Poponak believes Boeing could likely redirect these jets to other carriers in Asia, particularly to fast-growing markets like India, which continue to show strong demand for narrowbody aircraft.
The analyst says Boeing previously indicated that it can sustain a multi-year delivery schedule without Chinese orders, thanks to substantial growth and replacement needs from other regions.

<a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ubs-flags-risks-aerospace-stocks-193015871.html">UBS analysts</a> believe that defense contractors and even IT solutions providers with government exposure will see their earnings come under pressure in the near term. However, it goes on to add that any downside in defense stocks will be limited, highlighting that consensus estimates have moved higher since the elections.
This is partly owing to the low valuations in this space, relative to the rest of the market, and partly to the emergence of other nations as major buyers of defense products beyond just the United States.
What It Means: With growing threats from Russia alongside waning support from the US, NATO is making a renewed push to bolster its defense capabilities. Investments in defense across Europe could go from $340 billion to $720 billion, with plenty of opportunities coming the way of US-based contractors.
Besides this, tensions in the Middle East have led to a strong demand for weapon systems and ammunition, all of which stand to make up for any losses arising from DOGE-related budget cuts.

Boeing Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>) shares are trading higher on Thursday following the announcement of a<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/movers" rel="noreferrer noopener"> significant contract award.</a>
The U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command (USASOAC) <a target="_blank" href="https://boeing.mediaroom.com/news-releases-statements?item=131537" rel="noreferrer noopener">awarded </a>Boeing a $240 million contract on Thursday to remanufacture five MH-47G Block II Chinook helicopters.
Deliveries for the aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2027. This contract underscores Boeing&#8217;s continued support for U.S. military operations, particularly for special operations forces with unique mission requirements.
Heather McBryan, vice president of Cargo Programs at Boeing Defense, emphasized the importance of providing the enhanced capabilities of the MH-47G Block II to meet these needs.
This contract follows USASOAC&#8217;s 2024 acquisition of four MH-47G Block II helicopters, bringing the Army&#8217;s total to 51 under contract. Boeing expects to complete the entire USASOAC Chinook fleet by early 2030.
The MH-47G Block II aircraft is designed for long-term use with its reinforced airframe, advanced avionics, and fuel tanks, positioning it for future upgrades.

What's Going On With Boeing Stock On Thursday?

GE Aerospace (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GE#NYSE">GE</a>) on Wednesday disclosed that Korean Air has selected GEnx and GE9X engines to power its newly ordered fleet of 20 <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/03/n44499830/korean-air-selects-ge-aerospace-engines-to-power-new-787-10s-and-777-9s" rel="noreferrer noopener">Boeing </a><a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/03/n44499830/korean-air-selects-ge-aerospace-engines-to-power-new-787-10s-and-777-9s" rel="noreferrer noopener">777-9s and up to 30 787-10s</a>.
The order also includes a service agreement for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of the GE9X engines.
This makes Korean Air the first airline in South Korea to operate GE9X-powered aircraft.
The GE9X engine stands as the most powerful commercial aircraft engine and the most fuel-efficient in its category.
Exclusively designed for the Boeing 777X family, including the 777-9 and 777-8, it delivers a 10% improvement in specific fuel consumption over the GE90-115B while achieving next-generation emissions performance.
Notably, like all GE Aerospace commercial engines, both the GEnx and GE9X are already certified to operate with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blends.

GE Aerospace Lands Major Korean Air Deal: GEnx And GE9X Engines To Power New Boeing Fleet

GE Aerospace (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GE#NYSE">GE</a>) shares are trading higher today. On Monday, the company announced the official opening of XEOS, a cutting-edge engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/03/n44455045/xeos-inaugurates-cfm-leap-maintenance-in-poland" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Środa Śląska, near Wrocław</a>.
XEOS is a 35,000 square meter facility equipped with a range of advanced features, including a main hall for engine and module assembly and disassembly, an engine training center, and a state-of-the-art test cell.
The facility utilizes GE Aerospace&#8217;s proprietary lean operating system, FLIGHT DECK, incorporating the latest best practices in design and operations.
This facility, a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Lufthansa Technik, specializes in the overhaul and repair of CFM International LEAP engines.
Notably, LEAP engines power popular narrowbody aircraft like the Airbus A320neo family (LEAP-1A) and Boeing 737 MAX (LEAP-1B).
XEOS is currently conducting LEAP-1B engine maintenance while also assisting with LEAP-1A module work and engine testing.
In the near future, the facility plans to introduce LEAP-1B test cell capabilities and expand both its overhaul and repair capacities.
In January 2025, Lufthansa Technik and LOT Polish Airlines revealed their MRO agreement for CFM LEAP-1B engines.
The Polish national carrier currently operates 18 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and has an additional 13 on order, totaling 62 CFM LEAP-1B engines, including spares.
Alan Kelly, general manager of LEAP services at GE Aerospace, said, &#8220;Celebrating 30 years in&nbsp;Poland, GE Aerospace now has over 2,000 employees across six facilities, partnerships with eight local universities, and more than 1,000 local suppliers. Goldman Sachs analyst Noah Poponak has a price forecast of $213 and a Buy rating for Boeing Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>) amid Wednesday&#8217;s announcement of<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/BA/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener"> monthly deliveries update</a>.

Raytheon ELCAN Secures Key Contract To Supply Dual-Role Sights To Danish Armed Forces

Boeing Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>) stock <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/movers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">traded lower on Thursday.</a> The company&#8217;s CEO, Kelly Ortberg, reportedly said that SpaceX&#8217;s Elon Musk is helping to solve issues within the delivery process of Boeing&#8217;s Air Force One presidential jet, Reuters reports.
At the Barclays Industrial Select Conference, Ortberg stated that they aim to reach 38 &#8216;737 jets&#8217; per month for 2-3 months before requesting a rate increase from the FAA, the report adds.
Last month, CNBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/01/28/elon-musk-boeing-air-force-one-replacements.html#:~:text=Boeing%20is%20working%20with%20Trump,CEO%20Kelly%20Ortberg%20said%20Tuesday." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported</a> that Boeing is collaborating with Musk to speed up the delivery of delayed and overbudget Air Force One replacements, citing a statement from Ortberg in an interview.
The two Boeing 747s meant to replace Air Force One are more than $2 billion over budget and years behind schedule due to design changes, labor issues, and supply chain problems.

Trump negotiated the deal for the aircraft during his first term, after threatening to cancel the order in 2017 due to high costs, CNBC noted.
Ortberg mentioned in the CNBC interview that they are working with Musk to reduce costs and deliver the planes sooner.
Today, Ortberg noted that the 737 supply chain is in good shape, but acknowledged Boeing is evaluating the impact of a fire this week at a Pennsylvania factory, which is a key supplier of aircraft fasteners, Reuters reported.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need to streamline operations and optimize spending, as reported by CBS News.
This initiative has raised concerns for major defense contractors, many of whom rely heavily on government contracts. Among the top players at risk are Lockheed Martin which has retreated almost 10% so far this year, RTX , General Dynamics, with a loss of 6.35% year-to-date, and Northrop Grumman, which has lost 6.5% so far this year.
With over $200 billion in annual federal contracts flowing into the sector, any cuts could significantly affect companies that derive nearly half their revenue from government spending, according to a report by Saxo Bank.
While U.S. defense spending may come under pressure, rising geopolitical tensions and commitments from NATO allies to boost their military budgets could create new opportunities for defense firms.

For investors holding defense-heavy ETFs, now may be a time for caution but not necessarily panic. Expert Ideas: Experts are predicting increased defense spending after French President Emmanuel Macron invited European leaders to a security summit on Monday, ahead of Tuesday's talks between Russia and the U.S.&nbsp;
"The emergency defense summit in Paris on Monday on the eve of negotiations over the war in Ukraine strongly implies that a large increase in defense spending among European Union nations is coming,"&nbsp; said Joseph Brusuelas, chief economist at RSM.&nbsp;
Bloomberg reported that defense spending could increase by as much as $3.1 trillion over the next ten years, Brusuelas noted. Stocks in the defense sector are reacting positively to the latest geopolitical developments.
