Fortescue is an Australia-based iron ore miner. It has grown from obscurity start of 2008 to become the world's fourth-largest producer. Growth was fueled by debt, now repaid. Expansion from 55 million metric tons in fiscal 2012 to about 190 million metric tons in 2024 means Fortescue supplies around 10% of global seaborne iron ore. Further expansion above 200 million metric tons is likely once its 22 million metric ton Iron Bridge magnetite mine ramps up, likely in 2026 or 2027. However, with longer-term demand likely to decline as China's economy matures, Fortescue's future margins are likely to be below historical averages. More recently, Fortescue diversified into green energy, with ambitions to become a major supplier of green hydrogen and green ammonia. Its efforts are early stage.

The clean industrial transition is on a positive trajectory, but still requires considerable funding to reach its full potential – the latest report by the Mission Possible Partnership (MPP) shows. While facing headwinds like geopolitical risks and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/commodities">commodity volatility</a>, eight projects reached Final Investment Decision (FID) over the last six months. The total number of operational or fully committed clean industrial facilities worldwide now stands at 134.
"Despite the geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainties, momentum continues to build," MPP CEO Faustine Delasalle wrote in the <a href="https://www.missionpossiblepartnership.org/tracker-insights/jun-25/">report's foreword.</a> "This is in no small part because many companies and governments understand clean industry is an economic opportunity, not just a climate imperative."
MPP's latest Global Project Tracker identifies a total of 826 industrial decarbonization projects worldwide. Of these, 692 have been announced, 65 have secured financing and passed FID, and 69 are already operational.
The report notes that the most significant progress has occurred in the chemicals and fuels sectors, particularly in hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol, while hard-to-abate materials sectors, such as steel and cement, remain more challenging due to price competitiveness and technological maturity.
The report notes the growing importance of the so-called "New Industrial Sunbelt." The term refers to a group of emerging economies like Brazil, India, Oman, Egypt, South Africa, but also Australia, all strategically positioned to lead the industry due to high renewable energy potential, abundant land availability, and improving policies.
These countries now account for nearly one-third of all announced clean industrial projects and about 25% of those that have reached FID. Their role is seen as essential to the future of globally distributed, low-emission industrial production.
Still, MPP is clear about challenges ahead, highlighting three persistent barriers: heightened trade tensions and global macroeconomic uncertainty, unclear or shifting government policy frameworks, especially concerning tax credits and carbon border mechanisms, and a glut of capacity in conventional commodities like grey steel and basic chemicals, which continues to suppress market prices and delay green investment.
As many as 700 projects remain in pre-FID status, representing an estimated $1.6 trillion in capital investment opportunity. Among these are several high-profile initiatives now facing delays or reevaluation. These include Fortescue's (OTCQX:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FSUGY#OTCQX">FSUGY</a>)&nbsp; Gibson Island green hydrogen plant in Australia and ArcelorMittal's (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MT#NYSE">MT</a>) flagship green steel project in Europe.
Yet, MPP remains optimistic, identifying three critical drivers of enabling successful project advancement. These include declining costs of renewable energy and clean industrial technologies, stronger demand-side measures such as procurement mandates and offtake agreements, and coordinated supply-side policies to de-risk capital investment.

$1.6 Trillion Needed to Unlock Clean Industrial Future

Reflecting the expected conditions of a bear market, many of the world&rsquo;s indices saw a decrease in price throughout June.
The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA: SPY), for example, declined 8.26% in June, a very similar decline to the one seen in April. The SPY&rsquo;s maximum decline since its peak in January is 24%, falling within the standard definition of a bear market.&nbsp;
The Fidelity NASDAQ Composite Index ETF (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/oneq#NASDAQ">ONEQ</a>) and the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (NYSEARCA: DIA) displayed similar weakness, showing declines of 8.7% and 6.78%, respectively, in June.
Despite the decline in market indices and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), OTC Markets Group Inc.&rsquo;s (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/otcm#OTCQX">OTCM</a>) regulated markets experienced a slight increase in total monthly dollar volume, recording $45.2 billion in June compared to $44.5 billion in May. Additionally, the operator saw former cryptocurrency and mortgage financiers return to the helm of the Most Actively Traded Securities list on two of its regulated markets.&nbsp;
Both the OTCQX Best Market and the OTCQB Venture Market maintained a significant international presence, with over half of the top most-traded securities across both markets composed of international operators.
<h3>Crypto Reclaims The Helm Of The OTCQX Best Market Most-Active Securities&nbsp;</h3>
The OTCQX Best Market recorded $9 billion in trading volume in June, a decrease from May&rsquo;s $11 billion.&nbsp;
Despite the decrease in volume, former leaders have begun to reclaim their place among the Most Active Securities list. Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/gbtc#OTCQX">GBTC</a>), for example, has reclaimed its spot as the most-traded security on the OTCQX Best Market, followed by May&rsquo;s leader Roche Holding AG (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/rhhby#OTCQX">RHHBY</a>) and Grayscale Ethereum Trust (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ethe#OTCQX">ETHE</a>).&nbsp;
Additionally, the OTCQX&rsquo;s top 10 most-active securities experienced a slight reshuffle in June, welcoming&nbsp;
Experian PLC (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/expgy#OTCQX">EXPGY</a>) and Tesco PLC (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/tscdy#OTCQX">TSCDY</a>) in place of AXA SA (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/axahy#OTCQX">AXAHY</a>) and Sprott Physical Uranium Trust Fund (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/sruuf#OTCQX">SRUUF</a>).
International operators, once again, maintained a strong presence on OTCQX, comprising 23 of the top 30 securities, down from 24 in May. France&rsquo;s BNP Paribas SA (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/bnpqy#OTCQX">BNPQY</a>) and Germany&rsquo;s Infineon Technologies AG (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ifnny#OTCQX">IFNNY</a>) and adidas AG (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/addyy#OTCQX">ADDYY</a>) were again on the OTCQX top 10 most-active securities, while Mexico&rsquo;s Wal-Mart De Mexico S.A.B. de C.V. (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/wmmvy#OTCQX">WMMVY</a>) and Australia&rsquo;s Fortescue Metals Group Ltd. (OTCQX: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/fsugy#OTCQX">FSUGY</a>) made it among June&rsquo;s top 30 most-active securities.

<h3>The OTCQB Venture Market Welcomes Back Mortgage Financiers</h3>
The OTCQB Venture Market recorded $603 million in trading volume in June, a decline from May&rsquo;s $896 million figure.
June introduced two new entities to the OTCQB&rsquo;s Top 10 Most-Traded Securities list. Biotech operator CytoDyn Inc. (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/cydy#OTCQB">CYDY</a>) and aerospace and defense company Applied Energetics Inc. (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/aerg#OTCQB">AERG</a>) represent the new faces on the list.
Similar to May, the OTCQB Venture Market witnessed a number of novelties in June. In addition to two new companies, all three of the top most-traded securities in the market changed. Mortgage financiers Fannie Mae (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/fnma#OTCQB">FNMA</a>) and Freddie Mac (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/fmcc#OTCQB">FMCC</a>) reclaimed their positions as the first- and third-most traded securities and Lake Resources (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/llkkf#OTCQB">LLKKF</a>) claimed its spot as the second most-traded security.
All three former &ldquo;Most Active Top 3s&rdquo; &ndash; Northwest Biotherapeutics Inc. (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/nwbo#OTCQB">NWBO</a>), Sysorex Inc. (OTCQB: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/sysx#OTCQB">SYSX</a>) and Netlist Inc. Mortgage Financiers & Crypto Securities Reclaim Their Spots As Most Actively Traded Securities On OTC Markets In June

Plug Power, Inc., a&nbsp;3Hydrogen fuel-cell energy company, has been making strides with its execution on all fronts.
The Plug Power Analyst: KeyBanc Capital Markets analyst Leo Mariani initiated coverage of Plug Power shares with an Overweight rating and $40 price target, suggesting more than&nbsp;40% upside from current levels.
The Plug Power Thesis: <a href=" https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/21/01/19143708/why-plug-powers-lead-in-fuel-cell-hydrogen-space-could-create-outsized-winner"> Plug Power</a>&nbsp;has a leading industry position as it has one of the largest scale businesses compared to its public peers, analyst Mariani said in a note.
The company is a dominant player in the material handling business with nearly 90% market share, the analyst said, citing data from the Fuel Cell &amp; Hydrogen Energy Association. Plug Power&#39;s key customers for its material handling business include Amazon, Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/amzn#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), General Motors Company&nbsp;(NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/gm#NYSE">GM</a>), Walmart&nbsp;Inc&nbsp;(NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/wmt#NYSE">WMT</a>) and Home Depot&nbsp;Inc&nbsp;(NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/hd#NYSE">HD</a>), he added.

Additionally, the company has&nbsp;<a href=" https://www.benzinga.com/news/21/01/19127108/plug-power-rallies-on-jv-partnership-with-renault-for-hydrogen-powered-vehicles-in-europe">strategic partnerships</a>&nbsp;with major industry players such as SK Group in South Korea, Renault ADR&nbsp;(OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/rnlsy#OTC">RNLSY</a>) in France, Acciona&nbsp;SA&nbsp;(OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/acxif#OTC">ACXIF</a>) in Spain&nbsp;and Fortescue Metals Group ADR&nbsp;(OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/fsugy#OTC">FSUGY</a>) in Australia that helps it gain a toehold into key growth markets, the analyst noted.
The company, the analyst said, is aiming for growing revenues at a 53% CAGR through 2024 and hopes to become profitable by then as well, and sees potential for $3B in revenue by 2025.
&quot;Recent execution at PLUG has been solid a bit as the Company beat consensus revenue expectations in three of the last four quarters,&quot; the analyst said in the note.
Plug Power also has a strong liquidity position with around $3.5 billion in cash on its balance sheet as of Sept. 30, 2021, with much of it coming from a number of large equity financing deals over the last few years, the analyst noted.
The company may have to burn cash for at least the next several years to hit its aggressive growth goals and may need to eventually raise equity for its expansion plans, he added.
PLUG&nbsp;Price Action: Plug Power shares were down 5.97% at $26.47 Wednesday afternoon at publication.
