Shares of Sezzle Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SEZL#NASDAQ">SEZL</a>) jumped 42% on Thursday after the company reported better-than-expected first-quarter financial results and raised its FY25 guidance.
On the economic data front, U.S. initial jobless claims declined by 13,000 to 228,000 in the week ending May 3, compared to market estimates of 230,000. U.S. labor productivity in the nonfarm business sector declined by 0.8% during the first quarter compared to estimates of a 0.7% drop.

What Happened: CEO Alan Baratz highlighted the inference of its recent research paper titled Blockchain with Proof of Quantum Work.
The study showed that quantum computation can be used to generate and validate blockchain hashes. Hashes are unique &#8220;digital fingerprints&#8221; of data, which makes it easy to detect tampering.

Top Wall Street Forecasters Revamp Essent Group Expectations Ahead Of Q1 Earnings

MARA Holdings Inc.&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MARA#NASDAQ">MARA</a>) CEO Fred Thiel reiterated the company&#8217;s commitment to its Bitcoin holding strategy on Thursday, emphasizing the potential benefits for its stockholders.
What Happened: During the first quarter earnings call, Thiel said MARA held a &#8220;distinguishing&#8221; position in the market, allowing shareholders to gain from its Bitcoin HODL play as well as pure-play mining activities. 
&#8220;What MARA is doing is a twin turbocharge strategy,&#8221; Thiel said. &#8220;And then when you drive a twin turbo engine, you see the benefit of both the sides.&#8221;
Thiel also noted that the decision to pivot to a &#8220;full HODL&#8221; strategy was based on careful market conditions and macroeconomic factors analysis, which he believed would yield long-term benefits for MARA stockholders.
&#8220;So I think we&#8217;re going to continue to see things move up in Bitcoin longer term, which is why we are still in very much a full HODL position,&#8221; he added.

MARA CEO Fred Thiel Underscores Company's 'Twin Turbocharge Strategy' Of Bitcoin HODL And Mining: 'You See The Benefit Of Both The Sides'

As the electric vehicle manufacturer is finalizing plans to launch operations in the third-largest car market in the world, Prashanth Menon, the Country Head for India for Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>), has reportedly resigned after nine years with the CEO Elon Musk-led company.
What Happened: Menon, who oversaw operations in India as Chairman of Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt. for more than four years, was instrumental in the company&#8217;s establishment of a local office in Pune in 2021 and the purchase of its first retail leases in Mumbai and Delhi earlier this year, according to sources <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-05-08/tesla-tsla-india-head-resigns-just-as-carmaker-plans-launch-in-delhi-mumbai">cited</a> by Bloomberg.
The resignation comes right before Tesla&#8217;s anticipated arrival in India. No immediate successor has been named, and the report states that Tesla&#8217;s operations in India will be temporarily managed by its China teams.
Tesla did not immediately respond to&nbsp;<a href="http://pro.benzinga.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga</a>'s request for comment.

Why It Matters: In order to create more favorable conditions for Tesla&#8217;s entry, India is currently negotiating a trade agreement with the United States that could <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/25/04/44833951/elon-musk-led-teslas-model-y-spotted-testing-in-mumbai-ahead-of-india-debut">reduce auto import tariffs</a>, which were previously as high as 110%. India recently lowered its 110% tariff to 15% on EVs costing more than $35,000.
Tesla has made progress in its plans to grow in India by securing retail space and hiring more locals. The report claims that the company has also begun to reimburse early Model 3 reservations dating back to 2016, seemingly in preparation for the release of newer models.
Amid trade tensions between the United States and China, Tesla is investigating semiconductor supply chains in India in addition to its retail operations. Tesla's India Country Head Resigns As Elon Musk-Led Company Finalizes Launch Plans In World's Third-Largest Auto Market: Report

Suzano (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SUZ#NYSE">SUZ</a>) reported quarterly earnings of $0.87 per share. This is a 2806.67 percent increase over earnings of $0.03 per share from the same period last year. The company reported $1.97 billion in sales this quarter. This is a 3.19 percent increase over sales of $1.91 billion the same period last year.

In a bold move against the United States&#8217; tariff policy, the European Union (EU) is preparing to present its case at the World Trade Organization (WTO). The EU is also proposing countermeasures worth €95 billion ($107.4 billion).
What Happened: The European Commission is planning to challenge the U.S.&#8217;s&nbsp;&#8220;reciprocal&#8221; tariff policy and duties&nbsp;on cars and car parts at the WTO.&nbsp;The Commission has also launched a public consultation on potential countermeasures affecting €95 billion worth of US imports, to be enacted if a trade deal with Washington fails to materialize, <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/08/european-union-dispute-against-us-tariffs-world-trade-organization.html">CNBC</a>&nbsp;reported on Thursday.
