Truist Securities Maintains Buy on Smurfit WestRock, Lowers Price Target to $50

Halliburton Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HAL#NYSE">HAL</a>) shares are trading lower after the company reported <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/b44918007/halliburton-announces-first-quarter-2025-results" rel="noreferrer noopener">first-quarter 2025 results</a>. The decline follows CEO Jeff Miller&#8217;s commentary during the earnings call, during which he noted that international revenue is expected to be flat or slightly lower year-over-year.
Additionally, he projected a second-quarter earnings impact of $0.02 to $0.03 per share due to ongoing trade challenges.
The company reported a revenue decline of 6.7% year-over-year to $5.417 billion, beating the consensus of $5.283 billion. Adjusted EPS came in at $0.60, down from $0.76 a year earlier and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">in line with analyst expectations</a>, according to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/04/44922403/watching-halliburton-shares-falling-during-conf-call-ceo-reportedly-says-yoy-international-revenue-t" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro</a>.
Operating income stood at $431 million (-56.3% YoY), with an operating margin of about 7.9%, down 905 bps YoY.
Completion and Production revenue fell 7.5% YoY to $3.12 billion, with $531 million operating income. The decline was driven by weaker pressure pumping and tool sales in the Western Hemisphere, partially offset by gains in the Middle East.
Drilling and Evaluation revenue declined 6% YoY to $2.3 billion, with operating income down 12% YoY to $352 million. Lower drilling and project activity in Mexico and the Middle East drove the drop, partly offset by stronger fluid services in the region.
HAL&#8217;s North American revenue fell 12% to $2.2 billion in Q1 2025, driven by lower U.S. stimulation and Gulf tool sales, partly offset by stronger artificial lift and drilling activity.
International revenue slid 2% sequentially to $3.2 billion. Latin America dropped 19% YoY to $896 million, driven by lower activity in Mexico and weaker tool sales, partly offset by stronger drilling services in Argentina, Brazil, and the Caribbean.
Europe/Africa revenue increased 6% year-over-year to $775 million, supported by stronger activity in Norway, Namibia, and the Caspian region, partially offset by lower activity in Senegal and Italy.
Middle East/Asia revenue also rose 6% to $1.5 billion, driven by increased operations in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, with some offset from reduced activity in Australia, Malaysia, and Oman.
During the quarter, Halliburton repurchased $250 million in stock, paid a $0.17 dividend, spent $30 million on SAP, and recorded $356 million in pre-tax charges.
Operating cash flow for the quarter was $377 million, and free cash flow was $124 million. Cash and cash equivalents totaled $1.804 billion as of March 31, 2025.
Halliburton CEO Jeff Miller highlighted strong international tender activity and key offshore wins extending into 2026: &#8220;Customers awarded Halliburton several contracts that demonstrate the strength of our value proposition and the power of our service quality execution.&#8221;
Price Action: HAL shares traded lower by 4.77% at $20.88 at the last check on Tuesday.

As per Metro Starter Plus, a consumer can bring their existing number, get a new phone and have unlimited talk, text and 5G data for just $40. New customers can also get two lines with unlimited 5G and two Samsung Galaxy A15 5G phones for $65 per month.
Under the Metro Flex Unlimited plan, a family of four can pay $30 per line with AutoPay ($125 total for the first month) and unlimited talk, text and 5G data. The Flex plans include annual device upgrades with the same deals new customers get when they trade in their phones after 12 months.
Per Metro Flex Unlimited Plus, customers can avail of over $250 in added value and&nbsp;$10 a month less than Metro Flex Plus. Customers can enjoy&nbsp;Amazon Prime&nbsp;at no extra cost. Customers can bring a smartwatch or tablet to Metro and connect them for just $5 a month each, plus, they also get HD video streaming.
New and existing customers can add a 2GB line to any plan for just $15 at $5 a month starting in month two.
Rival Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VZ#NYSE">VZ</a>) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/price-target/25/04/44928719/verizons-subscriber-losses-raise-concerns-but-strong-business-revenue-guidance-keeps-analyst-optimistic">reported&nbsp;fiscal&nbsp;first-quarter&nbsp;results&nbsp;on Tuesday</a>.&nbsp;Its revenue growth was 1.5%, reaching $33.49 billion, topping the&nbsp;analyst consensus estimate of $33.24 billion. Adjusted EPS of $1.19 topped the&nbsp;analyst&nbsp;consensus estimate of $1.15.
Postpaid phone net losses were 289,000 versus 114,000 net losses Y/Y driven by price hikes, intense rival promotional offers, and lesser government support. Verizon attributed some of the loss to lower spending by some federal agencies.
Verizon&nbsp;reiterated a 2%–2.8%&nbsp;growth in wireless service&nbsp;revenue. It reaffirmed an adjusted EPS of $4.59 – $4.73 versus&nbsp;consensus of $4.67.
Verizon reiterated $17.5 billion to $18.5 billion in 2025 free cash flow, $35 billion to $37 billion in operating cash flow and $17.5 billion to $18.5 billion in capital expenditure. Verizon&#8217;s guidance does not include any tariff impact.
Verizon recently&nbsp;promised&nbsp;a&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/media/25/04/44644607/verizons-new-3-year-price-lock-free-phone-offer-strategic-move-to-boost-customer-retention" rel="noreferrer noopener">three-year price</a> guarantee and a free phone trade-in for mobile phones and home internet plans to gain market share.
According to Bloomberg analysts, Verizon and its rivals remain shielded from President Donald Trump&#8217;s tariff policies because of their U.S. focus.
TMUS Price Action: T-Mobile US stock traded higher by 1.71% to $257.89 at publication on Tuesday.

Gold has been the crown jewel of 2025 so far, soaring more than 30% year to date and notching a fresh <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/gold">all-time high above $3,500</a>. 
But while bullion's safe-haven shine has dazzled amid economic and political chaos, one expert warns the rally may be running too hot.
"Gold surged to a fresh all-time high above $3500 before giving back some gains," said Lukman Otunuga, senior market analyst at FXTM. "While the fundamentals heavily favour bulls, technical indicators are showing that gold is heavily overbought and could be ripe for a correction."

From concerns over the Fed's independence — thanks to President Donald Trump's ongoing threats to fire Fed Chair Jerome Powell — to looming tariff shocks and recession fears, gold has become the escape hatch for jittery investors. Even a hawkish Fed and strong dollar haven't dented the momentum.
But overbought technicals may now be flashing yellow. "Depending on the intensity of the correction, prices may slip toward $3350, $3200, and $3140 before bulls jump back into the game. Conversely, a solid breakout and daily close above $3500 for Gold may pave a path to the next psychological level at $3600."
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">GLD Tracks Gold's Moves And May Feel The Whiplash</h2>

For equity investors, the SPDR Gold Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLD#NYSE">GLD</a>) is one of the most widely used proxies for gold. And it&#8217;s closely tracking the metal's moves — GLD is up sharply year-to-date, riding the gold wave higher. But if bullion takes a breather, miners could take a sharper hit due to operating leverage.
Its Relative Strength Index (RSI), also overbought at 77.70 — suggesting a correction may be up next.
As gold teeters near a potential pullback, investors using GLD as a gold play may want to tread lightly. A cooling in gold prices &#8211; even if temporary &#8211; could send gold mining stocks lower soon, even if the longer-term thesis for safe-haven demand remains intact.

Gold Is Up 30% Year To Date But 'Could Be Ripe For A Correction': Analyst

"The Ramsey Show" features a question of the day that leads to interesting conversations. Dave Ramsey, host of the show and author of several bestselling financial books, agreed with one of his listener's claims about the economy.
In the question of the day, a listener rejected the notion that you can only become wealthy if you take away wealth from someone else. Instead, the listener believes that <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQcHv6pX-Uk">economic growth through innovation allows everyone to benefit</a>. Ramsey applauded the listener's conclusion and doubled down on the absurdity of a zero-sum economy.
"The pie theory is someone that is ignorant of basic economics," Ramsey stated.

He went on to share several examples of why that's the case. Ramsey also dove into the mentality of people who believe that the little guy can't get ahead because the big guy keeps taking all of the wealth.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Economy Is Constantly Growing In Size</h2>
Ramsey points out that the economy has grown a lot since 1776. If the economy only grew by people taking slices of pie from each other, we'd still be stuck with 1776 technology and solutions to key problems.&nbsp;
However, the economy has grown rapidly due to innovation, the Industrial Age, and other factors. The growth has resulted in a larger pie that has benefited everyone instead of wealthy people taking all of the slices of the pie from others.&nbsp;
Ramsey compares the economy to a candle instead of a pie. When you add light to a candle, it becomes brighter. You don't subtract anything from the economy or take resources away from someone else. You're just adding to it.&nbsp;

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">When The Pie Theory Applies</h2>
While the economy doesn't operate under the pie theory, you will see the pie theory in action. Ramsey gave gambling as a good example of the pie theory. If you and another person place bets, one of you will win money while the other will lose it.
There are zero-sum games and many of the ones involving money center around gambling. Options trading is another good example of the pie theory. The only way a trader profits is if someone else loses.
However, it doesn't apply to the economy, and the pie theory doesn't even apply to financial markets. Ramsey mentions that if Apple reports good earnings and gains value, it benefits all shareholders. It's not like one shareholder has to lose their slice of the pie for another shareholder to benefit.&nbsp;
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Hard Truth Behind Pie Theory Advocates</h2>
Reality is a bitter pill to swallow for some people, and Ramsey brings this up when talking about pie theory advocates. He views this cohort as perpetual whiners who prefer to complain instead of making meaningful changes in their lives.

Ramsey compared it to someone who blames fast food restaurants for making them fat. These restaurants exist, but people who become overweight by eating at those restaurants regularly choose to eat at those restaurants.
The real problem is the guy in the mirror. That's how Ramsey views people who prefer to blame wealthy people for their financial shortcomings.&nbsp;
Envy is also a driving force behind the pie theory, and Ramsey brings up a personal example that makes this point clear. He said no one was upset when he sold 10 copies of his book from the back of his car while he was starving. However, now that he has sold more than 10 million copies of his books, some people view him as the bad guy. All of a sudden, he's greedy.
Ramsey believes that some of this mentality stems from mixed-up theology. Many people incorrectly pedal the message that the Bible says money is the root of all evil. However, Ramsey explains that the Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil. It's more about character than it is about money. In fact, money doesn't change people. When you hand people money, it reveals who they already are.
