it is not producing the profits OpenAI had anticipated. Altman shared his thoughts on the issue through a <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/sama" rel="noreferrer noopener">series of posts on X</a>, stating that the price was set under the assumption that it would help the company earn revenue, but usage has exceeded their expectations.

OpenAI launched ChatGPT Pro late last year to offer its users an upgraded experience. Internal testing showed a 34% reduction in major errors on difficult questions compared to the preview version.&nbsp;

The latest funding is said to be one of the largest private investments ever alongside&nbsp;SpaceX and TikTok parent&nbsp;ByteDance.
