Tuesday began as a calm day on Wall Street, but markets swiftly turned negative after the Institute for Supply Management released data highlighting an unexpected surge in price pressures within the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/01/42850914/us-services-sector-growth-tops-forecasts-but-price-pressures-tariff-concerns-cloud-outlook">service sector for December.</a> 



The report reignited fears over persistent inflation and mounting concerns over the economic fallout from tariffs.



The ISM&#8217;s Services PMI rose to 54.1% in December, surpassing expectations and marking the third-highest reading of 2024. This figure signals continued expansion in the services industry. 



Yet the Prices Index, which reflects input costs for service providers, jumped sharply to 64.4%, up from 58.2% in November, significantly outpacing consensus estimates of 57.5%. This was the highest print since February 2023 and a clear sign that inflationary pressures are not easing as anticipated.



By midday, all major stock indices were trading lower. The Nasdaq 100 was hit particularly hard as rising Treasury yields soured risk sentiment, putting pressure on growth-oriented technology stocks. The yield on the 30-year Treasury bond surged by 6 basis points to 4.91%, its highest level since November 2023, reflecting growing unease in the bond market. 



The sell-off extended to bond ETFs, with the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) falling by 1% on the day.



Amid this broader market weakness, only a handful of sectors managed to resist the selling pressure. Energy, materials and financials emerged as the outperformers.



In the commodities market, oil prices rebounded after earlier losses this week. West Texas Intermediate light crude climbed 1% to settle at $73.70 per barrel, recovering from Monday&#8217;s decline, while natural gas prices plunged 5%.



Precious metals saw modest gains, with gold up 0.6% and copper rising 1.1%, reflecting a cautious shift toward safer assets.



The rally in cryptocurrencies came to a sudden halt. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) dropped 5% to $97,000, poised to snap a six-session winning streak.

Stocks Sink As Bond Yields Soar, Nvidia Eyes Worst Day In 4 Months, Bitcoin Tumbles To $97,000: What's Driving Markets Tuesday?

A stronger lending environment, stable credit and renewed confidence in valuations could set the stage for a multiyear rally on U.S. regional banks, with some analysts predicting up to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/regional-banks">20% upside in 2025.</a>



Three major investment banks — JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co., Bank of America and Goldman Sachs — released fresh outlooks on regional banks Tuesday, issuing rating changes, top stock picks and sector recommendations for 2025.



Overall, analysts at all three firms are optimistic. Goldman Sachs analyst Ryan Nash, for example, highlighted several factors likely to improve sector fundamentals in 2025:

<li>Loan Growth Recovery: While still slow, loan growth is expected to accelerate to 6%-7% by the second half of 2025 as corporations resume borrowing.</li>



<li>Net Interest Income Growth: A steeper yield curve and the repricing of fixed-rate assets are anticipated to boost NII. Nash expects margins to expand from the current 3.03% to 3.31% in 2025.</li>



<li>Fee Income Rebound: Treasury management, payments, and capital markets are set to improve, helping banks diversify revenue streams.</li>



<li>Stable Credit Conditions: Credit losses, measured by net charge-offs, are projected to remain flat or decline, while reserves could decrease as economic clarity improves.</li>

According to Nash, the stocks of regional banks are trading at approximately 11.5 times estimated 2025 earnings—near their historical averages but with room for valuation expansion. 



The sector could generate returns on tangible common equity of 14%-15%, compared to 16% pre-2023.



This suggests the group could rise as much as 20% next year, according to Goldman Sachs, assuming the market gains confidence in forward earnings.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Goldman Sachs: Upgrades Zions, Downgrades Comerica</h3>



Goldman Sachs upgraded Zions Bancorp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ZION#NASDAQ">ZION</a>) from Neutral to Buy. The firm predicts a significant upside for the stock, with shares potentially reaching $70 in 2025.



Goldman downgraded Comerica Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CMA#NYSE">CMA</a>) from Buy to Neutral, citing challenges in deposit management, fee income pressure, and elevated expense growth. Comerica's margins are expected to improve in 2025. But Nash sees limited upside, with shares already trading near their fair value of $70.



Goldman's top picks for 2025 include Truist Financial Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TFC#NYSE">TFC</a>), Regions Financial Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RF#NYSE">RF</a>), KeyCorp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KEY#NYSE">KEY</a>) and Citizens Financial Group Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CFG#NYSE">CFG</a>).



Analysts remain positive on Fifth Third Bancorp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FITB#NASDAQ">FITB</a>), Huntington Bancshares Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HBAN#NASDAQ">HBAN</a>) and First Citizens BancShares Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FCNCA#NASDAQ">FCNCA</a>).



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The Case For Valuation Upside</h3>



JPMorgan Chase analysts are similarly bullish, indicating that regional banks are trading at just 1.4x their projected 2025 tangible book value, below the 1.8-2x historical range.



Anthony Elian, a JPMorgan analyst, said regional banks&#8217; valuations appear favorable relative to the broader market.



&#8220;While inflation remains above target, the steeper yield curve coupled with gradual rate cuts should serve as a favorable backdrop for regional banks,&#8221; Elian said. 



He expects the sector to attract more interest from generalist investors in 2025, further supporting valuations.



JPMorgan identified several regional banks with strong upside potential, including First Horizon Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FHN#NYSE">FHN</a>), Synovus Financial Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SNV#NYSE">SNV</a>) and Pinnacle Financial Partners Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PNFP#NASDAQ">PNFP</a>). These names are expected to benefit from rebounding loan demand, robust deposit bases, and favorable capital return dynamics.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Improving Regulatory Environment </h3>



Bank of America analyst Ebrahim H. Poonawala also indicated that regional banks are poised to outperform the broader market in 2025, citing stronger earnings growth, discounted valuations, and a more predictable regulatory environment.



While Wells Fargo &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WFC#NYSE">WFC</a>) remains BofA's top pick, the bank also flagged KeyCorp and Huntington Bancshares Inc. as preferred names within regional banks.



The analyst highlighted a favorable backdrop for small- and mid-cap regional banks, particularly those with exposure to rebounding loan demand and capital return opportunities. 



Among these, BofA sees First Horizon Corp. and Synovus as potentially strong performers.



Bank of America highlights that looser regulation is a positive tailwind for the sector.



&#8220;Headlines tied to regulatory&nbsp;changes&nbsp;(once Trump appointees take charge)&nbsp;could kick-in as a positive catalyst&nbsp;for stocks,&#8221; Poonawala said. 



&#8220;We see Fed Vice Chair Michael Barr&#8216;s decision to step down from his position as vice chair of supervision as the opening act.&nbsp;End to Fed&#8217;s QT&nbsp;program&nbsp;could also&nbsp;serve&nbsp;as a positive for deposit growth/pricing,&#8221; he added. 



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Market Reactions</h3>



The SPDR S&amp;P Regional Banking ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KRE#NYSE">KRE</a>) was 0.4% lower on Tuesday, while the Invesco KBW Bank ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KBWB#NASDAQ">KBWB</a>) rose by 0.5%.

Are Regional Banks The Next Big Opportunity? Why Wall Street Analysts Expect Multiyear Rally

Social media giant Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) is turning the page on content moderation, as it prepares to work with President-elect Donald Trump, four years after banning him<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/02/30848473/trumps-back-on-facebook-and-instagram-for-real"> from its platforms.</a>



What Happened: Meta Platforms CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg shared in a video that the company's social media platforms will soon be following<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/community-notes"> the Community Notes</a> style of content moderation put in place by Elon Musk's X.



"It's time to get back to our roots around free expression on Facebook and Instagram," Zuckerberg <a href="https://about.fb.com/news/2025/01/meta-more-speech-fewer-mistakes/">said </a>in a video.



Zuckerberg acknowledged that he built social media platforms for people and a lot of censorship has happened over the years, which included accidentally censoring people who should not have been.



Meta will work on prioritizing speech, focus on reducing mistakes and restore free expression, Zuckerberg added.



Zuckerberg laid out a multi-point plan, which includes.

Zuckerberg said that legacy media&#8217;s coverage of misinformation after Trump's 2016 election became increasingly biased. "It's gone too far," he added.



Community notes will be phased into Meta's operations, beginning with the United States.



Zuckerberg said Meta currently has filters that scan for policy violations and shut content down. Under the new plan, filters will scan for the top issues, and the system will rely on users to report lower-level violations.



The Meta CEO said this will dramatically lower the level of censorship on the platforms.



Zuckerberg acknowledged that there would be a trade-off with less bad stuff caught by filters, but less positive stuff would be taken down by accident.



The Meta CEO said Europe has made things difficult for social media and China has censored the company's apps from working in the country.



"We're going to work with President Trump."



Zuckerberg said it is time to simplify the system and get back to Meta's roots.



"We have the opportunity to restore free expression and I am excited to take it."

Why It's Important: Meta's change comes as the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/25/01/42779753/mark-zuckerbergs-meta-replaces-global-affairs-chief-nick-clegg-with-republican-joel-kaplan-ahead-of-trump-inauguration">company recently announced</a> that Joel Kaplan, a former Republican White House Deputy Chief of Staff under George W. Bush, will become the company's head of global affairs.



Kaplan replaces Nick Clegg, who was instrumental in deciding on Trump being banned on platforms like Facebook and Instagram.



In Tuesday&#8217;s content moderation announcement, Kaplan revealed that Meta removed millions of pieces of content daily in December. However, he acknowledged that one to two out of every 10 removals may have been mistakes, involving content that should not have been taken down.



Zuckerberg's announcements come as his former tense relationship with Trump has appeared to improve. Zuckerberg <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/24/11/42227958/mark-zuckerberg-and-trump-reportedly-met-at-mar-a-lago">met with Trump </a>at Mar-a-Lago in November and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/12/42454227/months-after-trump-threatened-to-put-mark-zuckerberg-in-prison-meta-ceo-donates-1m-to-president-elects-inaugural-event">recently donated $1 million</a> to his inauguration fund.



Trump previously threatened to put Zuckerberg in jail over his past handling of the president on Facebook and Instagram.



Zuckerberg's announcement also comes after Meta announced three new people added to the company's Board of Directors, including Trump-ally Dana White.



One question will be whether Musk approves copying the Community Notes moderation style. Musk previously took exception to Zuckerberg's launch of Threads, which copied many elements of X. The launch led to calls for a cage fight between the two billionaires.



X CEO Linda Yaccarino celebrated the announcement Tuesday.



"COMMUNITY NOTES FTW! Fact-checking and moderation doesn't belong in the hands of a few select gatekeepers who can easily inject their bias into decisions. It's a democratic process that belongs in the hands of many," Yaccarino <a href="https://x.com/lindayaX/status/1876612826456019145">tweeted</a>.



Yaccarino said this is a "smart move by Zuck" and she believes other platforms will follow X's lead.



META Price Action: Meta stock is down 3.1% to $610.77 on Tuesday versus a 52-week trading range of $352.05 to $638.40. Meta stock is up 74% over the last year.

Meta Drops Fact-Checking For Community Notes: Zuckerberg Sees 'Opportunity To Restore Free Expression'

Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) saw its stock price climb to fresh all-time highs in Tuesday's premarket trading following its show-stopping presentation at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, where the company unveiled a bold vision for the future of artificial <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/25/01/42838231/jensen-huang-unveils-3000-personal-ai-supercomputer-the-size-of-a-small-book-it-runs-the-entire-nvidia-ai-stack">intelligence (AI) and robotics. </a>



Founder and CEO Jensen Huang delivered a keynote Monday that emphasized Physical AI as the next frontier for the robotics industry, likening the moment to what ChatGPT represented for natural language processing. 



In a note shared Tuesday, Goldman Sachs analyst Toshiya Hari reiterated his Buy rating on Nvidia stock, which is also on the firm's Conviction List.



"We believe today's string of announcements, at a minimum, highlights the company's ability to innovate at industry-leading speed across hardware and software as well as its robust partner and customer ecosystem," Hari said. 



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">A New Standard In Gaming And Computing Power</h3>



Central to Nvidia's CES announcements was the launch of its RTX Blackwell family of GPUs, which includes the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5070. 



These next-generation GPUs are poised to redefine gaming and creative computing, offering unprecedented performance gains.



The RTX 5090, which features 92 billion transistors and 3,352 AI TOPS of computing power, is designed to deliver 2x the performance of the RTX 4090, thanks to AI-driven rendering technology. This advancement allows the GPU to generate three frames for every one rendered, dramatically boosting frame rates.



For budget-conscious gamers, Nvidia introduced the RTX 5070 at $549, which promises performance equivalent to the current RTX 4090, a GPU priced at $1,599. 



According to Huang, this family of GPUs demonstrates Nvidia's focus on driving down the cost of compute as models, including OpenAI's o1 and o3 and Google's Gemini Pro, continue to increase in complexity.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Physical AI: The &#8220;Largest Technology Industry the World's Ever Seen&#8221;</h3>



Huang's keynote went beyond GPUs, focusing heavily on Physical AI—a domain encompassing robotics, autonomous systems, and real-world AI applications. 



According to Hari, Nvidia is positioning itself to lead what Huang described as "the largest technology industry the world's ever seen."



Nvidia&#8217;s strategy is grounded in three key scaling laws:

<li>Post-training scaling, which enhances models through reinforcement learning.</li>

Nvidia introduced Cosmos, an open platform designed to democratize physical AI development for applications like autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots. 



Hari said, "Cosmos (which NVDA has made available under an open model license) democratizes the development process through synthetic data for training and evaluation."



The platform also integrates with Nvidia's Omniverse, enabling developers to simulate AI scenarios—such as snowy roads or crowded warehouses—without relying on real-world data collection.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Llama Nemotron And The Future Of Robotics</h3>



In collaboration with Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>), Nvidia unveiled the Llama Nemotron Language Foundation Models, designed for enterprise AI applications such as fraud detection and customer support. 



Hari highlighted, "These models are optimized for Agentic AI for enterprises and provide options for different scale deployments."



Hari indicated that the development of humanoid robots hinges on processing imitation information, which Nvidia aims to accelerate using its Omniverse platform.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Market Reactions And Goldman Sachs&#8217; Nvidia Outlook </h3>



Shares of Nvidia were up 2.3% to $152 during Tuesday&#8217;s premarket trading , poised to open the session at record highs.



Goldman Sachs holds a 12-month price target of $165 on Nvidia, based on a 50x multiple of its normalized EPS estimate of $3.30.

Nvidia Hits Record Highs On CES AI Breakthroughs: Goldman Stays Bullish

U.S. auto safety regulator National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Tuesday said that it is opening an investigation into about 2.6 million Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) vehicles equipped with the company&#8217;s full self-driving driver assistance technology following a complaint alleging that the use of its &#8220;Actually Smart Summon&#8221; feature led to a crash.



What Happened: The regulator said that it received a complaint about the Actually Smart Summon feature leading to a crash and it subsequently reviewed at least three media reports of similar crashes. In all four incidents, the Tesla vehicle failed to detect posts or parked vehicles, it said.



Tesla, however, has not reported any crashes during the use of the feature though rules mandate reporting for crashes involving automated driving systems on publicly accessible roads, the regulator said. 



Actually Smart Summon refers to a feature that allows a user to remotely move the vehicle towards themselves or to another nearby location such as a parking lot through the company&#8217;s phone app.



&#8220;ODI is aware of multiple crash allegations, involving both Smart Summon and Actually Smart Summon, where the user had too little reaction time to avoid a crash, either with the available line of sight or releasing the phone app button, which stops the vehicle's movement,&#8221; the regulator said.



The probe, NHTSA said, will investigate Actually Smart Summon&#8217;s capabilities while also evaluating the top speed that a vehicle can attain while the feature is engaged. The NHTSA will also evaluate the restrictions in place for use of the feature on public roads and line of sight requirements, it said. 



Why It Matters: Tesla started rolling out Actually Smart Summon to vehicles in the U.S. in early September. The company also <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42479639/tesla-launches-actually-smart-summon-feature-in-china-ahead-of-fsd-rollout-in-early-2025">launched the feature on its vehicles in China</a> in December. 



The newly announced probe is the second probe by the regulator into Tesla in less than six months. 



In October, NHTSA opened an investigation into<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/10/41398764/nhtsa-opens-probe-into-2-4m-tesla-vehicles-after-reports-of-4-crashes-with-fsd-involved"> 2.4 million Tesla vehicles</a> following reports of four crashes where its&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tesla-fsd" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">full self-driving</a>&nbsp;(FSD) partial driving automation system was engaged.



The regulator then said that it had identified four crash reports in which a Tesla experienced a crash after entering an area of "reduced roadway visibility" with FSD engaged. The reduced visibility, the regulator said, was caused by sun glare, fog, or airborne dust.



In one of the crashes, the vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian, the regulator added.

NHTSA Opens Probe Into 2.6 Million Tesla Vehicles After Complaint Of Crashes Linked To Actually Smart Summon Feature

Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) and Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) spot ETFs experienced a surge in inflows on Jan. 6, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/01/42811507/bitcoin-ethereum-solana-institutional-investment-inflows-hit-record-442b-in-2024-nearly-quadrupling-previous-high">totaling nearly $1.2 billion.</a>



What Happened: Bitcoin ETFs alone saw $987 million in net inflows, with Fidelity's (CBOE: FBTC) leading at $370 million and BlackRock's (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IBIT#NASDAQ">IBIT</a>) securing $209 million.



Ethereum ETFs received a net inflow of $129 million, according to <a href="https://sosovalue.com/assets/etf/us-btc-spot?from=moved">data</a> from SoSo Value.



The Ethereum spot ETF market now has a total net asset value of $13.466 billion, with Blackrock's (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ETHA#NASDAQ">ETHA</a>) ETF receiving $124 million alone.



The increased ETF activity coincides with Bitcoin's spot price premium on Coinbase (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COIN#NASDAQ">COIN</a>), which analysts at QCP Capital suggest indicates a possible increase in institutional allocations toward Bitcoin ahead of 2025. 



This activity is further supported by positive regulatory narratives, notably the potential for a pro-crypto Prime Minister in Canada, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42837792/bitcoin-supportive-pierre-poilievre-leads-polymarket-odds-to-become-canadas-prime-minister-after-elections-as-justin-trudeau-resigns">according to</a> Polymarket predictions.

What Experts Are Saying: Despite these positive trends, QCP Capital also warns of potential market volatility due to the impending reinstatement of the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/12/42713140/us-government-has-less-than-3-weeks-to-raise-debt-ceiling-before-resorting-to-extraordinary-measures-says-treasury-secretary-yellen">U.S. Treasury debt ceiling</a> mid-January.

Bitcoin Spot ETF Inflows Hit $987 Million But Watch This Mid-January Fiscal Deadline

U.S. stocks could open on a tentative note on Tuesday after the averages closed on a mixed note on Monday. Despite a rally in AI stocks and chip-making companies, futures were mixed on Tuesday, pointing at cautiousness among investors.



On investors' radar will be AI bellwether Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>), Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>), Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MU#NASDAQ">MU</a>), and Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TM#NYSE">TM</a>), among others.

In premarket trading on Tuesday, the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) edged up by 0.12% to $596.08 and the Invesco QQQ ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>) declined 0.03% to $524.40, according to<a href="https://benzinga.grsm.io/lxquj26b2sag"> Benzinga Pro data</a>.



Cues From Last Session:



U.S. stocks ended Monday on a mixed note, with Nasdaq and S&amp;P 500 closing the day in green, while the Dow Jones registered a decline.



Crude oil prices remained under the $75 mark but continued to edge up due to concerns about strained supply.



Chipmakers led the rally after Foxconn reported record fourth-quarter revenue. Nvidia shares rose 3.4%, while Micron Technology surged 10.5%, marking some of the session&#8217;s strongest performances.



Treasury yields edged up again as investors await Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell's speech on the economic outlook.



On the economic data front, the U.S. annual inflation rate rose to 2.6% in October from 2.4% in the previous month, in line with market estimates. The CPI rose 0.2% month-over-month in October.



Most sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a positive note, with consumer discretionary, energy, and real estate stocks recording the biggest gains on Monday.



However, information technology and communication services stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session lower.

Insights From Analysts:



WisdomTree and Wharton School economist Jeremy Siegel underscored that one of the reasons for the tentative markets is uncertainty surrounding President-elect Donald Trump's economic policies.



"The market expects immediate action on tariffs, though implementation will take months. Regulatory skepticism for big tech persists, raising questions about the growth potential in this key sector," he said.



Siegel also observed the reliance of markets on AI and tech stocks, noting that the signs of market rotation to other sectors are "still notably absent."



"I could see a market correction in the broad market and a bear market in the Nasdaq if our long-waited market rotation occurs, but the catalyst for this rotation has yet to arrive."



Analysts at the BlackRock Investment Institute <a href="https://www.blackrock.com/us/individual/insights/blackrock-investment-institute/weekly-commentary">echoed</a> similar sentiments while noting that this overreliance on AI and tech stocks could be causing some jitters in the markets.



"Our overweight is grounded in the artificial intelligence (AI) theme, robust economic growth and broadening earnings growth. Soaring tech valuations and the concentration of returns in just a few tech companies caused some market jitters."



Despite this, they observed that this is a feature, not a flaw.

US Stocks Could Open On A Tentative Note; Nvidia, AMD And Toyota On Investors' Radar: Experts Flag Over Reliance On AI, Tech Stocks

On Monday evening, Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) CEO Jensen Huang delivered the keynote at CES 2025. 



What Happened: The keynote was live-streamed from Mandalay Bay Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The venue typically accommodates 12,000 people, but Nvidia reportedly intended to pack in up to 14,000 by using the arena&#8217;s center space.

The keynote&#8217;s highlight was the introduction of the latest GeForce RTX 5000 Graphic cards series, which include the $1,999 RTX 5090, $999 RTX 5080, $749 RTX 5070 Ti, and $549 RTX 5070.

Nvidia will release the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs on January 30, with the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 launching shortly after. They will feature a redesigned Founders Edition with two double flow-through fans, a 3D vapor chamber, and GDDR7 memory.



The RTX 5090 Founders Edition is a two-slot GPU designed to fit into compact PC builds. It comes with 32GB of GDDR7 memory, a memory bandwidth of 1,792GB/sec, and an impressive 21,760 CUDA cores.&nbsp;



According to Nvidia, this GPU will be twice as fast as the RTX 4090, thanks to the advancements of DLSS 4 and the Blackwell architecture.

Huang also introduced its RTX 50-series to laptops, with the $2,899 RTX 5090 laptop GPU featuring 24GB of GDDR7 memory at launch. The $2,199 RTX 5080 laptop GPU will include 16GB of GDDR7 memory, the $1,599 RTX 5070 Ti will have 12GB, and the $1,299 RTX 5070 will come with 8GB of GDDR7 memory.



These RTX 50-series laptops will be available starting in March from various PC manufacturers.

Huang also unveiled the Grace Blackwell NVLink 72, which boasts 72 Blackwell GPUs, 2,592 Grace CPU cores, and 130 trillion transistors.

This system, offering four times the performance per watt, will play a crucial role in powering Agentic AIs that use test-time scaling for real-time reasoning and decision-making.



In a light moment during the keynote, Huang tried to embody his inner Captain America and re-created the iconic moment from "Avengers Endgame," and laughed saying, "I thought I was worthy."

What Happened: Bitcoin soared above $100,000 for the first time since Dec. 19, ending weeks of choppy price action just below the key level.



The rally was bolstered by MicroStrategy Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>) and Metaplanet, popularly referred to as "Asia's MicroStrategy," as both companies <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/01/42814054/microstrategy-extends-bitcoin-buying-streak-metaplanet-aims-for-10000-btc-war-chest">acquired more Bitcoin</a> for their reserves.



Additionally, Bernstein <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/01/42810885/bitcoin-to-200000-as-crypto-enters-infinity-age-in-2025-bernstein-predicts">painted a $200,000 target</a> for Bitcoin by the end of 2025, contributing to the rally.



Ethereum broke out above $3,600, reaching $3,739 for the first time in over two weeks.&nbsp;



More than $221 million was liquidated from the cryptocurrency market in the last 24 hours, with $133 million in downside bets getting wiped out.



That said, more than $1 billion in long positions risked liquidation if Bitcoin fell to $97,720.



Bitcoin's Open Interest soared 16.52% in the last 24 hours, indicating massive speculative interest for the apex cryptocurrency.



The "Extreme Greed" sentiment took over the market, according to the Crypto Fear &amp; Greed Index, raising fears of a potential correction.

A new Benzinga poll shows one stock could be among the highest-growth names in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/space-stocks">the space sector for 2025.</a>



What Happened: Investors expressed high interest in the space sector throughout 2024. Last year, Elon Musk-led SpaceX hit a new valuation<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42453807/spacex-hits-350-billion-valuation-in-insider-share-sale-ceo-elon-musk-says-no-investors-wanted-to-sell-shares"> of $350 billion.</a>



SpaceX is privately owned and harder for investors to get exposure to. But there are several space stocks that are readily available for investors. Benzinga recently asked readers:

Rocket Lab, a rival of SpaceX, won the poll with 33% of the vote. Ranking second was the answer of none of the four space stocks selected for the poll. Intuitive Machines received 24% of the vote as the second most-picked stock in the poll.

Why It's Important: The industry could benefit from a new White House administration and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/24/12/42323934/shift4-payments-stock-drops-after-ceo-jared-isaacmans-nasa-nomination-whats-going-on">expected new NASA leader</a> Jared Isaacman.



However, given that 26% of readers didn&#8217;t select any of the space stocks could suggest declining interest in the sector. Or, perhaps, valuations are high after 2024 which saw many of the stocks climb.



Here are the gains in 2024 at the time the poll was conducted.

All four companies went public via SPAC merger in recent years. They also had milestones that could show their strength in the space sector along with future growth initiatives.



Redwire <a href="https://redwirespace.com/newsroom/reaching-new-heights-redwires-top-five-moments-from-2024/">shared </a>that bioprinting human heart tissue onboard the International Space Station, a study of the sun launched in November 2024 and the acquisition of spacecraft developer Hera Systems were highlights from 2024.



In February, Intuitive made headlines for helping the U.S. achieve its first soft landing on the Moon since 1972. The feat was a first for the private sector and Intuitive Machines has lunar missions planned for 2024 with the IM-2 having a launch window that could be around February.



Rocket Lab had <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/24/12/42646240/rocket-lab-ends-2024-with-16th-launch-stock-gains">16 Electron rocket launches</a> in 2024, setting a new annual record and beating the 10 achieved in 2023. The company has future NASA missions to the Moon and Mars and a private commercial mission to Venus among its pipeline rocket deals.



AST SpaceMobile deployed its first five BlueBird satellites as it works to bring space-based broadband to people around the world. The company also <a href="https://x.com/AST_SpaceMobile/status/1871530794076004768">announced </a>Google and Verizon as strategic partners and signed commercial agreements with AT&amp;T and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42390726/ast-spacemobile-secures-long-term-vodafone-deal-to-boost-global-coverage">Vodafone in 2024.</a>

The study was conducted by Benzinga from Dec. 30, 2024 through Jan. 2 , 2025. It included the responses of a diverse population of adults 18 or older. Opting into the survey was completely voluntary, with no incentives offered to potential respondents. The study reflects results from 161 adults.

Shares of portable-generator maker Generac Holdings Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GNRC#NYSE">GNRC</a>) have gained nearly 3% in the past five days as investors anticipated the storm-related power outages and increased demand for generators.&nbsp;



FlightAware is <a href="https://www.flightaware.com/live/cancelled/">reporting</a> nearly 3,000 flight delays and more than 1,700 cancellations as the storm moves across the country Monday. Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LUV#NYSE">LUV</a>) is reporting the most cancellations with 371, followed by American Airlines Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAL#NASDAQ">AAL</a>) with 185 cancelled flights.&nbsp;



T-Mobile US, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TMUS#NASDAQ">TMUS</a>) said it took <a href="https://www.t-mobile.com/news/network/t-mobile-readies-for-winter-storm-blair">proactive measures</a> late last week, including fortifying network equipment, inspecting and fueling permanent and portable generators and reinforcing infrastructure, to ensure customers and first responders are able to stay connected throughout the storm. 



What's Next: The wintry precipitation should wind down by Tuesday, but the Weather Channel expects another winter storm later this week.&nbsp;



"The next winter storm will begin to emerge in the Southern Plains by Wednesday night and especially Thursday. It could spread snow from parts of northern Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas to other portions of the South, the Ohio Valley and possibly parts of the East by Friday or Saturday," weather.com Digital Meteorologist Chris Dolce said.&nbsp;

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has been in power for nearly 10 years, announced his resignation Monday.



Trudeau said he will step down after the Liberal Party selects its new leader and said the Parliament will be suspended until March 24.



"I care deeply about this country and I will always be motivated by what is in the best interests of Canadians. And the fact is, despite best efforts to work through it, Parliament has been paralyzed for months after what has been the longest session of a minority Parliament in Canadian history," he said.

Justin Trudeau Will Step Down As Canada Faces Tension Over Trump Tariffs

Wall Street is in full risk-on mode, as traders eagerly snap up technology stocks, particularly semiconductors, ahead of Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) CEO Jensen Huang&#8216;s speech later on Monday at the Consumer Electronics Show <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/25/01/42822846/nvidia-5000-series-product-updates-make-it-top-semiconductor-pick-ahead-of-jensen-huangs-ces-keynote-analyst">in Las Vegas.</a>



Tech-linked indices and sector outperformed by midday trading in New York. The Nasdaq 100 notched a 1.3% increase while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOXX#NASDAQ">SOXX</a>) soared by over 4%, eyeing the strongest session since mid-September.



Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MU#NASDAQ">MU</a>) shares led gains, flagging a 12% surge, on the back of expectations for strong AI demand. Nvidia rose 4.8%.



Among Monday&#8217;s notable headlines, The Washington Post reported Donald Trump&#8217;s economic team is exploring a more targeted version of its universal tariff plan, aiming to apply tariffs to specific sectors rather than implementing a broad <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42813324/trumps-universal-tariff-plans-take-shape-analysts-expect-stronger-for-longer-greenback">measure on all imports. </a>The dollar softened by 0.5% in reaction to the news.



The Federal Reserve announced the vice chair for supervision Michael Barr, a strong advocate for tighter banking regulations, will step down from his role in February but will retain his seat on the Board of Governors.



&#8220;The risk of a dispute over the position could be a distraction from our mission,&#8221; Barr stated, alluding to potential clashes with the incoming administration&#8217;s inclination toward looser banking regulations. Regional bank stocks reacted positively, with the S&amp;P SPDR Regional Banking ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KRE#NYSE">KRE</a>) rising 1.6% on Monday.



In commodities markets, natural gas prices rocketed by another 7% on the heels of an extension of cold temperatures, while oil prices slipped 0.7%, potentially snapping a 5-day winning streak. 



Sentiment turned bullish again in cryptocurrency markets, as Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) ferociously reclaimed the $100,000 mark, sending crypto-linked stocks such as Coinbase Global Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COIN#NASDAQ">COIN</a>), CleanSpark Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CLSK#NASDAQ">CLSK</a>) and Microstrategy Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>) all higher by about 6%.
