Electric vehicle companies, including NIO Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NIO#NYSE">NIO</a>), Li Auto Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LI#NASDAQ">LI</a>), and XPeng Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XPEV#NYSE">XPEV</a>), are also trading upwards Tuesday.
Temu parent PDD Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PDD#NASDAQ">PDD</a>) and Baidu, Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BIDU#NASDAQ">BIDU</a>) also rose on Tuesday after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reportedly said he expects de-escalation with China.
Chinese ports processed 6.3 million containers in the seven days through April 20,&nbsp;up by 10% from the same week last year, Bloomberg <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-04-22/china-trade-immune-so-far-to-tariffs-with-growth-pickup-in-april?srnd=phx-technology&amp;sref=TBDibEcD" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported</a>, citing official data.
Additionally, Washington&#8217;s exemption on electronics from reciprocal tariffs provided some relief for Chinese exporters since the exclusion covers over $100 billion in goods from the country, Bloomberg cited&nbsp;Gerard DiPippo data.
Washington and Beijing have imposed levies over 100% on most of their bilateral commercial flows.
The Port of Los Angeles&nbsp;expects&nbsp;13 ships from Chinese ports to anchor this week, and over 120,000 containers from all origins will be overloaded this week, just below the level in the prior seven days.
Air freight also benefited,&nbsp;as U.S. shoppers stockpiled Temu and Shein products before the U.S. government&nbsp;ended an exemption.
However, it&#8217;s not all good for China, as Bloomberg cited Caixin Global as stating that the volume of cargo carried on the China-Europe train links&nbsp;declined by 10% in the first quarter.
Reportedly, China&#8217;s Xi Jinping could propose a plum deal to Europe as it proposed to tap the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/25/04/44892820/xi-jinping-could-woo-europe-with-a-potential-china-deal-to-undercut-trumps-tariff-strategy-expert-warns" rel="noreferrer noopener">strained US-EU relations</a>.

Estimates: Analysts expect Tesla to report first-quarter revenue of $21.35 billion, up from $21.30 billion in last year&#8217;s first quarter, according to data <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/register?utm_adType=bzprocontent&amp;utm_campaign=14daytrial&amp;utm_ad=0421">from Benzinga Pro.</a>
Analysts expect the company to report first-quarter earnings per share of 41 cents, down from 45 cents in last year&#8217;s first quarter. The company beat earnings per share estimates in the fourth quarter.
Tesla has missed analyst estimates for earnings per share in five of the last six quarters and six of the last 10 quarters overall.
What To Expect: Tesla sales are falling, especially in Europe and CEO Elon Musk&#8217;s focus could be elsewhere, said Jay Woods, Freedom Capital Markets chief global strategist.
&#8220;Tesla remains one of the most volatile and discussed stocks in the world. Elon Musk&#8217;s political bent has made this stock a lightning rod of discussion,&#8221; Woods said in a weekly newsletter.
Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives has argued that Musk should be focusing more time on Tesla and has also questioned how much "brand damage" has been done by the CEO's<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/25/04/44933432/tesla-in-code-red-situation-as-analyst-flags-6-threats-tied-to-musks-government-role"> political involvement</a>.&nbsp;

Plug Power Stock Is Up 11% Tuesday: What's Going On?

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is raising concerns after President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44872241/trump-criticizes-fed-chair-powell-as-too-late-and-wrong-china-cuts-us-oil-imports-by-90-shifts-to-canada-over-tariffs-nvidia-follows-us-rules-on-china-sales-amid-trade-tensions-top-headlines-while-the-us-slept">once again criticized</a> Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and hinted at firing him before the end of his term.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GApxUtKDnEM">CNBC</a> last week, Warren said that while the president cannot legally fire Powell, she wouldn't put anything past Trump. "This is a president who has shown himself willing to violate laws," she said. "If Chairman Powell can be fired by the president of the United States, it will crash the markets."

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Warren Warns of Financial Chaos</h2>
Warren, a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/06/39325582/elizabeth-warren-slams-fed-chair-jerome-powell-on-tackling-violation-of-banks-insider-trading-policy">longtime critic</a> of Powell's decisions on interest rates and regulation, said it's still imperative that the Federal Reserve remain independent. "The infrastructure that keeps this stock market strong…is the idea that the big pieces move independent of the politics," she said. "If the New York Stock Exchange, if interest rates in the United States are subject to a president who just wants to wave his magic wand…then we are no different from a two-bit dictatorship."
Her comments came just hours after Trump on Thursday <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114352766082542122">posted</a> on Truth Social that, "Powell&#8217;s termination cannot come fast enough!" Trump accused Powell of being &#8220;too late and wrong&#8221; on interest rates and blamed him for slowing the economy.
Later that day, Trump doubled down, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r925D_I5GtY">telling reporters</a>, &#8220;I don&#8217;t think he&#8217;s doing the job. He&#8217;s too late, always too late&#8230; If I want him out, he&#8217;ll be out of there real fast, believe me.&#8221;

Warren also accused Trump of using tariffs to reward allies and donors while hurting competitors. "The problem is, nobody can trust the system," Warren said. "There's no independence, no fairness. It's all, whose palm did you grease?"
In a joint <a href="https://fm.cnbc.com/applications/cnbc.com/resources/editorialfiles/2025/04/16/Warren_Lawmakers_Letter_to_Trump_Administration_on_Corruption_and_Tariffs.pdf">letter</a> to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Warren and nearly 50 Senate Democrats criticized the unpredictability and favoritism in Trump's tariff policy. They called for more transparency around companies seeking tariff exemptions.
&#8220;We have not built a strong economy in America based on that kind of pay-to-play,&#8221; she said.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Fed Independence Goes Back Generations</h2>
Warren explained that the Fed's independence has been essential to American financial stability since the Civil War, when the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency was created in 1863 to ensure the integrity of the banking system during wartime.&nbsp;
She pointed out that, ever since, regulators have been kept financially and politically independent to avoid pressure from elected officials or wealthy donors.
&#8220;We need to preserve it not for the politics of the moment, but because overall, that's what keeps the system strong year after year, decade after decade.&#8221;
She warned that letting presidents interfere in monetary policy, especially by threatening job security, undermines that entire framework.&nbsp;
Powell has made it known that he does not believe the president has the authority to remove him. His term as Fed chair ends in May 2026.

What To Know: Netflix stock has been on a tear this week as investors flock to the name as a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/25/04/44909012/how-to-trade-the-one-tariff-proof-tech-stock">safe haven</a> amid tariff uncertainty. Netflix is largely insulated from global tariffs as the company sells streaming subscriptions as opposed to physical goods, and strong earnings from last week appears to have sparked investor confidence. 
Netflix reported first-quarter revenue of $10.54 billion, beating analyst estimates of $10.52 billion. The company reported first-quarter adjusted earnings of $6.61 per share, beating estimates of $5.74 per share, according to&nbsp;<a href="http://pro.benzinga.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro</a>.
Total revenue was up 13% year-over-year, driven by membership growth and higher pricing. The streaming giant said results came in above company expectations due to higher-than-forecasted subscription and advertising revenue.
Netflix guided for 15% revenue growth in the second quarter, highlighting continued strong trends in memberships and advertising revenue. The company also forecasted second-quarter earnings of $7.03 per share versus estimates of $6.27 per share.
"We remain optimistic about our 2025 slate with a lineup that includes returning favorites, series finales, new discoveries and unexpected surprises designed to thrill our members," the company said last week.

Following the print, several analysts <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/25/04/44905838/netflix-playing-offense-while-stock-plays-defense-6-analysts-on-q1-results-advertising-growth-ahead">raised price targets</a> on the streaming stock, ranging from $1,070 to $1,514 per share. 
JPMorgan analysts flagged Netflix as a defensive play for investors, but also noted that the company is &#8220;playing offense.&#8221; The analyst firm believes Netflix will continue to be a key beneficiary of the ongoing disruption of linear TV. 
Several analysts acknowledged Netflix&#8217;s limited exposure to tariffs, suggesting minimal impacts from macroeconomic uncertainty. Many firms also pointed to strong subscriber growth trends and the ability for the company to raise prices and drive stronger revenue growth through its ad-tier plan. 
&#8220;Mgmt confirmed they are not seeing a slowdown or pullback in ad spend given recent macro uncertainty,&#8221; Macquarie analyst Ross Compton said. 
<a href="http://benzinga.com/quote/nflx">Netflix shares</a> reached all-time highs of $1,064.50 in February. The stock is up about 8% over the past few trading sessions and is now within striking distance of the February highs. 
Netflix shares were up 4.8% at $1,035.26 at the time of publication Tuesday, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>.

Netflix Stock Nears All-Time High: What's Going On?

Roche Holdings AG (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RHHBY#OTC">RHHBY</a>) announced on Tuesday that it will invest $50 billion in the U.S. over <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/pharmaceuticals">the next five years.</a>
These investments further strengthen Roche's already significant U.S. footprint, which includes 13 manufacturing and 15 R&amp;D sites across the Pharmaceutical and Diagnostics Divisions.
The investment is expected to <a href="https://www.roche.com/media/releases/med-cor-2025-04-22" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">create</a> over 12,000 new jobs, including nearly 6,500 construction jobs and 1,000 jobs at new and expanded facilities.

As part of this investment, Roche will increase its footprint of more than 25,000 employees in 24 sites across eight U.S. states. The investment will include:

<li>Expanded and upgraded US manufacturing and distribution capabilities for its innovative medicines and diagnostics portfolio in Kentucky, Indiana, New Jersey, Oregon, and California.</li>
<li>Gene therapy manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania.</li>
<li>A new 900,000-square-foot manufacturing center to support Roche's expanding portfolio of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/25/04/44791986/whats-going-on-with-viking-therapeutics-structure-therapeutics-stock-on-monday" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">next-generation weight loss medicines</a>. The company says the location will be announced.</li>
<li>A new manufacturing facility for continuous glucose monitoring in Indiana.</li>
<li>A new R&amp;D center in Massachusetts for conducting artificial intelligence research and as a hub for new cardiovascular, renal, and metabolism R&amp;D efforts.</li>
<li>Significant expansion and upgrading of existing pharmaceuticals and diagnostics R&amp;D centers in Arizona, Indiana, and California.</li>
</ul>
Once all new and expanded manufacturing capacity comes online, Roche will export more medicines from the U.S. than it imports. The company says its diagnostics division already has an export surplus from the U.S. to other countries.
Earlier this month, Novartis AG (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVS#NYSE">NVS</a>) unveiled a sweeping $23 billion investment plan to expand its manufacturing and research infrastructure in the U.S. <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/25/04/44761201/novartis-commits-23-billion-to-expand-us-manufacturing-over-five-years-despite-tariffs-uncertainties" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">over the next five years</a>.
The move is part of a broader strategy to ensure that all key Novartis medicines for U.S. patients are produced domestically.

Roche Plans $50 Billion US Investment Over 5 Years With 12,000 New Jobs

On Tuesday, Sapiens International Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPNS#NASDAQ">SPNS</a>) disclosed its plan to acquire Candela for an aggregate <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/n44915217/sapiens-acquires-candela-to-expand-its-footprint-in-apac-and-enhance-its-life-product-portfolio" rel="noreferrer noopener">cash consideration of&nbsp;$22 million</a>.
Candela offers an end-to-end insurance automation platform along with digital services and solutions in the APAC region.
The acquisition is intended to strengthen Sapiens' life insurance offerings and broaden its footprint across Asia-Pacific.
The deal is anticipated to close in the second quarter of 2025, pending regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
Candela's offerings complement Sapiens' Insurance Platform and Life Policy Administration Systems.
By integrating Candela's strengths in Business Process Modelling (BPM) and Case Management, Sapiens plans to enhance its life insurance solutions.
The acquisition will also allow for the integration of standardized workflows across third-party legacy systems, delivering a more streamlined and consistent experience for agents, customers, and administrators.
Roni Al-Dor, CEO and President at Sapiens, said, "We will continue to support Candela's customers and products, increasing value across the entire insurance lifecycle and supporting insurers' digital transformations with a comprehensive product proposition and a diverse range of service capabilities."
Amitabh Poddar, Business Head at Candela, added, "Integrating our intelligent automation solutions into Sapiens' leading insurance software platform will enhance our capabilities and provide even greater value to our customers."
Notably, Candela reported non-GAAP revenues of $8 million for the full year 2024. The transaction is expected to be accretive to Sapiens' profitability <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">beginning in the fourth quarter of 2025</a>.
The deal is expected in the second quarter of 2025 and Candela will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Sapiens.
The company disclosed the first quarter of<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener"> 2025 results on May 8, 2025</a>.
As of December 31, cash and cash <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/n43775499/sapiens-reports-fourth-quarter-2024-financial-results" rel="noreferrer noopener">equivalent stood at $163.7 million</a>.

Sapiens Taps APAC Growth With $22 Million Candela Acquisition

Cantor Fitzgerald initiated coverage on Eli Lilly And Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LLY#NYSE">LLY</a>) on Monday, citing orforglipron data, which strengthens <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/weight-loss" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the case for obesity dominance</a>.
Last week, the U.S. drug giant reported topline Phase 3 results from the ACHIEVE-1 trial of orforglipron compared to placebo in adults with type 2 diabetes and inadequate glycemic control with <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44860903/eli-lillys-oral-glp-1-drug-orforglipron-hits-phase-3-goals-in-diabetes-trial-stock-shoots-higher" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">diet and exercise alone</a>.
In the first Phase 3 trial of the ACHIEVE program, orforglipron met the primary endpoint of superior A1C (blood sugar) reduction compared to placebo at 40 weeks, lowering A1C by an average of 1.3% to 1.6% from a baseline of 8.0%,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/25/04/44871681/lillys-diabetes-pill-clears-major-trial-analyst-points-to-global-potential" rel="noreferrer noopener">using the efficacy estimand</a>.
After a choppy second half of 2024, &#8220;Lilly is off to a solid start in &#8217;25,&#8221; Cantor analyst Carter Gould writes. The company reported positive orforglipron ACHIEVE-1 data and improved underlying GLP-1 commercial metrics.

Cantor writes that Eli Lilly could have an over 85% share of the obesity market by 2029-2030E when the next wave of entrants hits. Cantor initiated with an Overweight rating and a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/LLY/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">price target of $975</a>.
Eli Lilly&#8217;s first-quarter earnings are in the front row for investors.
The company is scheduled to release the financial performance on 1 May. Analysts expect $4.79 per share earnings with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">sales of $12.93 billion</a>.
Cantor expects modest beats across Mounjaro/Zepbound and that the company will likely reaffirm the FY25 topline guide ($59-61 billion) as a raise is more likely after the second quarter of 2025.
In March, the company announced the launch of its popular weight loss drug Mounjaro (tirzepatide) in India, which is expected to have the second-largest population of overweight or&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44824190/eli-lillys-mounjaro-launch-triggers-weight-loss-craze-in-india-novo-nordisk-seeks-to-move-up-wegovy-launch" rel="noreferrer noopener">obese people by 2050</a>.
Rival&nbsp;Novo Nordisk A/S&#8217;&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVO#NYSE">NVO</a>) is feeling the pressure as it tries to move up the launch of Wegovy in India to better compete with Lilly.
BofA Securities has also made minor changes to its model for Eli Lilly ahead of Q1 earnings.
BofA analyst Tim Anderson writes that IQVIA recently began including Lilly Direct vials in its TRx (total prescription) data. As for pricing, Eli Lilly expects an overall price decline by the mid-to-high single digits in 2025. While this isn&#8217;t specific to any product, the company suggests that falling prices for its obesity drugs will likely be a major factor.
For 2025/2026, revenues are changed by +1%/+0.4%, and EPS estimates change by +1.9%/-0.7%. No substantial changes to Mounjaro/Zepbound forecasts.
BofA reiterates the Buy rating with a price target of $1,000. &#8220;We continue to like LLY, not &#8220;expensive&#8221; on a PE-to-growth basis, by our math.&#8221;
