Due to President Donald Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/media/25/04/44657800/trumps-tariffs-stir-global-markets-wall-street-loses-2-trillion-and-more-this-week-in-economics">tariff announcement</a>, markets ripped through numerous support and resistance levels as traders scrambled to reposition and adjust to these new conditions.
Equity markets sank, pushing key indices like the Nasdaq 100 into bear market territory. Currencies performed as expected, with the euro strengthening and the Australian dollar sinking. This commodity-based currency declined against numerous other currencies as the reality of weakening commodity exports materialized. Although the US buys only around 5% of what Australian businesses sell overseas, the complicated US relationship with China translates into a weaker Chinese appetite for Australian commodities, which make up 12% of the country&#8217;s GDP.
The RBA kept interest rates at 4.1%, and a weakening currency doesn&#8217;t leave much room for lowering them anytime soon. Furthermore, the next elections are a month away, and the results will clarify the country&#8217;s foreign policy for the medium term.

This is a long-term counter-trend move in the larger picture, as the price still made a lower low in February. However, this is a trend move in the short term, supported by the contrarian retail positioning, which is nearly 70% short, making it a good candidate for a higher squeeze. Ideally, this setup would play out before BOJ Governor Ueda&#8217;s speech, which could catalyze a <a href="https://singaporeforexclub.com/analysis-japanese-growth-allows-for-boj-hikes">bigger Yen move</a>.

Beam Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BEAM#NASDAQ">BEAM</a>) on Saturday presented additional data from the Phase 1/2 clinical trial of BEAM-302 in patients with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) at the 2025 Alpha-1 Foundation 7th Global Research Conference and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech" rel="noreferrer noopener">10th Patient Congress</a>.
AATD is an inherited genetic disorder that can cause early onset emphysema and liver disease.

Initial safety and efficacy data from the Phase 1/2 trial of BEAM-302 were previously&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.globenewswire.com/Tracker?data=DGjvxT5xtICCkQ8gwO3vYKCxk4cQeGEVsiyMQrfGuDK85hfJvOf0_YRSCN3D4S2uPdzWIKOzfsxza85TGOOOmoIkpgc1qwWR9HDfBTbthTKhQDPwQrYggdlqLEDXs4WjgwVKQ_WJgjueP5aZJLXesgIntByaC3vCddeZGNP6hOg60nlrLmP-9YVZC3BBCaMhoF_Q_HvldXOxFXwKhnaNyTK85Sj9OFVYNjcCdMA9MHs=&amp;tblci=GiCUX7wvU_AgmIIiQduNYr6JQuJQLy6SZJGvpyeZuCzyqiCN1VcoxvTN4f7-y-PqATDviEo" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported</a> in March 2025, establishing clinical proof of concept as a potential treatment for AATD and&nbsp;in vivo base editing.
Preliminary results from the first three single-ascending dose cohorts demonstrated that BEAM-302 was well tolerated.
Single doses of BEAM-302 led to durable dose-dependent correction of the disease-causing mutation and total AAT protein levels above the therapeutic threshold in the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/g44656185/beam-therapeutics-presents-additional-data-for-beam-302-in-alpha-1-antitrypsin-deficiency-aatd-at-" rel="noreferrer noopener">60 mg dose cohort</a>.
These previously reported data were included in the presentation, alongside updated biomarker data from the 60 mg cohort showing levels of corrected protein (M-AAT) and the mutant form of alpha-1 antitrypsin protein (Z-AAT) out to Day 28 for all three patients.
At Day 28, the proportion of corrected M-AAT reached a mean of 91% of total AAT in circulation, surpassing levels observed in patients with the MZ genotype where circulating M-AAT is typically ~80%.
In addition, treatment with BEAM-302 led to a mean decrease of 79% of circulating mutant Z-AAT from baseline as of Day 28.
Beam plans to continue the dose-escalation portion of Part A of the ongoing Phase 1/2 trial, including enrolling and dosing a fourth dose cohort of 75 mg, and expects to report further data at a medical conference in the second half of 2025.
In addition, the company plans to dose the first patient in Part B, including AATD patients with mild to moderate liver disease, in the second half of 2025.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently cleared Beam Therapeutics&#8217; investigational drug application for BEAM-302, enabling the company to activate sites in the U.S. for its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/03/g44523407/beam-therapeutics-announces-clearance-of-investigational-new-drug-application-for-beam-302-for-the" rel="noreferrer noopener">ongoing Phase 1/2 trial</a>.

Beam Therapeutics Presents Biomarker Data For BEAM-302 Gene Therapy For Inherited Disease

Shares of The Kroger Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KR#NYSE">KR</a>) are lower Monday. This comes after they traded at an <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/insights/news/25/04/44607646/1000-invested-in-this-stock-20-years-ago-would-be-worth-this-much-today">all-time high Friday</a>.

Most of the market is in a freefall.  But some of the money coming out of most stocks has been going into some others. Kroger has been one of them.
Many institutional investment managers, such as hedge funds or mutual funds, have mandates regarding how much cash they can hold. If their selling pushes the cash above the mandated level, they must buy other stocks to bring the cash level back down.
But now it looks like Kroger may be about to head lower. The stock staged a classic ‘reversal day' on Friday.

When the leadership of a market is changing from the bulls to the bears, the price action can cause what technical analysts call ‘reversal patterns' to appear on a chart below. A ‘Reversal Day' is one of them.

Sometimes, the change of leadership takes place over an extended period of time. This can make reversal patterns like a ‘Head and Shoulders' or a ‘Rounded Top' form on the chart.
Sometimes, the change can take place in one day. The price action can form a reversal day pattern.
On Friday, it looked like Kroger&#8217;s recent rally would continue. In the morning, it traded at an all-time high of $71.93. But by the close, the bears overpowered the bulls and lowered the price to around $67.
If the bears have taken over and a downtrend forms, there is a good chance it may end around $62.25. This level was support in March.
Many of the traders and investors who sold shares while Kroger was at this support vowed to buy their shares back when the stock moved higher. But they also vowed to do so only if they could buy them for the same price they were sold at.
This means if the stock drops back to around $62.25, they will place buy orders. If there are enough of them, it will create support at the level again.
