<li>Sage Therapeutics, Inc. NASDAQ: SAGE) is officially exploring "strategic alternatives" to make shareholders happy. The process includes anything from a possible business combination to a full-on sale. Who&#8217;s interested? That would be Biogen Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BIIB#NASDAQ">BIIB</a>), which submitted an unsolicited offer Sage rejected. Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Sage is known for its ZURZUVAE treatment for women with PPD. Goldman Sachs is providing financial advice and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher &amp; Flom LLP oversees legal matters. </li>
<li>Silvus Technologies, a Los Angeles-based mobile telecom owned by TJC, hired Morgan Stanley to explore a sale or initial public offering. TJC could seek a valuation of as much as $5 billion for Silvus, Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-01-30/tjc-is-said-to-weigh-sale-ipo-of-radio-tech-provider-silvus">reported</a> citing sources. TJC, aka The Jordan Company purchased Silvus in December 2019. </li>
<li>Allakos Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ALLK#NASDAQ">ALLK</a>) is shutting down its AK006 program, leading to a major downsizing — about 75% of the company will be laid off. The biotech plans to keep around 15 employees to explore strategic alternatives, which CEO Robert Alexander described as "the usual things," according <a href="https://www.fiercebiotech.com/biotech/allakos-axes-program-lays-75-staff-and-seeks-strategic-alternatives-after-phase-1-flop">to</a> Fierce Biotech. The move will significantly deplete Allakos' cash reserves, which stood at $81 million at the end of last year. The company expects to spend $34 million to $38 million on severance and restructuring costs, leaving it with just $35 million to $40 million in reserves by mid-year. The pressure is on to find a new strategic direction quickly.</li>

<li>YouTube star Jimmy Donaldson (aka MrBeast) has secured more than <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43325891/backed-by-youtube-king-mrbeast-group-of-american-investors-including-roblox-ceo-lock-in-over-20-billion-for-tiktok-takeover-but-they-have-not-heard-back-directly-from-bytedance">$20 billion</a> for a TikTok offer. An investor group, led by tech entrepreneur Jesse Tinsley, includes Roblox Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RBLX#NYSE">RBLX</a>) CEO David Baszucki and Anchorage Digital CEO Nathan McCauley as investors. Tinsley <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-01-29/tiktok-bidders-to-offer-significantly-more-than-20-billion?sref=KkPzpZvz">told</a> Bloomberg that their offer is &#8220;significantly higher&#8221; than a competing $20 billion bid. Whether Tinsley was referring to the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/25/01/42834240/kevin-oleary-joins-the-peoples-bid-for-tiktok-as-pending-ban-looms">Project Liberty bid</a> by former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt and &#8220;Shark Tank&#8221; star Kevin O'Leary is unclear. Also uncertain is whether Microsoft was seriously making a bid, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43260646/microsoft-eyes-tiktok-us-deal-as-trump-confirms-acquisition-talks-are-underway">as indicated by President Trump</a>.</li>

<li>Hewlett Packard Enterprise&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HPE#NYSE">HPE</a>) $14 billion purchase of Juniper Networks (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JNPR#NYSE">JNPR</a>) hit a roadblock. The Department of Justice is suing the tech company in what marks the first antitrust action of Trump's second term. <li>Spirit Airlines rejected a $400 million merger proposal from Frontier Group Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ULCC#NASDAQ">ULCC</a>). The offer wasn&#8217;t high enough, the bankrupt air carrier said. Spirit, considered the biggest U.S. budget airline, filed a Chapter 11 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/11/42032477/spirit-airlines-eyes-financial-stability-with-chapter-11-filing-and-equity-injection">bankruptcy petition in November</a>.</li>

<li>The chart shows that NVDA stock dipped into the support zone after earnings.&nbsp; The buying in NVDA this morning has been extremely aggressive as illustrated by the fact that NVDA traded as high as $149.40 vs. the prior high of $149.77.</li>
<li>The chart shows the NVDA bounced from the support zone to the resistance zone.</li>
<li>As of this writing, NVDA stock is very volatile.</li>
<li>In The Arora Report analysis, a tell for the stock market will be to see if NVDA stock breaks out or retraces back to the support zone.</li>
<li>Nvidia reported earnings better than the consensus numbers, better than some whisper numbers, but less than the top end of the whisper numbers.</li>

<li>Blackwell demand is likely to exceed supply in FY26.</li>
<li>Hopper demand is also very strong.</li>
<li>Nvidia is working on the next data center architecture that will improve production yields.</li>
<li>Nvidia expects enterprise AI, industrial AI, and robotics to continue to increase.</li>
<li>Nvidia beat on revenue.
<ul>
<li>Data center revenue and automotive revenue hit records.</li>
<li>Gaming revenue increased 15% from last year.</li>
<li>Professional visualization revenue increased 17% from last year.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>The fact that NVDA dips are being aggressively bought is helping the overall stock market.</li>
<li>Also helping the stock market this morning is Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) approaching $100K.</li>
<li>Sentiment is extremely positive.</li>
<li>Investors are buying stocks and cryptos with total abandon.&nbsp; If it was not for the positive seasonality and year end chase, this kind of reckless buying would have resulted in increasing the protection band because extreme positive sentiment is historically a sell signal.&nbsp; However, The Arora Report call remains to buy the dips because the year end chase is likely to trump all other factors.&nbsp; In year end chase, even bearish money managers aggressively buy stocks to keep up with their benchmarks.</li>
<li>Initial jobless claims came at 213K vs. 221K consensus.&nbsp; This indicates that the job market is very strong.&nbsp; This is another data point that shows that the Fed should not have been cutting interest rates as aggressively as it did. In the short term, the Fed's actions have poured gasoline over the fire to aggressively buy stocks and cryptos.</li>
</ul>
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">First ICBM Fired</h3>
The first operational intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) was developed by Russia in 1957, followed by development by the U.S. in 1959.&nbsp; To the best of our knowledge, Russia has fired the first ICBM in battle since its invention.&nbsp; This is Russia's response to Ukraine firing U.S. and British long range missiles on Russian territory.
In The Arora Report analysis, both Russia and Ukraine are escalating the conflict to gain an advantage before Trump stops the war.&nbsp; These developments have major implications for investors.&nbsp;
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Problem For India</h3>
Gautam Adani is the most important industrialist in India.&nbsp; He is also very closely allied with India&#8217;s Prime Minister Modi.&nbsp; The U.S. Department of Justice has just indicted Adani for bribes in solar contracts.
The Indian stock market has fallen on the news.  In The Arora Report analysis, some foreign money is going to flow out of India on this development.  The Arora Report call has been to steadily take partial profits on India positions Fairfax India Holdings Corp (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FFXDF#OTC">FFXDF</a>), WisdomTree India Earnings Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EPI#NYSE">EPI</a>), iShares MSCI India Small-Cap ETF (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SMIN#BATS">SMIN</a>), and VanEck India Growth Leaders ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLIN#NYSE">GLIN</a>).  The Arora Report&#8217;s call yesterday evening was to take more partial profits on India positions.

In the early trade, money flows are positive in Apple Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>), Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>), Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>), and NVDA.
In the early trade, money flows are neutral in Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>).
In the early trade, money flows are negative in Alphabet Inc Class C (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOG#NASDAQ">GOOG</a>).
In the early trade, money flows are positive in SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Invesco QQQ Trust Series 1 (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>).

Investors can gain an edge by knowing money flows in SPY and QQQ.  Investors can get a bigger edge by knowing when smart money is buying stocks, gold, and oil.  The most popular ETF for gold is SPDR Gold Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLD#NYSE">GLD</a>).  The most popular ETF for silver is iShares Silver Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SLV#NYSE">SLV</a>).  The most popular ETF for oil is United States Oil ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/USO#NYSE">USO</a>).

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Protection Band And What To Do Now</h3>
It is important for investors to look ahead and not in the rearview mirror.&nbsp; The proprietary protection band from The Arora Report is very popular.&nbsp; The protection band puts all of the data, all of the indicators, all of the news, all of the crosscurrents, all of the models, and all of the analysis in an analytical framework that is easily actionable by investors.
Consider continuing to hold good, very long term, existing positions. Based on individual risk preference, consider a protection band consisting of cash or Treasury bills or short-term tactical trades as well as short to medium term hedges and short term hedges. This is a good way to protect yourself and participate in the upside at the same time.
You can determine your protection bands by adding cash to hedges.&nbsp; The high band of the protection is appropriate for those who are older or conservative. The low band of the protection is appropriate for those who are younger or aggressive.&nbsp; If you do not hedge, the total cash level should be more than stated above but significantly less than cash plus hedges.
A protection band of 0% would be very bullish and would indicate full investment with 0% in cash.&nbsp; A protection band of 100% would be very bearish and would indicate a need for aggressive protection with cash and hedges or aggressive short selling.
It is worth reminding that you cannot take advantage of new upcoming opportunities if you are not holding enough cash.&nbsp; When adjusting hedge levels, consider adjusting partial stop quantities for stock positions (non ETF); consider using wider stops on remaining quantities and also allowing more room for high beta stocks.&nbsp; High beta stocks are the ones that move more than the market.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Traditional 60/40 Portfolio</h3>
Probability based risk reward adjusted for inflation does not favor long duration strategic bond allocation at this time.
Those who want to stick to traditional 60% allocation to stocks and 40% to bonds may consider focusing on only high quality bonds and bonds of five year duration or less.&nbsp; Those willing to bring sophistication to their investing may consider using bond ETFs as tactical positions and not strategic positions at this time.

Nvidia Aggressively Bought, Russia Fires First Intercontinental Ballistic Missile, Adani Indicted

Note the following:

<li>The chart shows when the Fed rate cut was announced.</li>
<li>At the time the Fed rate cut was announced, this was the landscape:
<ul>
<li>Wall Street firms were tripping over themselves to rush their clients into buying long bonds.</li>
<li>The momo crowd was aggressively buying long bonds.</li>
<li>Technically, long bonds had broken out.</li>
<li>Trading services were sending signals to their members to go all in on buying long bonds.</li>
<li>Almost everyone was predicting that bond yields would fall much lower.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Long bonds move inversely to the yield.&nbsp; When yield goes higher, long bonds fall.</li>
<li>On the morning before the Fed rate cut announcement, The Arora Report made a bold call contrary to the prevailing wisdom.  The call was inline with prior calls that long bond yields may rise and long bonds may fall after the rate cut.  We wrote:</li>
</ul>

<li>The chart shows that long bonds have fallen and yields have risen.</li>
<li>The chart shows that the breakout above the resistance zone failed.&nbsp; Ironically, this breakout was the reason legions of investors who rely only on traditional technical analysis bought long bonds on the breakout. To make matters worse, most of such bond trading positions are taken on high leverage.&nbsp; Due to high leverage, these positions now have substantial losses.
<ul>
<li>This is a cautionary tale that illustrates why investors should not rely solely on one form of analysis such as traditional technical analysis. Investors should rely on systems, such as The Arora Report system, that synergistically combine in an optimized manner the best elements of the following:

<li>Macro analysis</li>
<li>Fundamental analysis</li>
<li>Technical analysis</li>
<li>Quantitative analysis</li>
</ul>

<li>Money is flowing into the safety of Treasuries due to anxiety about potential escalation of conflict in the Middle East.&nbsp; In The Arora Report analysis, if it was not for the escalation in the Middle East, TLT would have been much lower now.</li>
<li>Going forward, investors need to remember the probability adjusted risk reward ratio in long bonds is not great.  Long bonds will work only if there is a major recession or a major war breaks out.  However, investors need to remember that the stock market is counting on no recession. Investors are suffering from cognitive dissonance – they are buying stocks believing that there will not be a recession, they are buying bonds believing there will be a recession.</li>
<li>If inflation starts rising again, investors in long bonds will experience major losses.&nbsp; Investors are very short sighted and are also losing track of the fact that the election is not far away.&nbsp; Both Trump and Harris are committed to more reckless borrowing and more reckless spending.&nbsp; This will increase the supply of Treasuries.&nbsp; How can a higher supply of Treasuries be good for long bonds?&nbsp; The answer is that it is not good for long bonds.</li>
<li>On the positive side, NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>), CEO Jensen Huang says Blackwell production is in full swing and the demand for Blackwell is insane.</li>
<li>Also on the positive side, OpenAI has raised $6.6B in new funds at a valuation of $157B.&nbsp; This valuation is significantly higher than the last round.</li>
<li>Anxiety is building among investors regarding the upcoming strike on Iran by Israel.&nbsp; There are reports that Israel wants to attack Iran's nuclear installations, but Biden is trying to restrain Israel.</li>
<li>Initial jobless claims came at 225K vs. 223K consensus.&nbsp; Jobless claims are not showing weakness in the jobs picture.&nbsp; Powell saw weakness in the jobs picture, and that was one of his justifications for the 50 bps rate cut.&nbsp; More information will become available about the jobs picture tomorrow when the official jobs report is released at 8:30am ET.&nbsp; The jobs report has the potential to be a major market moving event.</li>

On July 11, Delta Air Lines posted downbeat second-quarter earnings and issued lower-than-expected third-quarter earnings outlook. 
The company reported quarterly earnings of $2.36 per share which missed the analyst consensus estimate of $2.37 per share. The company reported quarterly sales of $16.658 billion which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $15.452 billion, according to data from <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a>.

Shannon Saccocia of NB Private Wealth named iShares U.S. Healthcare ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IYH#NYSE">IYH</a>) as <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/IYH">her final trade</a>.

CNBC Halftime Report Final Trades: Interactive Brokers Group, Delta Air Lines, Ishares MSCI India Small Cap ETF, IShares U.S. Healthcare ETF

Wall Street was upbeat in June, with the S&amp;P 500, the Dow Jones and the Nasdaq advancing 3.5%, 1.1% and 6%, respectively. The Russell 2000, however, saw a 1.1% dip. The S&amp;P 500 topped the 5,500 level for the first time last week, after hitting the 5,400 mark earlier this month and 5,300 last month, indicating investors&#39; confidence. Technology remained the best-performing sector in June.
NVIDIA&nbsp;and Amazon reached $3 trillion and $2 trillion market cap, respectively, in June. NVIDIA (which became the world&#39;s most valuable company briefly in the month), Apple&nbsp;(which also attained the height for a while) and Microsoft&nbsp;remained in the race to become the world&#39;s most valuable company.
In the last FOMC meeting early last month, U.S. policymakers penciled in just one rate cut for this year and indicated four cuts in 2025. Meanwhile, inflation data released throughout the month showed signs of easing.
The European Central Bank (ECB), too, cut its key interest rate, marking the first reduction since September 2019. This move took the rate down from its previous record of 4% to 3.75%, which has been maintained since September 2023.
Against this backdrop, below we highlight a few winning ETF areas of June.
<h2>Top ETFs by Sector in the Past Month</h2>
<h3>Crypto Miners ETFs</h3>
Valkyrie Bitcoin Miners ETF (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/wgmi#NASDAQ">WGMI</a>) &ndash; Up 22.7%
Bitcoin lost about 10% in its price in June (probably due to higher greenback), which in turn, put pressure on crypto stocks. But crypto stocks recorded gains last week as sentiments improved. Notably, the fund WGMI started an uphill ride from Jun 3 and hit a monthly high on Jun 20, after which it started to drop. Shares of companies like Hut 8 Corp (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/hut#NASDAQ">HUT</a>) jumped 66.9% in June, driving the ETF WGMI despite bitcoin&#39;s monthly slump.
<h3>Healthcare ETFs</h3>
Simplify Health Care ETF (ARCA:PINK) &ndash; Up 8.2%
The fund has exposure to companies in biotech, med-tech, gene therapy and other fast-growing healthcare-related industries. Its top holdings section is dominated by some renowned med-tech names. The industry is estimated to record $210.00 billion in 2024, according to Statista.&nbsp;
Going forward, a steady annual growth rate (CAGR 2024-2029) of 4.87% is expected for the industry, resulting in a market volume of $266.40 billion by 2029. Meanwhile, the big pharma companies are coming up with new drug data.
<h3>India ETFs</h3>
iShares MSCI India Small-Cap ETF (BATS: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/smin#BATS">SMIN</a>) &ndash; Up 7.2%
India&#39;s potential for growth makes it an attractive choice for investors. Strong private consumption is a plus for the fund. Additionally, an increasing workforce population and a surge in new business establishments are favorable. Prime minister Modi&#39;s win in the third term has finally boosted the stock market, though it initially slumped during the announcement of the election results.
<h3>Master Limited Partnerships&nbsp;ETFs</h3>
InfraCap MLP ETF (ARCA:AMZA) &ndash; Up 7%
The WTI crude ETF United States Oil Fund LP&nbsp;has advanced 4% in June. This has probably boosted MLP ETFs. MLPs catch investors&#39; eyes as these do not pay taxes at the entity level and are thus able to pay out most of their income (more than 90%) in the form of dividends like the REIT firms. The fund AMZA yields 7.30% annually.
If this was not enough, the Fed is likely to cut interest rates later this year. Since MLPs depend on a huge debt burden, if interest rates dive, MLPs will not have to pay higher for the huge chunk of borrowed money, which may, in turn, help them to raise/maintain their dividend payout ratio.

The Indian equity-tracking WisdomTree India Earnings Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EPI#NYSE">EPI</a>) has returned 9.43% so far this year. Chinese equity-tracking iShares China Large-Cap ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FXI#NYSE">FXI</a>) and Brazilian equity-tracking iShares MSCI Brazil ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EWZ#NYSE">EWZ</a>) have returned +8.61% and -9.34% over the same period.
Schwartz also noted that &#8220;interest in China has become more contentious with geopolitical headwinds and sluggish economic growth&#8221; causing investor attention to pivot towards India, as investors seek stability and growth in an increasingly uncertain global landscape.

India: Apple Creating Opportunity For Investors In Up And Coming Manufacturing Powerhouse

To say emerging markets equities and exchange traded funds have been jilted be the stronger U.S. dollar and increased speculation that a rate hike by the Federal Reserve is imminent is an understatement.

	If not for a plethora of commodities-related ETFs, emerging markets funds would have a heavy a footprint among the worst-performing ETFs over the past several months. As it is, an average loss of 14.3 percent over the past 90 days for the Vanguard FTSE Emerging Markets ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/vwo#NYSE">VWO</a>) and the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/eem#NYSE">EEM</a>), the two largest emerging markets ETFs by assets, is not going to illicit confidence among investors.

	As some single-country ETFs are proving --&nbsp;<a href="http://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/long-ideas/15/07/5715330/resisting-the-temptation-of-the-brazil-etf-bounce">think Brazil funds</a>&nbsp;--&nbsp;isolating individual developing economies has proven no more efficacious than investing in diversified funds such as EEM and VWO. Slack performances by emerging markets ETFs tracking stocks from Bangkok to Sau Paulo to Warsaw are prompting investors to think 2015 is a sequel 2013&#39;s &ldquo;taper tantrum&rdquo; when emerging equities were punished on rate hike fears.

	&ldquo;But even if we see a similar pattern this time around, it&rsquo;s important to remember that not all emerging markets are created equal. Emerging markets have become an increasingly heterogeneous asset class, and I believe those emerging economies with the following characteristics are better positioned than others to withstand capital withdrawal from financial investments,&rdquo; said BlackRock Chief Investment Strategist Russ Koesterich <a href="http://www.blackrockblog.com/2015/08/07/emerging-markets-positioned-withstand-fed-hike/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=hero&amp;utm_campaign=hero">in a recent note</a>.

	Importers</h3>

	One avenue for playing emerging markets endorsed by Koesterich is with countries that are commodities importers. Among developing economies, there is no bigger commodities importer than India. Perhaps that explains why the WisdomTree India Earnings ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/epi#NYSE">EPI</a>) is up almost 3 percent over the past 90 days, a period in which the largest Brazil ETF has plunged almost 27 percent.

	<a href="http://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/long-ideas/15/08/5730466/a-pleasant-surprise-among-emerging-market-etfs">As Benzinga reported</a> earlier this month, India small-cap ETFs, such as the Market Vectors India Small-Cap Index ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/scif#NYSE">SCIF</a>) and the iShares MSCI India Small-Cap ETF (BATS: SMIN), have been surging in recent weeks, soundly outperforming other single-country emerging markets.

	Other developing nations that have the potential to weather hawkish changes in Fed policy are those with ample foreign currency reserves and current account surpluses.

	&ldquo;One example of a market better positioned to withstand capital withdrawals is Malaysia, which has amassed a current account surplus and significant foreign exchange reserves thanks to export-driven economic growth. International Monetary Fund and World Bank data show that since 2005, Malaysian current account-to-gross domestic product (GDP) and foreign exchange-to-GDP measures have consistently beaten an average of 21 large emerging market economies on a quarterly basis,&rdquo; notes Koesterich.

	Other examples include South Korea and Taiwan. However, highlighting the turbulent environment faced by emerging markets investors, the iShares MSCI Malaysia ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ewm#NYSE">EWM</a>), iShares MSCI South Korea Capped ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ewy#NYSE">EWY</a>) and the iShares MSCI Taiwan ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ewt#NYSE">EWT</a>) have posted an average three-month loss of 15.6 percent.

	All three of those ETFs hit 52-week lows last Friday and in the case of EWY and EWT, those funds are being hindered by slack performances by technology giants. Samsung is dragging EWY lower while <a href="http://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/long-ideas/15/08/5735542/cashing-in-the-pot-on-chip-etfs">faulty fundamentals in the semiconductor</a> space are plaguing EWT, an ETF that devotes almost 23 percent of its weight to Taiwan Semiconductor (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/tsm#NYSE">TSM</a>).

These Emerging Markets ETFs Could Endure Fed Rate Hikes

Broadly speaking, these are not the best of times for emerging market exchange traded funds. Things are so bad that 22 emerging markets funds hit 52-week lows on Monday. Since the star of the current quarter, the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/eem#NYSE">EEM</a>) has bled nearly $2.5 billion in assets.

	However, there is some light among the darkness and it comes courtesy of Indian small-caps.

	India large-cap ETFs have been significantly better or less bad than other single-country and diversified emerging markets ETFs over the past month, but funds such as the Market Vectors India Small-Cap Index ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/scif#NYSE">SCIF</a>), EGShares India Small Cap Fund (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/scin#NYSE">SCIN</a>) and the iShares MSCI India Small-Cap ETF (BATS: SMIN) <a href="http://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/15/08/5726776/a-look-ahead-consumer-discretionary-and-greek-etfs-to-watch-this-week">have legitimately impressed</a>.

	While the MSCI Emerging Markets Index has tumbled 5.6 percent over the past month, the aforementioned trio of India small-cap ETFs posted an average return of almost 5.5 percent. This is not unfamiliar territory for India ETFs, which were the shining stars of the BRIC quartet last when emerging markets equities slumped.

	In the near term, India ETFs could pullback following the Reserve Bank of India&#39;s decision Tuesday to hold interest rates at 7.25 percent, but the central bank has obliged with three rate cuts earlier this year, at least two of which can be considered surprises.

	Interestingly, the gains for Indian small-caps over the past month arrived as investors pulled $35 million from Indian stocks last month, still a scant percentage of the $7.1. billion that has flowed into stocks in Asia&#39;s third-largest economy this year, according to <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-08-04/indian-stock-futures-fluctuate-before-interest-rate-decision">Bloomberg</a>.

	Divergent Returns</h3>

	Significant differences between the India small-cap ETFs tell the story of divergent returns. For example, the Market Vectors India Small-Cap Index ETF features a 21.2 percent to consumer discretionary stocks, leveraging the ETF to India&#39;s burgeoning consumer story. SMIN, the iShares offering, is also a play on India&#39;s resurgent domestic economy with a 44.3 percent allocation to financial services and industrial names. The EGShares India Small Cap ETF devotes over half its weight to financial stocks and industrials.

	A <a href="http://www.moneycontrol.com/news/market-outlook/midcaps-small-caps-to-outperform-near-term-dsp-blackrock_1934321.html">BlackRock fund manager</a> recently sounded a bullish tone on Indian non-bank financials and select sub-sectors of the industrial space. Though the fund manager did not mention the ETFs highlighted here, institutional support for Indian small-caps should drive the likes of SCIF, SCIN and SMIN higher.

	Indian small-caps are not a bump-free ride. For example, SCIF has a three-year standard deviation of almost 32 percent, or 2 1/2 times that of the MSCI Emerging Markets Index. However, Indian small-cap, at least as measured by SCIF and SCIN, are not excessively valued. SCIF sports a price-to-earnings ratio <a href="http://www.vaneck.com/market-vectors/equity-etfs/scif/Portfolio-Analytics/">of just 11</a>,&nbsp;while SCIN&#39;s price-to-book ratio is just 1.16.

A Pleasant Surprise Among Emerging Market ETFs

Shares of the following <a href="http://www.benzinga.com/etfs">exchange traded funds</a> are trading more than 18 percent higher than 90 days ago, and they are within 10 percent of their 52-week highs.
 This set of ETFs provides a peek at areas of investor interest in the wake of market-shaping news like the harsh winter, historic elections in India, rising Middle East tensions, and the sputtering U.S. economy.
EGShares India Infrastructure (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/inxx#NYSE">INXX</a>) is trading around 45 percent higher year to date, though is it down more than six percent from the recent 52-week high. Infrastructure spending in <a href="http://www.benzinga.com/topic/india">India</a> is projected to be US$1 trillion between 2012 and 2017, and economists expect the economy there to rebound faster than other major emerging markets. 
The non-diversified fund seeks results that correspond generally to the price and yield performance of the INDXX India Infrastructure Index. At least 80 percent of its net assets usually are invested in the Indian infrastructure companies that make up the underlying index. The investment's top holdings include Bombay-traded Bharat Heavy Electricals and Larsen &amp; Toubro.

EGShares India Small Cap (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/scin#NYSE">SCIN</a>) has risen nearly 55 percent since the beginning of the year but pulled back about five percent from a multiyear high earlier this month. Investors were encouraged by the win of Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party in the general election held in mid-May.
This non-diversified fund seeks investment results that generally correspond to the price and yield performance of the INDXX India Small Cap Index. Generally at least 80 percent of its net assets are invested in Indian small market capitalization companies included in the underlying index. Top holdings include Bombay-traded YES Bank, Federal Bank and Cummins India.
iShares MSCI India Small-Cap (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/smin#NYSE">SMIN</a>) is more than 60 percent higher than at the beginning of the year and also reached a multiyear high in early June. Some of the best performing ETFs in 2014 are those focused on companies from India, the world's 10th largest economy.
The non-diversified fund seeks to track the investment results of the MSCI India Small Cap Index, which is designed to measure the performance of equity securities of small-cap companies with a market capitalization that represents the bottom 14 percent of companies in the Indian securities market. Top holdings in this ETF include Bombay-traded Aurobindo Pharma and Bharat Forge.
Market Vectors India Small-Cap ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/scif#NYSE">SCIF</a>) is up around 69 percent year to date though it has pulled back about four percent from a recent multiyear high. The new government has gone on the attack on food costs, and the rate of inflation has slowed, but ETF investors are waiting for more.

The non-diversified investment seeks to replicate as closely as possible the price and yield performance of the Market Vectors India Small-Cap Index. The fund now intends to achieve its investment objective by investing substantially all of its assets in the Subsidiary, a wholly-owned subsidiary located in the Republic of Mauritius. Top holdings include Bombay-traded Apollo Tyres and Ramco Cements.
WisdomTree India Earnings Index (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/epi#NYSE">EPI</a>) is about 34 percent higher since the beginning of the year, but now down about four percent from the recent multiyear high. Since the beginning of the second quarter, this ETF has seen inflows of around $494 million.
The investment seeks to track the price and yield performance of the WisdomTree India Earnings Index, which is comprised of companies incorporated and traded in India that are profitable and that are eligible to be purchased by foreign investors. Top holdings include Bombay-traded Reliance Industries.
iShares MSCI Turkey Investable Market Index (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/tur#NYSE">TUR</a>) is trading more than 38 percent higher than the 52-week low reached in early February, but it has retreated about seven percent from a 52-week high earlier in June. 
This non-diversified investment seeks to track the investment results of the MSCI Turkey Investable Market Index, which is a free float-adjusted market capitalization index designed to measure broad-based equity market performance in Turkey. The fund's inception date was March 26, 2008.

5 India (And 1 Other) ETFs On A Roll

The world’s largest election results are official.

	The opposition party, Bharatiya Janata, was victorious with Narendra Modi becoming the nations next leader. This election is important on many levels, but in the eyes of the world it is encouraging to see democracy reign.

	India is the world’s largest democracy and with 1.2 billion people it has one-sixth of the entire population of the world within its borders.

	As far as the business world is concerned, the new leader has a pro-business agenda and with a large number of talented workers leaving the country, this may shift them back to India.

	The potential is there for the Indian economy and if the stock market is a gauge, investors around the world are excited for the country’s future.

	The major Indian stock indices have been rallying all week and hit a new all-time high on Friday after the announcement.

	Indian ETFs

	The three largest India ETFs by asset size are the WisdomTree India Earnings ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/epi#NYSE">EPI</a>), iShares India 50 ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/indy#NYSE">INDY</a>), and the iShares MSCI India ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/inda#NYSE">INDA</a>). All three are hitting new multi-year highs to end the week with a flurry.

	While all three invest in mainly large-cap Indian stocks, their approach varies as have the returns. Over the last 12 months INDA leads the way with a gain of 19 percent versus a gain of 14 percent for EPI and 11 percent for INDY.

	INDA is a basket of 70 mainly large-cap stocks with a heavy emphasis on financials, IT and energy. INDA is the 50 largest Indian stocks and has a lot less emphasis on the energy sector. EPI uses a fundamental approach to choosing the stocks that go into the portfolio with more emphasis fundamentally sound companies.

	There are also ETFs that invest in the small-cap portion of the Indian stock market. The Market Vectors India Small-Cap ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/scif#NYSE">SCIF</a>) is breaking out to a new yearly high, but is only up nine percent over the last year and is well off its high set in 2010. The iShares MSCI India Small-Cap ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/smin#NYSE">SMIN</a>) was up 16 percent in the last year and is trading at its highest level since its inception in mid-2012.

	Investors must put the situation in perspective and realize that many of the ETFs are up nearly 10 percent in the last 10 days and that there could be some profit taking in the coming days. There is no reason to chase the ETFs at this point considering the initial move is complete. The investor that has a longer-term view should be looking to buy into any pullbacks.

Asia's third-largest economy India was once an emerging markets darling. More recently, the country is home to slowing economic growth, crumbling infrastructure, <a href="http://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/12/06/2658878/india-one-foot-out-the-door-of-the-brics-house-epi-pin-s">a tenuous hold on an investment-grade credit rating</a> and a government that has been accused of doing nothing to address any of those issues.

However, India may still be teeming with profitable opportunities for savvy investors. For example, the country's <a href="http://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/long-ideas/12/07/2792665/these-etfs-could-benefit-from-the-indian-blackout">infrastructure needs</a> could prove to be a valid investment thesis in the coming years. 

It might seem implausible that any ETF <a href="http://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/long-ideas/11/09/1950812/five-india-etfs-your-broker-forgot-to-mention">tracking India could lead an anonymous existence</a>. Yet that is the case with a few of the funds tracking this erstwhile emerging markets star.

Investors might do well to familiarize themselves with the following lesser-known India ETFs:

iShares MSCI India Small Cap Index Fund (BATS: SMIN)
The iShares MSCI India Small Cap Index Fund debuted in February, meaning the fund only caught the tail-end of the early 2012 run higher by India ETFs. In addition, SMIN entered an arena loaded with competition where the the EGShares India Small-Cap ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/scin#NYSE">SCIN</a>) and the Market Vectors India Small-Cap ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/scif#NYSE">SCIF</a>) were established as the top choices for investors looking for exposure to Indian small-caps.

Given that competition, investors may not be surprised that SMIN has struggled to attract assets. Still, it has a lower expense ratio than SCIN and SCIF. Moreover, SMIN has outperformed its two rivals over the past three months.

EGShares India Consumer ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/inco#NYSE">INCO</a>)
A consumer focus did not help the EGShares India Consumer ETF avoid the downdraft that hit the India space earlier this year. Investors may be growing tired of waiting for the emerging markets consumer theme to move from potentially to actually profitable. 

One notable characteristic of INCO <a href="http://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/long-ideas/12/04/2495923/3-etfs-for-akshaya-tritiya-gld-inco-inxx">is its sector allocations</a>. The fund offers some discretionary exposure but is heavy on staples. Personal goods and food stocks combine for 41 percent of the fund's weight. Beverage and tobacco names combine for another 16 percent. 

Risk with INCO is two-fold. The ETF is not heavily traded. Also, given the fund's exposure to food names, INCO would likely be vulnerable should inflation in India spike.

iShares MSCI India Index Fund (BATS: INDA)
As was the case with SMIN, INDA debuted in February and took on plenty of competition in the process. With $18.3 million in assets under management, INDA has been decent at attracting investors. But the fund still has far less assets than the WisdomTree India Earnings ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/epi#NYSE">EPI</a>) and the PowerShares India Portfolio (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/pin#NYSE">PIN</a>). 

An ETF that faces as much established competition as INDA likely must stand out if to attract assets. INDA has done that by outperforming some of its larger rivals and by having a lower expense ratio than EPI and PIN.
