The robots aren&#8217;t arriving — they&#8217;ve already started their shifts.
Tesla Inc.&#8217;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) Optimus is sorting 4680 battery cells in Fremont. Xiaomi&#8217;s CyberOne and Hyundai-owned Boston Dynamics&#8217; Atlas are patrolling factory floors in China and South Korea. And as humanoids transition from science fiction to supply chains, investors are posing an extremely 2025 question: how do we get exposure?

Last week, Benzinga highlighted <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs">two first-of-their-kind ETFs</a>, Roundhill&#8217;s Humanoid Robotics ETF (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HUMN#BATS">HUMN</a>) and KraneShares&#8217; Global Humanoid and Embodied Intelligence Index ETF&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KOID#NASDAQ">KOID</a>), both giving investors a front-row seat to what Morgan Stanley estimates could be a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs/new-etfs/25/06/46127921/big-bet-on-elons-optimus-first-humanoid-robot-etfs-target-5-trillion-empire">$5 trillion humanoid robotics market by 2050</a>.
But headlines only paint part of the picture. To get the inside track, we sat down with Dave Mazza, CEO of Roundhill Investments, who thinks that this isn&#8217;t some moonshot decades down the road, it&#8217;s a real, investible theme already bringing in revenue and returns.
Mazza identifies the market&#8217;s turning point as an uncommon intersection of three trends: Record labor shortages, crashing AI prices and Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) pricing.
This three-pronged dynamic, Mazza contends, has moved humanoid robotics from futurism to fiscal reality. 
&#8220;Three curves just converged: record labor shortages (over 450,000 U.S. warehouse roles are unfilled), AI inference costs down roughly 85% since 2023 and robots‑as‑a‑service pricing hovering around $30 per hour, which is competitive with overtime pay. When capability meets corporate math, that's when a theme turns investable,&#8221; he said.
Addressing the question of whether humanoid robots are still too pricey or impractical for scaled deployment, Mazza explained, &#8220;Early robots already compete with night‑shift labor, and each hardware generation cuts costs — mirroring cost curves in solar panels and EV batteries — so scale will make today's sticker shock fade.&#8221;
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Why HUMN Isn&#8217;t Just Another Index ETF</h1>
Roundhill&#8217;s HUMN ETF is not only one of the first U.S.-listed ETFs focused on humanoid robotics, it&#8217;s also actively managed, a decision Mazza maintains was non-negotiable.
&#8220;Frontier tech moves too fast for static indexes, when start‑ups list and incumbents spin out robotics units overnight. HUMN's portfolio is reviewed at least monthly, and we can trade more frequently when opportunities emerge,&#8221; said Mazza.
Contrast that with KOID, which adheres to an index approach: equal weighting holdings across the robotics supply chain. Although KOID offers widespread diversification, it doesn&#8217;t have the agility that HUMN is counting on to generate alpha.
And there&#8217;s history: Roundhill&#8217;s Generative AI &amp; Technology ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CHAT#NYSE">CHAT</a>), which is also actively managed, has beaten indexes and peers since its launch in May 2023.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">The Tesla Question</h1>
No humanoid discussion would be complete without Tesla. Elon Musk&#8217;s humanoid robot Optimus is already driving within Tesla factories, and the firm has pledged significant updates soon.
With Tesla being HUMN&#8217;s single-largest holding (now capped at approximately 13%), some investors may fear over-exposure to the volatile personality of Musk. But this is precisely why the fund is actively managed, according to Mazza.
&#8220;Tesla brings unique leverage: an in‑house AI stack, gigafactory‑scale manufacturing, and a captive reference customer. We cap its weight so a single tweet can't steer the entire fund,&#8221; Mazza noted.
Less hype than blueprints, perhaps, Tesla is planting the seeds of full-stack humanoid deployment — just like its vertical integration strategy for EVs. 
&#8220;If Optimus keeps learning on Tesla lines, the company controls both the robot and its first large customer, echoing its EV vertical‑integration playbook, so we believe Tesla has an inside track,&#8221; Mazza says.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">The Road Ahead</h1>
Though Morgan Stanley landed on 2050, Mazza puts that timeline into even greater relief.
"Adoption looks linear through the late‑2020s, then inflects in the mid‑2030s as fleets scale, exhibiting classic S‑curve dynamics."
That doesn't mean investors have to wait decades to see returns.
"Investors should treat HUMN as a long-term satellite holding with the potential for strong returns over shorter time periods," says Mazza.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Global Reach, Grounded Exposure</h1>
Most of the most sophisticated humanoid mockups — CyberOne, Atlas, Walker S from UBTech — aren&#8217;t publicly traded. So how does HUMN give exposure?
By being their owners, says Mazza.
Boston Dynamics&#8217; Atlas resides under Hyundai, a holding company of HUMN.
Xiaomi, frequently undercovered in U.S. media, is listed and part of HUMN&#8217;s portfolio.
HUMN takes a value-chain approach. &#8220;HUMN is deliberately global: U.S. silicon (Nvidia), Chinese humanoid builders (UBTech, XPeng), and Japanese precision‑gear makers (Harmonic Drive) create exposure across the entire value chain,&#8221; Mazza reasoned.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Last Thought: HUMN Now, Bot Empire Soon?</h1>
As individual investors, institutional allocators, and ETF issuers begin to wrap their minds around robots with brains and biceps, Roundhill&#8217;s HUMN ETF provides an early — maybe first-mover — edge.
And with labor gaps widening, AI hardware advancing and enterprise appetite growing, the bet on humanoids might just be the most human thing Wall Street has done in years.
"Large‑language models gave computers a brain," Mazza says. "humanoids add arms and legs, letting AI tighten bolts and physically interact instead of just answering prompts." Now it can go to work.

'Tesla Has The Robot And The Customer': Dave Mazza's HUMN ETF Makes A Calculated Bet On Optimus

In the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/25/04/44877995/netflix-crushes-q1-says-its-working-hard-to-improve-and-expand-its-offering">third and final season</a> of &#8220;Squid Game,&#8221; the masked elite known as the VIPs shed more than just their disguises — they echo the real-life personas of some of the world's most powerful men. 
What Happened: According to series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, Elon Musk and Donald Trump were among the unwitting muses for these ruthless puppet masters. 
The hit series, recently released on Netflix (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NFLX#NASDAQ">NFLX</a>), primarily follows 456 contestants. They compete for a cash prize through high-stakes, live-or-die games and contests. Each season has also featured the VIPs who watch the game and bet on the contestants.
Hwang admitted after completing filming season 1 that one of the VIPs unintentionally resembled Trump, as reported by Time. The same can be said for Musk, the world's richest person, who is similar to VIPs in season 3.
"Elon Musk is everywhere these days, right," Hwang told <a href="https://time.com/7298235/squid-game-vips-season-3/">Time</a>. "Everybody talks about him. Not only is he the head of a huge tech company that controls the world almost, but he's also this showman."
Hwang said he realized after writing the third season, "Oh, some of the VIPs do kind of resemble Elon Musk."
According to the interview, the first season VIPs were described to the actors who played them as "total idiots and "dirtbag millionaires."
While the VIPs were mostly behind the scenes previously, they take on a larger role in the third season, murdering players who have lost in various competition rounds.
"In the past, those that really controlled the system and maintained power, they were hidden behind the curtain, almost like this big unseen conspiracy. However, it's no longer the case, especially in America,&#8221; Hwang said, comparing the VIPs to the "so-called big tech owners" who tell everyone who they're backing with their money.
"The people who really control the power and the system, they no longer hide behind a curtain. They willingly take their masks off, almost as if to declare, ‘We're the ones running everything. We're the ones in control.'"
Hwang did not create the VIPs specifically to resemble Trump or Musk. Yet, the series creator noticed the parallels as he reflected on inspirations for the plot: the 2008 financial crisis, wealth inequality, the rise of tech giants, the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol, and Trump himself becoming president.

Why It's Important: Musk, who has <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/education/25/06/46157568/happy-birthday-elon-musk-54-facts-and-figures-about-tesla-spacex-ceo-on-his-54th-birthday">appeared in several films</a> and TV shows, has inspired characters before. 
The Netflix movie "Don't Look Up" features a plot centered on a comet that is set to destroy Earth. Actor Mark Rylance, who portrays fictional billionaire and technology CEO Peter Isherwell in the film, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/22/02/25606180/elon-musk-was-inspiration-for-dont-look-up-character-in-netflix-movie">said he looked</a> at Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Musk for the basis of his portrayal.
"I looked at all those fellas. Maybe I should have gone down that more Californian, high-tech thing. But I went for something slightly different. I did read Elon Musk's book — about half of it," Rylance <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/mark-rylance-interview-elon-musk-activism-tailor-berlin-2022-the-outfit-1235089890/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">told </a>The Hollywood Reporter.
Rylance said Musk and other individuals have "high-minded ideas" and don't think they're bad people. The actor said this could make people like Musk dangerous.
Another Netflix movie, "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery," featured the character Miles Bron, a technology billionaire who has interests in space exploration and automotive — two sectors Musk had disrupted in real life. The film&#8217;s director, Rian Johnson, shared with <a href="https://www.wired.com/story/rian-johnson-glass-onion-q-and-a/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wired</a> that Musk might have <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/22/12/30206148/elon-musk-now-the-subject-of-a-fictional-movie-character-a-weird-relevance-in-exactly-the-c">inspired the character</a>, portrayed by Edward Norton.
Johnson says he wrote the screenplay during the COVID-19 pandemic, prior to Musk announcing plans to purchase Twitter. The movie director joked that he hadn't known about this ahead of time. But viewers drew parallels between the behavior of tech billionaires, both fictional and real.
"It's so weird. It's very bizarre. I hope there isn't some secret marketing department at Netflix that's funding this Twitter takeover," Johnson said.
Musk also partly inspired the portrayal of Tony Stark by Robert Downey Jr. and appeared in &#8220;Iron Man 2.&#8221;

Elon Musk, Donald Trump Inspired These 'Squid Game' Characters: 'The Ones Running Everything… The Ones In Control'

CAVA Group, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CAVA#NYSE">CAVA</a>) stock is down 2.68% over the past three months. Here&#8217;s what you need to know.
What To Know: In May, the company reported earnings for the first-quarter. Cava reported adjusted earnings per share of 22 cents, beating the consensus estimate of 14 cents. In addition, the company reported sales of $331.83 million, beating the consensus estimate of $326.88 million, and representing a 28.2% year-over-year climb.
The company reported same restaurant sales growth of 10.8% and traffic growth of 7.5%. Cava opened 15 new restaurants during the quarter, bringing its total to 382, an 18.3% year-over-year increase.
Cava also updated its fiscal-year guidance, now expecting 64 to 68 new restaurant openings and same-restaurant sales growth of 6% to 8%. Additionally, the company raised its pre-opening cost outlook to $14.5 million to $15.5 million, which may have weighed on the stock as it cuts into profit.
Following the earnings report, multiple analysts issued price target adjustments.

More recently, analysts from Stifel and JP Morgan announced price target changes.

This CorMedix Analyst Is No Longer Bullish; Here Are Top 3 Downgrades For Monday

Network-1 Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NTIP#NYSE">NTIP</a>) announced today that it has initiated patent litigation against Samsung Electronics Co., LTD and Samsung Electronics America, Inc. (collectively, "Samsung") in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas for infringement of U.S. Patent No. 11,233,780, U.S. Patent No. 11.916,893, U.S. Patent No. 12,207,094, U.S. Patent No. 12,166,869, U.S. Patent No.11,606,204, and U.S. Patent No. 11.973,864 (collectively, the "Patents-in-Suit").
The lawsuit alleges that Samsung infringes the Patents-in-Suit by supporting certain eSIM (embedded Subscriber Identification Module) and 5G technologies in its mobile devices, including its Galaxy smartphones, watches and tablets (the "Accused Products"). The Accused Products operate consistent with certain GSMA and ETSI industry standards.
The Patents-in-Suit are part of the M2M/IoT patent portfolio acquired by Network-1 in December 2017 (the "M2M/IoT Patent Portfolio"). The M2M/IoT Patent Portfolio relates to, among other things, enabling technology for authenticating and using eSIM technology in Internet of Things ("IoT"), Machine-to-Machine, and other mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets, watches, computers and automobiles. Patents in the M2M/IoT Patent Portfolio also relate to enabling technologies for 5G network authentication used in consumer and M2M devices (including smartphones), and the latest available Internet transport layer security solutions.
A study by the Trusted Connectivity Alliance (TCA) found that 2024 was a landmark year of growth across the global eSIM ecosystem during which the volume of eSIM device shipments surpassed 500 million units with eSIM profile downloads increasing by 56%.
Network-1's M2M/IoT Patent Portfolio includes forty-one (41) issued U.S. patents (and 6 pending applications), plus fifteen (15) issued non-U.S. patents. The patent terms of the MTM/IoT Patent Portfolio are currently expected to extend until 2033-2034. Network-1 has been developing the portfolio since its acquisition and anticipates further issuances of additional claims.
The M2M/IoT Patent Portfolio is available for licensing to firms that make use of the technologies covered by its patents, including eSIM and 5G technologies covered by the relevant GSMA and ETSI standards, as implemented in Internet of Things and M2M products as well as devices utilizing 5G.
